Yup.  I have often thought the same about some groups of people.   Give 'em weapons and lock them in a room where they can only hurt each other.

Our neighbour who drives truck for the (highly subsidized) film industry in Greater Vancouver has bought two houses in town.  He visits on weekends.  I suspect that he believes he can flip properties here for a quick profit.   Could be disappointed as the Bank of Canada is talking about reducing quantitative easing so ultimately borrowing costs could go and that will inevitably deflate the red-hot Canadian real estate market.

This neighbour says that he does not trust the government.  Odd.  For one the "government" has basically passed the pandemic mandate off to the health professionals.  For two, this is the same guy who according to his own words had diabetes a bunch of years ago and then upon the recommendation of a medical doctor, changed his diet and cured his diabetes.

My question.  Why was this person listening to his doctor a few years ago but now refuses to listen to the medical profession?

So what to do about the anti-vaxxers?   Our area is full of them.   Virtually all of them are of low/modest socio-economic backgrounds.

Nothing?  Let them get sick and either immune or dead or suffer morbidity?  Let this run like a Donald J. Trump/Jair Bolsonaro experiment in how many of your own citizens will die from neglect and false/misleading information?

True all this.  But the internet can also be a wonderful source of information for those willing to take the time and effort to critically read.

Honestly, I have no idea.  But I will be watching the Israeli experiment to see how that unfolds.   The Swedish experiment did not go so well, did it now?

Sounds reasonable to me.   We consider ourselves to have received 2 doses of vaccine.  The first one came "naturally".

The crowds are back at Israel’s stores and restaurants

Yarden Danan just bought a new pair of Air Jordans at the Cinema City Rishon LeZion enclosed mall. The 24-year-old has been to the mall eight to 10 times since Israel’s last lockdown ended on Feb. 21. She now feels safe enough to go to concerts, bars and restaurants, too. And at HaKirya Arena in the port city of Ashdod, Danan’s games — she’s shooting guard for professional women’s basketball team Maccabi Bnot Ashdod and a veteran of Israel’s national team — once again are drawing hundreds of fans.

Thanks to Israel’s rapid progress with COVID-19 vaccinations, life is getting back to normal for Danan. “Lines in the stores are insane,” she said. “You’ll hear people say that people don’t have money because the coronavirus was so bad, but I can see everyone was in line at stores like Zara, Foot Locker and Nike. People want to go and spend money. They can shop safely now, so they’re going out.”

The Israeli government rescinded its nationwide mask mandate on April 18. Eran Segal of Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science underscores the reason: Since Israel’s mid-January peak of COVID-19 infections, it has recorded 98 percent fewer cases, 93 percent fewer critically ill patients and 87 percent fewer deaths. According to Segal, about 85 percent of Israelis 16 or older have been vaccinated or previously were infected with the virus; in the latter case, that means they’re more likely to have protective antibodies. “Life is close to pre-COVID,” the scientist tweeted.

Yes, I believe so.   He probably went through the official system but decided to go public when Interior Health officials were not taking him seriously.

Two comments.

There is a long history of folks of European origin going out of their way, risking careers and lives, to defend western hemisphere Aboriginals.  The Red Fascists here in BC may not like to hear that; they can go screw themselves.

The British Columbia provincial government has a long tradition of 'managing information'.   I, for one, have very mixed feelings about this.  So I can readily understand why some individuals would want to break ranks.

The above source truth11.com looks shaky but the content of this item corresponds to what I have read in other more local media.   Lytton is about an hour drive from where we live.

I learned about this controversy from a hospice nurse who works in our village.  She is an anti-vaxxer.

I suspect that there is some nuanced truth here.

1.  Despite some horrible reactions, Nlaka'pamux community members should still get the vaccine.   (Colonial name:  Thompson River Indians, part of the Interior Salish group).

2.   Health outcomes in interior BC rural communities consisting mostly of settler descendants and recent immigrants are awful.  Health outcomes of regional FN communities are just horrifically bad, i.e., worse.   I suspect that really bad health conditions make individuals far more susceptible to allergic reactions and negative outcomes from coronavirus vaccines.

It's worth reading World War Z by Max Brooks if you haven't. He takes a zombie menace (actually a rabies variant that destroys the brain and makes humans super aggressive) and filters it through the various countries' approach to threat.
China ignores it and lies about it, enhancing its spread.
USA breaks out weapons.
Israel is completely prepared.

The movie is horrible, so ignore it. But the audiobook is fantastically entertaining.

I would have expected resistance and opposition to social distancing rules and vaccines from some,  Orthodox Jews for example, but maybe I have been mislead by headlines of reluctance to get vaccinated.
