This album came out when I was caring for my Dad during his last few months on the planet.  He must have been about the same age as Patty's dad - I could identlfy so strongly with each line.  I listened to this album countless times during this amazing phase of life, and sang this song at his funeral.

Four years later, I wonder if you still think the fears were so "trumped up"? 
Love Patty, I also found her here on RP, Long Ride Home was my intro to her music. My half brother had just died tragically in a car accident at the age of 17. I still choke up whenever I hear that song.
This one is more, I don't know...hopeful? Uplifting? Still emotional.

I saw her in concert for the first time a couple of days ago at the Portland Zoo amphitheater and she was great!  She has a fantastic voice and a great band.  I highly recommend.

I think her father passed away in 2009, but no matter, you are spot on about the emotional impact. Her music has been ripping my heartstrings for years.
