Welcome back, my friends
To the show that never ends.
We're so glad you could attend!
Come inside! Come inside!

There behind a glass
Stands a real blade of grass
Be careful as you pass.
Move along! Move along!

Come inside, the show's about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you'll get your money's worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell, or Earth
(Chorus)
You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo.
You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll

Right before your eyes,
We'll pull laughter from the skies
And he laughs until he cries,
Then he dies, then he dies

(repeat Chorus)

(Extended instrumental, mostly keyboard)

Soon the Gypsy Queen
In a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!
Next upon the stand
Will you please extend a hand
To Alexander's Ragtime Band
Dixieland, Dixieland

Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Performing on a stool
We've a sight to make you drool
Seven virgins and a mule
Keep it cool. Keep it cool.
We would like it to be known
The exhibits that were shown
Were exclusively our own,
All our own. All our own.

Come and see the show!
Come and see the show!
Come and see the show!
See the show!

See the shoooowwwwwww!

Yuppers.  I would never buy an ELP album but I sure am happy to hear them here on RP.
Their Greatest Hits album is well worth it if you're not into their lesser known stuff.

Being a lover of classical based rock and roll, I just dig some of ELP's material.  Three of the most talented musicians ever.  If you ever get a chance to see Carl Palmer play percussion live it will blow your mind.  ASIA has been around lately so there is a golden opportunity.

I guess that's why I enjoy hearing them now and then here on RP.

Some music is timeless some music has to be time framed.  I like listening to ELP stuff.  I just reset my brain and crank it.

This album has some interesting facts.  Their previous material was to complex to repro live so they did this album to perform live.

Emmerson ran his voice through a ring modulator on this tune to achieve the desired affect.

Don't you mean Greg Lake ran his voice thru.....?
Good mix.  I am wondering if you know "American Metaphysical Circus" by United States of America.  It would fit here very well.

A great bass player and pioneer of progressive rock…

And he does a nice guitar solo on this.

Thanks for a fascinating Wikipedia link. Today I've learnt something.

But SOOOOO progressive at the time {#Stupid}
I gave it a 9 for nostalgia. But actually, it is also a wonderful piece of music.

Hearing it again now for the first time after - well, it must be coming up to 40 years - not only do I remember it well, I think I appreciate it more than I ever did at the time.
SOOOOOOOOOO DATED!!!!!!!!
This is busy...very busy. It's STRESS!! 3.
cool music by extreme artists  (Geiger's models had strikingly pronounced cheek bones  : )

Funny you should mention Toccata - I was in music school at the time and one of my profs asked me what I was listening to in my spare time. I played him Toccata and he was honestly impressed.

RIP to Keith Emerson, and to Prof. B. Watson, who was also the first out gay adult I ever knew. Cool guy and a wonderful teacher.
Play whatever you want, whenever you want, Bill.  We'll deal.  LOL
RIP - one of my first times of kicking the traces and not following the herd... listened to ELP, Floyd and Jethro Tull even as they became 'unfashionable'.  Thank you Keith for your music.
why does someone have  to die before we revisit these great blasts from the past?  more diversity please.  great bodies of work being ignored so we can hear the same bowie and broken bells songs every day.  no song should need to be repeated more than once a week
LONG LIVE PROG and Keith Emerson
The man really was a synth/Moog innovator
Thanks Bill.  I might have to give Pictures at an Exhibition a spin this evening on the old turntable.

Oh and have a large scotch in Keith's honour.

Thanks for playing some ELP on this sad day.
R.I.P. Keith.

Is this THE FIRST PLAY EVER on RP? You couldn't get away from this song on 70s FM.

That is the essence of RP.  You don't come here to hear what got worn out otherwho.  I think the spot was a classy tribute, being that it's one of the exceptions that occur here rarely.
Another legend moves on.

RIP Emerson.

I clearly remember the time I heard Toccata from this album as a high school student, and the scales fell from my eyes.

Saw him repeatedly, and always hoped to play with as much passion and technique as he could. Others were pretenders, but he was indisputably the greatest Prog Rock keyboardist ever.
Perfect requiem. Rest in peace, Keith.
Just heard about Kieth Emerson.  Sad day.....
Bill, thanks for playing.
RIP.

Prog goes on.
