Kurt...in case you missed it... the first hearings happened yesterday...  It's hard to find anything on Right-wing media, so here's a quick summary:

The Republican-selected witnesses all stated, "I haven't seen any evidence that would support impeachment".

But don't worry...the government is going to shut down while Republicans focus on the important things... like reading between the lines of Hunter's emails.

I had an astute adjunct who worked as an auto exec for decades comment, you get the unions you deserve.
I have found most private unions can be effective counterparties to an employer.  On the other hand, public unions often are dysfunctional.

Yeah, that bothered me. I should think that he is above that stuff, like how the Queen stayed out of things.
OTOH, Trump was clearly “screw the workers” so I can see how being on their side - for the sake of votes - is a slam dunk.

The only name that could possibly get a Dem nomination at this point is Gavin Newsom.  He says he's not running but keeps doing things to keep him in the news.  He has become an incredibly good politician and would run circles around anyone running on either side right now.

The first state filing deadline for the primary ballot is mid-October I think.  From there...it gets harder and harder to get votes.

If I were Joe, I'd find a way to dump Kamala and pull him onto the ticket.  He could help eliminate the "old man Joe" noise.

Congratulations, you have just outed yourself as a racist for even thinking of replacing Harris with Newsome, in the eyes of the party you have laid down with.  The party that puts everything into what you are (identity politics), dismissing who you are.  Merit no longer matters. You want to take a black woman, the current VP off the ticket and replace her with a white man ?  You just can't do that.*

*(Edit: We have reached the point where the water in the pot is boiling and the frog can no longer get out in order to save itself. Thank you, Hillary.  She did warn us, if anyone remembers ... )

And besides, you want to turn this country into San Francisco ?  Remember that before Newsome was governor of California, he was Mayor of SF and is responsible for what that once beautiful city has become and is turning the whole state into.

So how does it feel to be an official racist© in the eyes of the party you embrace ?

Oh and in case most of you missed it, Newsome has agreed to a debate with DeSantis that will be hosted by Hannity at or around Nov 30, IIRC.  You'll have to watch Fox to see it, live anyway.

At this point in time? So close to November '24? No.

I takes YEARS to build a presidential campaign. Long before candidates make themselves known to the public, they are wooing Big Money donors and political powers.  Occasionally you'll get someone like Trump or Obama who appears to rise up due to a grassroots groundswell, but even the dark horses needed backing from big players to break through.

I've read a lot of carping about Biden. Apparently everyone has forgotten that the public experiences an emotional fatigue with the sitting President about this time during his first term. It happened to Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. It happened less so with GW Bush because of 9/11 and the early belief that the invasion of Iraq was justified. GHW Bush had a 90% approval rating at the end of the Gulf War in March '91 but lost the election to Clinton because he had no domestic agenda to shake voters out of their emotional fatigue with him.

Trump may have escaped that fatigue because he was so polarizing. His supporters felt (and feel, I suspect) that an attack on Trump is an attack on them and they're not willing to disengage from him.

I invite others here to come up with serious alternatives to Biden. It won't matter at this point because the race is already largely down to two guys but what the hey. Trump's ignorance about Covid, pandemics and preventive measures was so great that he himself got Covid and very nearly died of it.

As for illegal immigrants and illegal drugs, these were problems during Trump's term as well. It's doubtful that Trump or his federal government would have a better handle on them at this time.

Finally: Trump is very likely going to go to jail over the withheld government documents. Sure, we could debate all day about January 6 and whether Trump was merely exercising his First Amendment rights, but the documents case is pretty slam dunk. He had no reason or right to hold onto those documents once he left office. He was asked politely and repeatedly for the return of them. Had he done so, he would not have gotten into trouble.

Instead, he lied about having returned all the documents and tried to hide a number of them. He made no real effort to secure them properly. He has repeatedly tried to tamper with witnesses about the documents. He tried to suborn his lawyer to commit perjury about the matter.

The whole documents story and the legal case surrounding it demonstrate quite clearly that Trump has a remarkably poor ability to assess risk and the consequences of blatantly violating federal law, even when he's received explicit advice on how to avoid those legal consequences.

Let's stop pretending that Joe Biden is senile. You should be far more worried about Trump, Kurt. All the indictments he's facing are because of his own stupidity and poor judgment. The documents case is just the easiest for you to understand.

He and other democrats have made their cities and states Sanctuaries.  Now they are all bitching when people take them up on their offer and show up.

Haven't all you open border people been saying that they will contribute to this country and not cost us anything ?

And Joe, worthless, sleepy, crooked Joe, doing nothing other than putting Kamala in charge of the border and now making Kamala the GUN CZAR to stop gun violence in this country.
