Faith, the diamond in the chain
Still I was a slave, waiting to be saved
Dream, the body sleeps but I
Am not too proud to roam
On the back streets
It's oh, so simple when you know
You'll know this when it's time to go

Stray, and soon you'll leave behind
The loneliness you've sown, paradise leans
Scream, the body leaves the bone
To sit upon the throne
The battle waged for light

Dream, dream your sins away
Sin your dreams away
You're holding back, stop holding back
Unchain!

Say you'll love me tonight
Save your love for me tonight
And I feel you now
Lie awake and love drunk
I feel you now

Heavenly daemons outside my window
Sent here to see me outside this world
I call the shadow, you call the season
And that's solitary

Woaa! Sometimes I wished I would live in the US. So cool bands touring!

One of Cincy's best exports besides beer!

Saw them live in Portland several months ago -- they absolutely rocked -- very tight playing & performance. Yes -- though they brought it on themselves to a large degree -- are  very underrated.
Starts out like the Ronettes intro to "Be My Baby".
The night we met I knew I needed you so
Both great songs
Nice work on the maracas, That’s about it.

Love this song! Glad to hear some Greg Dulli magic on RP. Could you also play some of their older tunes? Especially ones from Gentlemen and Black Love.

yes, please!

I don't remember exactly what year that was (2014 - 2017). It was at the Haldern Pop Festival in Germany. The final two bands on Saturday's main stage were first The Afghan Whigs and then finally Wilco. The Afghan Whigs played a bombast rock during their performance that blew everything away. Wilco then had a difficult time as their performance was a bit quieter. Hundreds of people left the stage area during what I thought was a very good Wilco performance. I couldn't/won't understand that. But I stood near the stage at Wilco and enjoyed the concert. All in all it wasn't a good idea for the organizers to let Wilco play after the Afghan Whigs. But I saw two really good performances. The Afghan Whigs were also playing this song now.

that's awesome! i have been a HUGE whigs fan since late 80's, and i've seen them perform all over the US...so much fun to see them perform on stage. i love all the covers they do, all their oldies and i also enjoy this "newer" tune. long live Dulli!

Oh Bill...

Most seamless segue ever!!! Diafana Krina to this. Actually had to look to see if really had changed
We need a score button for the RP Mastery level as well...
The video for this song is cool and weird and disturbing.

Valid point! I would like to know, too!

My 02p is that it's castanets.  The sound here doesn't have the decay of a vibraslap.
I love it its unbelievable.
Castanettes are the new cowbell  !!!

Totally the Ronettes!

Or is it a Vibraslap? Maybe the wooden spoon contraption that has a leather strap hinging the two pieces together. Just curious to know. Not trolling here
"It's oh so simple when you know, you'll know this when it's time to go."
Kind of funny the band Algiers released their debut a year later, I wonder...
Easy 8 here, peace
Quite old school U2 ego at show here!

You mean "Second Place Winner" Barry Gibb.

Rock Era Falsetto GOAT is Frankie Valli "Big Girls Don't Cry"

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Mr. Gibb is third. Prince is second.
Nice little set of  falsetto contenders.

Coldplay - "Warning Sign".   Radiohead - "Lotus Flower".   The Afghan Whigs - "Algiers".

And the winner is...?

Barry Gibb.
what a sublime song it is!

I really like this smoldering piece pop music
Wonderful thxRP
Nice commentary Bill having this following "if you can tolerate this your children will be next" (will be next, will be next).
Classic of that era! Top class and well done!
molto bella
Early 90’s band makes good in the Teens! They really have hit their stride in the last decade. Loving rediscovering these guys. Thanks Bill!

7 -> 8

This continues to improve with more listening.
Nice arrangement, mellow, yet simultaneously tense - I really like this.
this song is cool.
That was one heck of a smooth transition from Diafana Krina's Kousko. Nice :)
For some reason I always envision this singer as being Charlie Day

Funny! Though to complete the analogy, wouldn't this Whig iteration need to produce a song called "Kabul?"

I always think it's the theme song for 1st season True Detectives and get disappointed too ,  that wasn't those Jesus guys was it?
Had to look , it was the Handsome Family
I love this song
I HATE that - every time the tune begins I think (and hope) it is Jesus & Mary Chain instead....
Great stuff - I thought it might be Calexico from the first few bars. I know very little of their stuff, time to find some more methinks.

i'm with you. they're my favorite, actually. seen them live a lot. but the first time i heard this, the vocals threw me, hardly sounds like greg at all. but i'm so glad they're recording again.
Wait!! Stop! Rate! Gush! Give thanks and props. Tithe to follow. Rinse. Repeat.
Heard of Afghan Whigs but would have been hard pressed to name one of their songs.  But, this is most excellent.

Different sound from their heyday but still worthwhile.

My first (that I know of) Afghan Whigs song (though I'd heard OF them prior).
Pretty good stuff. Lots of complimentary layers.
Love this song more and more with each listen! Thanks for playing, Bill!

Didn't think of Neil 'til you mentioned him, but when Bill plays this right after "Lady Grinning Soul" I'm definitely reminded of Bowie.

Is this a new singer for Aghan Whigs? I don't remember their music sounding like this.

nope, it's still dulli.
That sampled Be My Baby intro gets me every time.
Bill, maybe play them back to back. We'll get Spectorized and Whigged.

And today we get both tracks in an hour.  I like both but Handsome Family wins hands down for me.
The singer's voice put me off at first, but by the end, I find the song has grown on me.
Nice! Love it! Fat, juicy guitar, rich, resonant vocals; nice bass and drums too!
What a brilliant piece of music!
Now that's what I'm talking about.  Sunday afternoon, everybody finally back from church and walmart, it's roughly 97 degrees celsius in the kitchen and rising, the chicken is frying and little brother just powered up the music. It's the only thing that calms him down. (In other words play some more like that please.)

Thanks Bill and RP for bring such schweeet music into my life.

The first few seconds sampled— almost stole — the opening of Be My Baby. Should Phil Spector get a cut?

Nah, man, I don't think so.  A drum pattern (especially one which has been used in hundreds of songs) is generally not protected by copyright law, neither is honoring the sounds of a recording technique.  It's a deliberate "nod" or an "homage" - besides Hal Blaine probably came up with that beat.  It's interesting that they even added the castanet sound.

check out their late 90's stuff off of an album called 1965.

and if you don't have Black Love or Gentleman and you like this band, you definitely should get those for sure.
This is nice   {#Clap}
Intriguing to recall that Dulli sang Lennon's parts in the Backbeat soundtrack.

Great tune.  Psyched for the album to come out, but unfortunately the show nearest to me (B-more's Otto Bar) is sold out.
Lovely. My girlfriend adores this band, and I adore my girlfriend {#Heartkiss}
