Six witnesses can reportedly back up claims that the federal prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden lacked the full authority to prosecute the First Son outside of Delaware, contradicting testimony stating otherwise from Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Shapely testified that Weiss announced he was “not the deciding official” on whether charges were filed against Hunter Biden and that DC US Attorney Matthew Graves refused to allow charges to be brought against the First Son in his district. That, according to Shapely, meant that Biden would not be prosecuted for tax charges related to “foreign income from Burisma [Holdings] and a scheme to evade his income taxes through a partnership with a convicted felon” in 2014 and 2015.
This revelation contradicts Garland’s testimony, which stated that Weiss, a Trump administration appointee, was at liberty to criminally charge Hunter Biden in whatever jurisdiction he deemed appropriate.
“He is the supervisor of this investigation,” Garland said of Weiss, telling Republican Tennessee Sen. Bill Hagerty in April 2022, “we put the investigation in the hands of a Trump appointee from the previous administration, who is the US attorney for the district of Delaware, and … you have me as the attorney general, who is committed to the independence of the Justice Department from any influence from the White House in criminal matters,” the New York Post reported.
Either Delaware US Attorney David Weiss was lying to the IRS team investigating Hunter Biden, or Attorney General Merrick Garland lied to Congress.
Either way, Justice Department fumbling has already let Hunter escape justice for several years of tax crimes.
Which means the judge overseeing his potential plea deal must wait until Congress can get to the bottom of this mess.
According to whistleblower Gary Shapley, Weiss in January 2022 sought to indict Hunter on felony charges for 2014 tax evasion (and misdemeanor charges for 2015) on his windfall from Ukraine — but then told the team he couldn’t, because US Attorney for DC Matthew Graves (a President Biden appointee who had jurisdiction because that was Hunter’s legal residence in those years) wouldn’t go along.
So the statute of limitations expired, and so (in Shapley’s words) the Biden Justice Department “sanitized the most substantive criminal conduct” in Hunter’s case.
By the way, as for Weiss: News accounts routinely call him a “Trump appointee,” but he’d become acting US attorney under President Barack Obama; Trump merely went with the guy already in the job. He’s a Delaware insider, not a Trumpie.

I am not going to re-hash and debunk your old, tired claims. Again: Hunter's laptop was never going to be a major factor in the 2020 campaign. People were upset by Covid, deaths, an economy that had cratered, the lack of vaccines, etc.
What happened to Gym Jordan's investigation into Biden and family? That kinda faded away quietly. Burisma did too. Again: Biden as VP pushed for the removal of the Ukrainian AG because he wasn't working hard enough against corruption. Biden made that ultimatum with Obama's approval and the approval of other Western leaders. The Ukrainian investigation into Burisma at that point IIRC had already concluded.
I never believed that the Steele dossier was entirely factual. Steele himself presented it as a gathering of rumors and hearsay. IG Horowitz and others have shown it was not the basis into the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaigns dealing with Russians.

No. At least not direct regime change. The US hegemon must realize that some countries fall apart largely for reasons that are disconnected from US policy and that there is little that the US state can directly do to effective constructive regime change. That change must come from within.
In the case of Cuba, the US state can indirectly help by lifting all sanctions and restrictions and completely unleashing the flood gates of tourism, cultural exchanges, family visits, investment and trade. Within a decade or two, I would expect the Cuban communist party/regime to implode under its own weight.
In the case of Venezuela, the US hegemon should explicitly recognize that Venezuelans democratically chose this misery for themselves, maintain full relations and allow exceptionally talented and reasonably transparent and accountable world-class US-based multinational corporations to continue operating in Venezuela.
In the case of Venezuela, policy should have targeted helping Venezuelan political and economic refugees in neighbouring Latin American countries, and publicly lamenting the humanitarian disaster caused by the Chavistas.

Everyone knows that advisor salaries don't rise to that level. Are you going to make the case that that amount ($172 million and $640 million) was not at all impacted based on trading on the influence of the positions that they held?
