"Dimming of the Day" is a song written by Richard Thompson and performed with his then-wife Linda Thompson on the 1975 album Pour Down Like Silver. Beautiful rendition by David Guimour.

Oh...achingly beautiful. I've always loved Gilmour's music, but it's my first time hearing this, and I love it.  Puts me in a very good place for today.  Thank you, RP!

It's hard to miss covering Thompson. But what amazes me is this soft almost gentle rendition from someone who glowers more than smiles. Nice.

I much prefer Gilmour's voice to Thompson's. Amazing how high he can sing at his age...
Not a big fan of gospel choir backgrounds, but other than that, I like this version a lot.

Passable cover/adequate effort, but nothing like RT's original, the Corr's cover, the Bonnie Raitt cover, etc. etc. etc., (and I suspect the upcoming Allison Krauss cover).

I had this conversation with my nephew that was rather strange to me. It was strange because he does not see Pink Floyd from my history and he is a very good guitarist. He was saying that Mr. Gilmour was the sole reason that Pink Floyd existed and I (a bit buzzed) was saying that the crazy guy and Waters lyrics were the only reason that Floyd was any good. Lately, after listening for the first time to the Gilmour stuff, I understand where he is coming from. But my truth is that it was still the lyrics that made Pink, Pink... Mostly... Okay, Gilmours guitar had a lot to do with it. Maybe. :) Had Gary re-imagined this song with his electric it would have probably been outstanding. 4 for me. Kind of proved my original point :)

I think this is a very lovely version of a wonderful song. Gilmour's version sounds very different, and it sounds quite natural coming from him.

Agreed. Bonnie Raitt owns this song in my ears too! Gilmour sounds, er, wrong performing this.

David Gilmour is one of the best musicians ever. You always know his guitar style even before you hear his voice. I didn't know this album existed. It seems worth obtaining!
