I am your daughter carved out of your stone
I'm the seed that you dropped I'm the marrow of your bone
and I am the one who asked no questions
Designed to love you unconditional

I sprouted my shoots and I waited for your hands
and I laid down my roots but the summer came and went
and I looked to the sun, longed to feel your touch
But you knew nothing of unconditional love

And I rose up like a phoenix rose up from your ash
You just turned your back and I'll never understand
Though I had no armor you just let me go
Into the night to battle with your ghosts

If I could go back there I'd be my own angel
She won't buy you a mockingbird, she's incapable
So hush little baby and close your tired eyes
There are no answers so hush now hushabye

And I rose up like a phoenix rose up from your ash
You just turned your back and I'll never understand
Though I had no armor you just let me go
Into the night to battle with your ghosts

So I gathered up my sorrows and I took them on my tongue
and sang them 'til the morning When the sun came in so strong
I sang them 'til the daybreak and that's how I became strong

... without the late Delores' trademark vocal uplift, which alas became a detraction to me. I like this.

You should have listened to it until the end instead of hitting your head against that wall.
Melancholy female singers are my jam!
8 --> 9 👌
Like The Cranberries Delores O’Reirdon??
Wow.  These lyrics are something.  Makes me think of my daughter and her father.  He just walked away.  I'll never understand how anyone could do that to their baby.
She can sing without the overpowering breathiness that today's female vocalists (as opposed to singers) confuse with emotion...
Ew.
Powerful song, excellent performance.
I'm just saying ... I would normally probably give this tune a 7, but the fact that this one and the last 3 in this set have been rated BELOW 7, just makes me all the more appreciate Radio Paradise and the fact that the Goldsmiths really ARE goldsmiths who are willing to continue to mine for gold even if sometimes there may be a preponderance of folks that may not particularly jam with mellow crooners such as this... Oh well, what do the people know anyway: you've got to make your own unique and hella eclectic mix regardless of the usual beat! M'kay!?!
8. Good message, nicely delivered. I think if it was a man singing about the strength he found after his parent abandoned him it wouldn't garner so much criticism.
So depressing.....{#Frustrated}
...and now more music to gouge your eyes out to...

Unremarkable tune w/very good lyrics.  I'll find out for myself when she comes to MN Oct 2/14.

 Thanks for throwing this out there. Made me find the lyrics after the fact. Your comment isn't personal to me, but certainly to a friend of mine. Life's too short, huh?

Weepy drivel. Yawn.
I've heard this song a million times before without ever having heard it. Another bah..... {#Rolleyes}

Yeah, you're right.  We need to hear more songs from REAL women.   {#Eek}

Try some Florence and the Machine or Koko Taylor, then.

Amen.  That along with the whispery singers.
This set of song comments is one of the biggest reasons I like this place -- the music, of course, but all your listener comments crack me up!!!

That's weird. Sounds like the Cranberries, same tessiture less the power of the voice.
Its to smooth for us, Sorry.

Now that's pretty! Liked it a lot.
Lovely!

This shout reminds me on BBC dj's yell as he played Frankie Goes to hollywood's The Power of Love: "Smash that record! I don't gonna play it again. Over and Out.
...because of some little references to sexual personalities- it was early 80's

Good point...I concur...

I don't know much of this artist's work: does she have the range to deliver these lyrics at a faster tempo, with some rage? Now that would be an 8!

Don't fret, though; Florence Welch will come screaming along soon.

Yes, I enjoy a soft sweet voice with light music on occasion.....this is just one of those times.  Thanks RP.
Sounds alot like Lene Marlin

Just hit the mute key, Lily. No need to call me god, though :o)
That is such a haunting song, a triller!
Sweet & Feminine... Who can't relate to 'rising from the ashes like a Phoenix?'

I agree. Seems to be a theme with female singers (maybe on RP ) ,melancholy.

Gets difficult to listen to.

and maybe a spliff and two tequila slammers...
Sounds a heck of a lot like Lene Marlin (if anyone remembers her?!)... both vocally and musically, especially some of her non-single/chart tracks...
Pretty, but smarmy.

Dontje jes luv her voice.

 This is a beautiful song.

I agree.  Her voice just seems a tiny bit thinner though.
Poor Antje, lovely voice, but just mediocre minus songwriting.

" I rose up like a phoenix."

" That's how I became strong."

Can't write a song without using the pronouns, " I," and " You," fifty times each.

I thought she sounded a lot like Solas in this song and sure enough it turns out they've done 5 of her songs.....
Straight to my iTunes wishlist after 30 seconds....

Songs like this are why I love RP, went ahead and bought the album of course {#Dance}

I seriously doubt I would've ever even heard of her otherwise. Thank you!

Antje Duvekot .. what? great singer... I wanted my gf to sing like that...

I'm in the minority, but I am really sick of these baby doll sounding female vocalists.
I thought it was Jonatha Brooke at first. Very similar vocals and musical style.
Kinda sounds like a cross between Suzanne Vega and Edie Brickell.  Yet another great artist I've discovered on RP.  Thanks, Bill!{#Music}
Nice Google project here!  {#Eyes}
That was lurverly. Another great new tune brought to you by RP.
