I was born in Alta Bates. I am sure that I rode my bike by your house a couple of times, too. I lived on Carmel Ave off of Solano, on Modoc between Solano and Marin and up on Cragmont by Shasta Rd. I took a spin around the map and saw that the Jr high I went to has been renamed from Garfield to MLK. Both my Dad and I went to that school and I'm pretty sure we both went to Thousand Oaks Elementary. My Dad went to HS with Billy Martin of the Yanks and actor Robert Culp.
Hope to get back one more time before I kick. Haven't been back since 74.
I had to hunt it down because it reminded me of a spot further north. I've driven by this place a couple of times but I assume you spent some time with the sharks...
Swami's in Encinitas. Never actually went out there. Stopped many a time looking at the break on the way down to SD, but never caught it working. Usually ended up down at Cardiff / Tamarack beach, a pretty reliable break.

That's a neighborhood I could live in. Residential but easy to get to stores and the freeway. All the bungalows look alike after a while but one across the street from there reminds me of a place I had Thanksgiving dinner one year. I know I walked my old dog, Rocket, in front of your grandparents' house... we used to hike all over around there.
It's on a really deep lot.
Down that driveway there's a garage/one bedroom rental unit. There's small basement under that building that was a wonderland for the grandkids. It was primarily wine storage, and was where Papa made red wine vinegar in a wood barrel. Behind the garage was his prolific garden. Ahh, such great memories.

Seemed like I remembered that place but it's long gone. I went e-driving around the neighborhood and everything's long gone. New pizza joints and apartments everywhere...
My grandparent's house is still standing. Alta Bates isn't going anywhere, which is a good thing. My sister has been a NICU nurse there for 25+ years.

Is that Anacapa Island from Santa Cruz Island with Catalina in the back?
That doesn't match with your hint. Dang it!
I think it's gotta be Anacapa, but with Santa Cruz in the back.
Good job!
My hint wasn't exactly correct. It really should have been "the larger east island". Anacapa really lies east/ west. Catalina is quite a bit southeast of these guys.
