If your loose and libel lips
Keep sinking all my ships
Then you're the one who sank my Lusitania
But some how it don't register as pain at all
Till it finds your crooked vein
It should help us not remember the Maine
You're laying mines along your shore
Through my hull it ripped and tore
We don't study this war no more

So we let our back bones slip
Till the arc spits from our fingertips
And we'll become a hazard in the rain
Oh and we'll get charged out in the rain
There's a sixty-cycle hum
Go ahead say something dumb
Boy there's no shame
There's no shame

Go ahead say something dumb boy
There's no shame

Andrew sure likes to whistle.....{#Whistle} while he works.
"Her" voice is nice.

Whistling at the start of a song is usually a warning of what's to come, and that's the case with this effort. I thought it would be Rolf Harris at first, and in truth I think I'd have preferred the bearded Antipodean to this Ho-Hum number. I think also that yer man Bird's being mildly tasteless in singing "You're my Lusitania" given what a tragedy the sinking was, though maybe he makes up for it in the rest of the lyrics - I'd muted before I could hear them. So, thanks to RP for the PSD button...

97 years is way too soon. Show some sensitivity Mr. Bird.

BTW, Lusitania = Portugal.

His music is full of high-brow references like that.  REM did that a lot in the 80s.   The question is Why they do this?  It certainly helps appeal to college students who might be taking courses in Western Civ or something similar.  I've always thought it was light-weight, apolitical fare.  I don't mind it at all.   I don't think anyone ever accused REM of starting a revolution.  Lyrics should be relevant, but they should not be taken seriously.  The human voice needs something to bellow out.  May as well be stuff like this rather than some stupid love ballad.

Not bad. Two point deduction for whistling.

Pretty bad for me and all points deducted for whistling....
I have yet to hear anything by this guy that is any good.  The only good thing in this one is the female voice.  Otherwise, Bird is really bland.

I thought it might be Lana Del Rey — however wikipedia credits Annie Clark aka St Vincent.

Not bad. Two point deduction for whistling.
To quote Alice of "Dilbert" fame: "Stop whistling, you freakin' moron . . . "
