To have an occasion to use my mother’s china, silver and various serving dishes. Don’t get much call for a “lemon dish” and “lemon fork” ’round these parts!
Today I am grateful for the many people who have helped shape my taste in and appreciation for music, starting with my mother and my brother, and including Victoria Jo, Jennie, Liam, Bob, BGC, and BillG and Rebecca.

Yet another quick getaway weekend to clear the brain.
Last weekend, took a quick trip to Napa to kayak the Napa river, pull up to the shore and get out for some tacos and beer, then back home. Tomorrow, a long weekend in Seattle just for grins.
A couple of weeks later, my first time at French Laundry, to celebrate my 60th.

For all the friends I've made through RP. Too many to name, but today in particular I am grateful for JustineFromWyoming.
In addition I am grateful for the "windshield cover" (AKA a plastic sheet with only one magnet still attached) that Daddy gave me so many years ago. I'm grateful for the idea of putting old socks on my rear view mirrors. Yes, it was very frosty this morning, why do you ask?
What makes me smile: the image of Antigone's car in the lot with socks on the mirrors looking like a large basset hound.

I am grateful that as a student in elementary and high schools, I grew so quickly, was so uncoordinated and geeky that there was zero chance of me making the football or hockey team. I was a horrible basketball player.
Today, I can hike mountains, wade rivers , canoe and do all kinds of things. The star jocks from high school and university are rarely so lucky dealing with bad shoulders, arms, backs, useless knees, serious weight issues, etc.
As it turned out, there was a nice silver lining to being a 196 cm tall nerd. Did not understand that until I got into my twenties and started meeting all the wounded jock warriors.
Todd Snider totally delivered last night. What an awesome show. He did all my favorites and a few new ones too. I love the small venue I saw him at. Was perfect for Todd's style. My only disappointment was the guy that opened for him, Reed Foehl. While I could appreciate his talent and his voice for sure, he was a depress fest. He needs to up the meds or something. Set list for Todd as follows to the best of my recollection:
Just Like Old Times Ballad of the Devil's Backbone Tavern Can't Complain Alright Guy Easy Money Double Wide Blues Conservative Christian Right Wing Republican Straight White American Males Beerrun Mr. Bo Jangels Tension
And lotsa tall tales and stories. Great show, I will definitely be doing it again. Best 40 bucks I've spent in a long time.
He did "Double Wide Blues". Of course. It's a great one. Glad you had a great time. Thanks for posting!
I love it when the opening act is awesome, but lately I'm fine with them being something I don't care about. I can get there late, hang out in the bar and talk then rally for the headliner.

This weekend, an old friend visiting said, "You know - school typically starts the day after Labor Day in Louisiana where we went to school. And you and I met in fourth grade in Ms. Tornabene's class. So that means that as of this Tuesday, it will be the fifty-year anniversary of our friendship..."
Woah. So proud to have had him as my brother-by-choice for all these years. We've seen many many highs and lows together. Grade school, scout camp, girlfriends, college, kids - and now we look at each other and say "retire? I'm finally getting good at this!" Although we learned that we absolutely cannot stand to be around each other for more than a week in a row; we're so different. Still. Wow.
