Hi, I really hope that everything is going to be fine, please be careful. chasech5 wrote:Very glad to hear you both are safe. I too heard the words Paradise California, and my heart skipped a beat. Thanks for checking in, Bill. Still have family in Chico? What a nightmare for everyone there. Yes, we still have family in Chico. We were there yesterday visiting them & saw first-hand the chaos of the evacuation (as well as the smoke). They're all fine, and fully prepared to leave if they need to.

Looks like PG&E aka pigs, goats and elephants strikes again ... Faulty power transmission lines may be the igniter of this fire. Not the first time ... sadly ... :sigh: .

Thinking of the people of Butte Co as I listen to RP. Relieved to hear Rebecca and Bill are safe. My heart goes out to Paradise after such sudden and complete devastation. Stay strong.

Bill and Rebecca-
I was in shock when I heard about the fire! So relieved that you are both OK. My heart goes out for your town and friends that have lost everything.

So glad to see that Bill and Rebecca are ok, amid such devastation. Tuned in this morning (UK time) only to hear Kathleen Edwards "Goodnight California" which brought a tear to my eyes!

Spoke with my cousin in Sacto for about an hour and they basically cannot go outside. The sky there is orange. He went to school up there and is really concerned about a wind shift and the steep deep canyons lighting up like jet engines and heading east up in The Sierra. Nothing there and nothing to stop it. Could burn until the snow falls if it goes in that direction.
Very sad situation. We've heard from several friends who have lost everything, but all made it out OK. Many people are still missing. We suspect the fatality count will go up. The pictures and video are really hard to watch. Damn.

This is terrible, shocking news. The post on the homepage seems to indicate that B&R aren't living in Paradise at the moment, but I feel for all the other residents who have to rebuild their lives. I hope no lives were lost. The mental scarring after such a catastrophe is the real concern. We in Australia know all too well what it's like for a wildfire (bushfire) to threaten towns and livelihoods.
The town of Marysville, Victoria was almost completely destroyed in the 2009 'Black Saturday' fires; now it is a thriving tourist centre once more. So Paradise will get back on its feet again.

Glad to hear you are safe. I hope you don't suffer any loses. We are in SoCal. We were considering retiring in the North Central valley. These recent fires are very discouraging and quite frieghting.

When I heard about the fire I turned on Radio Paradise and was reassured that maybe things weren't as bad as reported. But learning that Bill and Rebecca don't live in Paradise anymore, maybe it is bad there. Glad at least that Bill and Rebecca are out of danger. The air where I live in the Bay area is bad won't get a sunset even.
