Lady sing the blues,
she's got them bad,
she feels so sad.
And wants the world to know,
just what her blues are all about,
Lady sings the blues,
She tells her side,
nothing to hide.
Now the world will know,
just what her blues is all about
The blues ain't nothin' like a pain in your heart,
when you get a bad start,
when you and your man have to part
I ain't gonna just sit around and cry,
i know i won't die,
'cause i love him
Lady sings the blues,
i'm tellin' you, she's got 'em bad,
but now the world will know,
she's never gonna sing them no more.
The blues ain't nothin' but a pain in your heart,
when you get a bad start,
when you and your man have to part
Ain't gonna just sit around and cry,

The halcyon days of jazz vocals. And then some.
Bkack Pumas to Billie how good is that
Not to brag, but Billie Holiday was my mother's godmother.
I'd love to go back in time to have seen this sung live in a smoky jazz club, sipping on an Old Fashioned and realizing I was in front of greatness and it probably wouldn't get much better than this.
She just wanted to be loved and cared for.
It's all in that fantastic voice..

I Agree. Completely! Thanx RP!
To me, that trumpet at the beginning is like a klaxon that indicates, "Really good music is coming up. Pay attention."
And by the way, it's right.
I Agree. Completely! Thanx RP!

THE Queen......
How did we go from this to "My Neck, My Back"?
SUPERB!! Thanx RP!
Great segue from Lucinda Williams "Essence" to Billie Holiday's "Lady Sings the Blues"
The only reason I give this just a 9 is because I gave 'Strange Fruit' the 10 it deserves earned.
Beautiful, legendary, epic, tragic.

Charlie Shaver's opening trumpet solo is like a flaming icicle through the heart.

Oh My! To me, the mark of an all time classic like this is when you've heard it before, but it captivates and enthralls you to hear it again. Hearing this just now was to have time and place just disappear and to be lost in the beauty of the song.

1st time hearing on RP. Why has it taken me so long. A Classic Indeed.
No one like her. A Unique representation of the human voice. Outstanding!
A fellow choir member once said "There are too many people singing with vibrato" and our director, an organ performance major, director, music educator, vocal coach, and instrumental instructor shut her down by saying "no, actually, vibrato helps you find the pitch!"

I think this would easily be a 10 without her singing.
