Harper pretty much developed the blueprint for supressing science and crippling government agencies so they can't do their jobs of protecting anything but business, that was then applied by trump and other right-wing governments, like Australia's. I'm not sure my opinion of him could be any lower.

A neighbour is a fan of both Donald J. Trump and former Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper. He goes on and on about current prime minister Justin Trudeau and his family.

Did you know that Margaret Trudeau who is Justin Trudeau's mother would fuck the door man in order to get into a night club? True fact that.

Did you know that Pierre Eliot Trudeau is impotent?   (All his former lovers are unanimous in this conclusion.)

Did you know that Pierre Trudeau and his wife Margaret would travel to Cuba to participate in orgies with Fidel Castro? True fact that.

Did you know that Fidel Castro is Justin Trudeau's father? Clearly that is the case because they look like each other.

I worked at a fly fishing lodge in the Lakes Region of southern Chile a few years after the military coup. The hard-right, pro-military coup owner described Fidel Castro in colourful slang as somebody who was impotent.

(If you see any contradictions in the above, you need to 'believe' and get with the program.)

I dislike this personal shaming because it avoids policy issues and is fundamentally anti-democratic in nature but I finally figured why I really, viscerally dislike this.  Bullies uses this kind of rhetoric to harass people in day to day life.

So what were folks saying about Joe Biden's stutter?   Or his son's business dealings?

I'm hitting the rack so I'll just toss this out for consideration.

$600 can now ruin your life.

Tax courts are extraconstitutional, in that you are presumed guilty and must prove your innocence.  Constitutional rights do not apply.

What could go wrong ... ?  Why nothing of course, as long as you ...

To me, its a dot, a really big dot ... ymmv

This IRS proposal doesnt sound so hot.

A White House or Congress can propose all manner of controversial policies, as is occurring now, but state lawmakers can fight back in a number of ways. Such resistance is now underway in the Maine Legislature, with lawmakers in other states likely to follow suit.

A resolution introduced in the Maine House of Representatives today, September 22, urges U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R), Angus King (I), and the rest of the Maine congressional delegation to oppose President Joe Biden’s proposal to empower the IRS to monitor aggregate transactions going into and out of personal and business bank accounts whose value or total transactions exceed $600 in value, which ensnares the majority of active bank accounts. As the new state resolution filed by Maine Representative John Andrews points out, “President Joe Biden wants the IRS to have automatic access to information about every Americans' bank account as well as every PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp account, even if without any accusations of wrongdoing.”

Been waiting for someone to bring this up.  Cannot get much more Big Brother than this.

Pay Pal, Ebay, Etsy and Amazon will already be passing out 1099 - K's in 2022 if your accounts total more than $600 gross in income for the year.  You are either gonna eat the tax on that or have to do Schedule C, P & L statements.  And this is just for selling your used personal items for example.  Forget about a T - shirt business and things were you make some actual money like jewelry making and simple retailing of anything.  The old standard was $20,000 or 200 transaction per year, whichever was greater.  The current bank transaction threshold for a report is $10,000 or more in cash.  I remember when that was implemented.  We are pretty near the bottom of that slippery slope everyone says is not to be taken seriously.

But this is what everyone voted for when they voted for Joe.

This is probably the best take on the whole thing. It's not like he claimed a $24,000 a year salary.

Somehow people think it is wrong to use legal means to reduce your taxes, even if you recognise those loopholes are bad policy that should be changed. Lets see the republicans get behind reform to prevent this if they don't like it benefitting Biden.

The Mendacity of Joe Biden
So it has been incredibly painful to witness the treatment of the Haitians, and it has been impossible not to recoil in disgust or burn with outrage. And to think, “This is happening on Joe Biden’s watch.”

When it was reported that then-President Trump called Haiti a shithole country, Biden responded on Twitter saying:

“It’s not how a president should speak. It’s not how a president should behave. Most of all, it’s not what a president should believe. We’re better than this.”

But deporting these Haitians is worse, not better. The Biden administration — and Democrats in general — always seem to say the right things on racial issues, but too often their deeds come up short when measured against their talk.

As a justification for many of the deportations, the Biden administration invoked Title 42, which is a law that allows deportations based on supposed “health risks.” The Associated Press pointed out, “The Trump administration invoked it in March 2020 to sweeping effect, prohibiting entry by virtually anyone from Mexico and Canada and essentially sealing the northern and southern borders.” Isn’t that ironic.

What’s more, these particular migrants were being deported to a country many haven’t been to in years. Many of them didn’t leave Haiti in 2021; they left it years ago. And they were being deported into danger. Haiti has recently been devastated by an earthquake, flooding from a hurricane, and the assassination of the president.

The administration’s own special envoy to Haiti resigned Thursday, refusing to be part of the administration’s “inhumane” expulsions regime, citing the fact that Haiti is so dangerous right now that even “American officials are confined to secure compounds because of the danger posed by armed gangs to daily life.”
