Am my father's child
Train that's bound for nowhere
Runnin' free and wild
I am my father's child

The world has passed me by
World has passed me by
See the comin' shadow
I aint got time to cry
The world has passed me by

The world has passed me, passed me by

I am already free
Am already free
Goin be like Christmas

Your post? Yes. Yes it is.
There's a word for this, self-indulgence.

I read Greg Allman's autobiography several years back and one of my favorite parts was the description of Derek Trucks as a skinny (barely) teenage kid playing in a Georgia roadhouse with The Allman Brothers. He couldn't stay in the bar between sets because he was too young, he had to go outside and throw a football around for something to do, but then he would come back inside and blow the house down.
read a similar story in the Allan Paul book about the Allman Brothers band, great story. his young hands were small so they had him playing a slide. book was quite interesting

I heard the intro and thought this was going to be "This Sky".  Interesting how the openings are so similar.
Every time I hear this song,  it's Daniel Lanois! But no... and Jeff Beck pays a visit in the middle, but no again The slide and the voice....I can't be the only one who gets that? And slide, is a magical instrument.

I would wager that you're among a small minority who share that opinion. As a guitar player, aren't you tired of hearing the same old pentatonic blues licks? I sure am. If you're never heard it, "Sahib Teri Bandi" by Derek Trucks is exquisite. His playing pushes the capabilities of the instrument well beyond the tried and true licks worn out by countless players.

I'll check that out, thank you. No slight to his playing, and maybe it is this particular context that I do not enjoy. I'll check out the 'Sahib' track and report back.

Agree. Originality is extremely hard to come by in music in the 2020s. When you can recognize a guitarist by their style/tone/whathaveyou they've risen above the crowd. I also like the way he adds Indian influences in sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways. He is a unique talent.

No question it's Derek, I'll give him that. But, am I the only guitarist who finds slide the most annoying style to listen too?

No, but you are probably in the minority.  I think it is like any guitar work - it usually sounds as good as the person playing it.  Have a listen to Johnny Winter on 'Captured Live!'...Highway 61 Revisited would be a good start.  :-)  By the way, I like Derek Trucks too - that guy can play.
Pretty sure that's a Clav, not a jawharp.

Remove the quakey guitar from the equation, and you have a half-decent outfit.
So sad.  Loved Kofi.

This strikes me as almost Malian or West African and not the blues! There is no Son House living here!
RIP Kofi

Not an entirely neutral observation, I think.

But I agree that the overall vehemence of responses to opinions has increased considerably, of late.
As for civil war & doom, I guess we'll just have to wait & see.

Agreed.  Maybe he has other songs but the way he plays always sounds the same.  Long and frustratingly repetitious.

I already gave it a 2 when it played last week .
Bill, are you daring me to go to 1??

The song says it. The point to me. Oh well.

Kind of tired of this song.  Interesting slide sound with its glissando, but he'd do well to listen to Duane and add a bit of oomph to his playing, IMHO.

The technique and ability are there, but he needs to grow a pair ~

This morning's playlist has been wonderful, which is no real surprise. Thanks!
This is a 10...easily...if you want a negative number for this you ain't got one lick of blues in your soul...seek redemption

How to start smiling no matter what's happening: Sing this lyric as loud as you can while driving down the highway in a convertible under the moon ...

Sounds like Harry Manx

Just like Daniel Lanois's song Oh Marie...smashing

For a minute there, I thought the needle was stuck on the record.  Pretty good picking, though.

This one is being played way too often, at least for my taste...

Edit: Everytime I hear this it get's more annoying... Down to one now...

Trucks's guitar reminds me of Michael Bloomfield's eastern tinged modality on Butterfield's East-West. Very cool.
Wonderfully hypnotic guitar playing.
There's a very similar live version that's available for download on Amazon from the "Roadsongs" album.  Highly recommended. {#Cool}

I dig how DT manages to blend nuances of Jimi, Robin T, Stevie Ray& Duane A, among others, into his passionate meanders of string
Ok...last song was Allman Brothers...now Derek Trucks...the next song will be from Derek and the Dominoes?
And when will these guys tour the Midwest? Geez...we are dying out here for some freakin RnR!!!

Perhaps you are referring to the level of your taste and not the present track, which it seems is actually magnifico-boffo.

Yes, yes, yes! LOVE this band and his sound in particular. I turned my RP player volume all the way up for this. And explained (but not did justify) my actions to a co-worker!
Damnit, his upcoming tour is nearly always just ahead or behind where I'm going to be for the next many months.

LOVE RP.  It is what I listen to all day at work.  The lack of repeated tunes and the genres played make it the best on the net.  IMO, you could still improve the site if you took every band played here and found one or two other songs not in the set lists and mixed them in.

I'd like to second this.
Hot Lawdy! If you know it, if you feel it, I can't add a thing!!!

{#Clap}  What a bad a$$ band!
This guy better learn to play that guitar. It's only a 9.
Just bought my tickets to see Tedeschi Trucks Band again this summer.  Looking forward to another great evening of powerful Soul, R&B and Rock-n-Roll.
Beautiful, and great segue from Harry Manx - Baby Please don't Go.

RP is costing me a fortune in CD's (who would want only a track?)

Oh hell yes.
Such a distinctive first few bars - a great song (though it had to be good to follow Hendrix 'Little Wing')
Great set DJ!!!  Love reading all the comments on Roger Miller while being treated to Canned Heat and Derek, uplifting!
Wow.
simply "wow".
Does this get played on the radio where any of y'all live?
Rock isn't dead but it's too hard to find (unless you listen to RP)

He doesn't breathe the same air as everyone else.... He's so brilliant.   Watching him play is like when I used to watch Bjorn Borg play tennis.... No real outward expression, just perfection and grace.
Very, very nice!
He may have learned his technique at the feet of the master, but his soul is so very much his own. Much like Hendrix and Duane, he never ceases to astonish.
