Years ago I had read a biography of Phil Ochs called Death of a Rebel or something like that.  Apparently the last couple of years of his life he was profoundly depressed and often delusional, while also drinking heavily.  It's sad really - he was a very talented composer and performer.

Yes it is - Really brings back memories of my college and hippie days. It's a shame he off'd himself but I wonder if he would have been able to make the transition away from being mainly a protest singer. I remember hearing that not long before he hung himself he had gotten booed off stage at one of his concerts because he was still playing the same stuff after the war was over.
