They haven't found intact DNA. They have options, and could probably produce near-neighbor hybrid like the beefalo that look for all the world like bison but are typically 5/8 domestic cattle. Trivia: all bison in North America (including Yellowstone and Wood Bison in Canada) show some domestic cattle DNA.
Would most coyotes in North America show some domestic dog?
I'm still waiting for someone to clone a wooly mammoth from the cells found in intact frozen carcasses.

Ooops, you're very right. I was thinking more figuratively. Was just sharing a thought that popped up based on current events. They have found honey in Egyptian tombs that is still very edible.
They've also found viable seeds from 2000 years ago. TIL that the stories I was familiar with of viable seeds being found in Egyptian tombs, lentils especially, are hoaxes from the late 1800s "egyptmania." They did find seeds, but none germinated. Lentils and other beans were sold as having come from the pyramids, or were beans harvested from plants grown from those.

ah, see...i'm sorry. i should have figured that out, went over my head... and wow! that's incredible! can you imagine trying it? would be super interesting.
No worries.
Yeah, it would be outer worldly to try some of that honey. Much better than drinking 100,000 year old melted ice, but that would be interesting, too.

I've been very into bees the last couple of years. They are super cool. Looking forward to getting a hive or two in a couple more years.
We get local honey when we are down south. It's barely filtered and really good. It's weird though, when we bring it back north it crystalized right away. You can warm it up and it goes right back to being liquid. I've re-filtered and it stays liquid better, but you lose some in the process.
they really are super cool.
you can say that again. oh, wait. you did!
i just read that honey does not. i found that kind of interesting.
