Wow. A surprising number of haters for poor Sam. He seems like a pretty inoffensive guy, just doing his acoustic folk thing.  Not to everyone's taste to be sure but the vitriol is surprising. Or perhaps not: haters gonna hate.

It's funny that at least two other people seem to agree with you.  To me this song sounds nothing like America's "Tin Man" at all - not the tempo, not the melody, not the chord progression - nothing other than both songs having acoustic guitars.

There's something about this song that feels incredibly hopeful, celebratory... at peace with things, however those things may be. I'm not sure I can put my finger on why that is, but I know I smile whenever this one comes on, and have to turn it up and sing along. Thanks for playing it, RP. It always brightens my day to hear it!

I can't listen to this song without thinking about your comment, Jelani.... It's really odd, I was scrolling through the comments looking for a reply from Cynaera on a comment I'd made on this song, and came across this.

Not sure about this one.  Kind of a poppy sound, different from what I&W I've heard previously.  Was across the room when it came on, thought it might be an obscure Loggins-Messina song from the 70s.

It's my personal term for when someone cuts loose and becomes a total jerk. It's like that line in "Almost Cut My Hair" by CSNY - "Feel like letting my Freak-Flag fly..."  Instead of being a freak, my brother is an asshole on occasion. And yes - what little family I have is a trial. Seldom an embarrassment. I love them to pieces - it's just that sometimes, things get tense.

Fred, I believe it is closely related to the ass-hat, with either the flag's pole firmly planted in said ass or as in the ass-hat, one's head.  Either one is a comical visual with just a bit of imagination.

I hear shades of Bruce Cockburn's "Creation Dream", it's almost like the xylophone (?) player is playing the exact same awesome riff. I also agree with the Kenny Loggins comment. Bruce Cockburn, Kenny Loggins and Sam Beam, thumbs up!

I don't know much about Iron & Wine but what I have heard here. Most is tolerable but doesn't grab me.

This is one of those songs that we all have here that makes you stop what you are doing and click around to find out who it is, what it is, and try to dig a little deeper by reading what  your fellow listeners have to share about it.

I really enjoy the mood and especially the real accoustic mallet percussion, marimba I think, maybe xylophone.

At the risk of repeating myself, I love this song to pieces. And today, it's perfect for me. My brother has decided to let his asshole-flag fly, and I'm seeing a side of him I've never seen before. It's directed at me, for some reason. I'm sure there IS a reason, but he's with his best friend, so I'm guessing he feels empowered and emboldened to say things to me that he's never told me before. I had no idea I was such a monster.

So - I've retreated into my bedroom to lick my wounds, and this song was playing, and even with all the ugliness around me, this song made me grin and consider that maybe I'm not such a monster, afterall.  It'll blow over - stuff like this always does - but in the meantime, I'm cooking a turkey, repotting vegetable plants, cleaning litterboxes, doing laundry, and caring for two sick cats. I guess I should include "keeping my mouth shut" in there somewhere, since nothing I say is acceptable to my brother since his friend arrived.

Bottom line:  I'm SO grateful for this song, because it helped me through what could have been an emotional shoot-out with my brother. I'll tuck in - keep an eye on the turkey, maybe water some outdoor plants, and survive.  Thank you, RP, for this song. I cling to it on days like today.

Nice to finally hear this... 7 upon first listen.  It is quite likeable.

It's got a sunset driving along the coast kinda vibe to it.
