Well the good news is our voter participation woes are solved.  I predict voter turnout to be about 137% this year.   Hell we have received at least 5 ballots so far and I am pretty sure someone else received a couple more of our ballots.   Does present a concern though.  I am going to vote in person on election day.  Will they notify me that I have already sent in 3 or 4 ballots by mail then or will they allow me to vote and then prosecute me for voter fraud because I attempted to vote 5 times like they are already doing to some people here in Georgia?
Oh y'all worried now ain't ya?

I agree with a lot, and disagree with some, of what you're posting.

However - this isn't the time in our culture to try to make sense of it without setting off a lot of people.

As long as races, genders, etc, are oppressed - intentionally using words that suggest that they're not part of mainstream culture will - quelle surprise! - make them angry.

kcar and others interested in the racism, sectarianism, etc., debates.

To add from personal experience.

Five years of travelling through South America and Africa allowed me to observe folks mistreating others.   Often.   It allowed me to be on the listening end of mouthy racists.  It allowed me to hang with folks who had been the victims of other folks' big boot heels.

I have also been on the listening end of all kinds of mouthy racists in North America, in particular Canada.   On occasion, I have wondered if my looks were driving the conversation:  196cm.  Blue eyes.

Due to my looks, I have been on the receiving end of negative vibes from some BC First Nations and other non-whites.  Oddly enough, I never experienced those kinds of negative reactions from Chicanos, wetbacks and Black Africans in the USA.   Everybody was really friendly.  Well, a couple of wetbacks were super nervous but that is understandable.  <<No hay problema.  Yo mismo soy nevado.>>   which was meant to be "Snowback".  Some Chicano farm workers thought the joke was hilarious but the wetbacks never got over their fear. -hehe-

Folks in Quebec used to wonder if I was American.   I was outspoken in excellent quebecois French in ways that surprised them I guess.  As if...  You cannot really be English Canadian, can you?   What they were really thinking is:  You cannot really be a narrow-minded, obnoxious Square Head, maudit bloke, can you?

I never personally met Pierre Vallières.  He wrote the White Niggers of America.  But I collaborated closely with his fellow Christian commune members based in Montreal in the 1980s peace and disarmament movement.   The fact that I also worked closely with one of the fathers of the Silent Revolution who went on to be one of the most radical Independentistes in Rene Levesque's Parti quebecois government probably helped with my street cred.

Quebec's nationalist movement always makes me feel torn.  On the one hand, as an English Canadian, I am very proud of how our political leaders slowly, patiently and peacefully co-opted quebecois nationalism.  On the other hand, if I had been born a pure laine quebecois, I would have  consistently supported Sovereignty-Association.

A few decades ago, a few English Canadians have called me or asked if I was a traitor because my French was so good.  Some of these folks had university degrees....  Good Lord....

So kcar.   Once again, Black Americans who relish their past of enslavement and second class citizen status, and insist the word 'nigger' is for their exclusive use can go pound.....   no, no.  No, they can go back to their communities and continue to hurt their own if that is what makes them feel happy.

Somewhere, somehow, well-meaning, guilty-feeling white North Americans should purge themselves of the prejudice of lower expectations.   For the benefit of the people they pretend to care about.

How does someone feel good about themselves? By feeling superior to someone else, in many cases. They express that superiority by passing judgement, especially if they can do so unchecked.

So, the world is full of people who actively look for ways to get incensed and be critical about just about anything you do. Frankly, that means they have way too much time on their hands in most cases.

westslope, a friendly word of advice: do NOT use the N-word. That will land you in a world of trouble and quite possibly pain if you use that in the US. (I’m assuming you’re not Black).

The best explanation I’ve heard as to why it’s OK for Black people use that word while it’s not for White people goes something like this: the word was used to denigrate and dehumanize Black people for centuries. Black people use the word to playfully insult other Black people but also to take the sting out of it.

This may strike you as illogical or discriminatory but it’s still a fighting word in the US and could get you charged with a hate crime in certain situations. And I can guarantee you that if those rappers you mention could talk directly to you, they would tell they most certainly did not give you permission.

I’m also pretty sure Bill will give you a time out if you use it in this forum.

I suppose Black Americans or African Americans or People of Colour (yuck) can claim the right to slap around those bitches but if an old smelly white dude were to say or do the same, all hell would break out.

Frankly, I view identity politics, political correctness, shallow materialism and deep seated celebrity narcissism to be all connected social disorders.

Black Americans are obese and generally exhibit horrible health outcomes.....  oops, cannot talk about that.  Violence against First Nation women committed by First Nation men?   We cannot talk about that.  Black looters hurting businesses owned by black folks and other non-white small business people:  no, we cannot talk about that.

When does "we cannot say that or talk about that" turn into or become complete and utter indifference?  Does it mean:  Please!  Please! Keep battering your girlfriend, wife and / or your kids. You don't need permission. I'm cool.

This reminds me of the Aymara in Bolivia, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.    The Aymara are still fighting Spanish colonialism from over half a millennia ago.   It shows.

Incidentally, rap is rather popular with First Nations here in Canada.  Figures, eh?

Here's the bright side kcar:

Bolivia will continue to be a fascinating destination for tourists for decades or more to come.   Highly recommended.

Many Black African inner-city neighbourhoods could also be fascinating destinations for tourists in the future, generating foreign income for the USA, except the high levels of crime and violence might get in the way.

Very few places you can get that, I did see one place that had them for 8 dollars a can.  Thinking about pulling the trigger.

For years I've bought denatured alcohol by the gallon - paint stores are often the cheapest - as a general-purpose cleaner and reasonably safe solvent. Buy a gallon or two (~$15/ea) and a couple spray bottles. You can doctor it to make glass cleaner, hand sanitizer, etc. etc.

Good article kcar.

Violence is always neighbourhood specific.  Most violence is intra-group.   Unfortunately we do not like talking about Blacks beating or killing Blacks, First Nations abusing, beating or killing First Nations, etc., etc.   We end up with public discussions that completely ignore the reality on the ground.   How often do rap artists chant on about niggers killing niggers?    (Thank you oh great macho rap artists for giving me permission to use that term.)

The one thing that is missing from the article are suicides by firearm and how they are geographically distributed.   In the category of suicide by firearm, the USA is "the greatest" and beats out everybody else.

Would be curious to see the geographical distribution of firearm suicides.  I have a few guesses but they are too half-baked to share.

On Friday, I heard about the most recent Gallup Poll that had Biden up by double digits nationally, but when the same respondents were asked who do they think will actually win, it was 60 / 40 Trump over Biden.

Yesterday on FBN, there was a statement made that the market is already factoring in a clear cut Biden win so overwhelming that any delays in counting mailed ballots wouldn't matter.

I no longer have anything that I can believe in when it comes to polling data.  Just along for the ride now and will vote in person come hell or high water on November 3rd.

I'm a gonna be buying extra TP  and paper towels again in the next couple of days before the (sh*t storm) run on this stuff begins again.  I still have a couple of cans of real Lysol spray that I bought last winter before all of this began.
