Two weeks later like a surplus reprieve
I found a hair the length of yours on my sleeve
I wound it round and round my finger so tight
It turned to purple and a pulse formed inside

And I knew the beat 'cause it matched your own beat
I still remember it from our chest to chest and feet to feet
The easy silence then was a sweet relief to this hush
Of ovens, aeroplanes and of distant car horns

A fire a fire, you can only take what you can carry
A pulse your pulse, it's the only thing I can remember
I break you don't, I was always set to self-destruct though
The fire the fire, it cracks and barks like primal music

I said I knew the beat 'cause it matched your own beat
It's become my engine my own source of heat
The sea between us only amplifies the sound waves
Every hum and echo and crash paints my cave

A fire a fire, you can only take what you can carry
A pulse your pulse, it's the only thing I can remember
I break you don't, I was always set to self-destruct though
The fire the fire, it cracks and barks like primal music

These are not as celebrated nearly as much as they deserve.  An outstanding band.  Great everything.  Playing, performing, songwriting.  Slow burners but aren’t they the ones that last the longest?

I know we can't have new sets 24 hours a day, even just a few hours per days is a ton of work, but it's kind of interesting to notice unique sets and see how many years they last.  Maybe I've been spending too much time analyzing RP, lol.

Recognize this voice and the music without looking.  I was introduced to Snow Patrol 100 years ago from RP.  I fell into the depth of their musical catalog.  Cannot thank RP for this.
good lyrics

Same sequence a year later.
Good stuff.  Sounds like music from the good old days around 2000.
Man, I just don't get the dislike for these guys.  Is their music going to change the world?  Nope, not likely.  But it's good ol' pop rock.  They produce solid stuff.  10's?  no way...but if some Icelandic warbling or Korean gayageum is worthy of a 6 or 7, surely this is as well...so just lighten up people....it's okay to have a wee bit of fluff in our lives...
Only one thing I will need to carry
That is my lovely Bride.
I like the whole album.
Good Band!

Way too much SP hate here. They're fine.
One of the things I love about RP is that they play songs by easily hated bands like Snow Patrol or Dave matthews band for example.  You will have pretentious people even listening to a radio station like RP and they will hate it. People get your head out of your ass, you are not cooler or smarter than anyone for hating popular bands. Good music and songs can be made by anyone. This song for example is great.
Met the drummer Jonny Quinn one time. He is now married to a former coworker. Seemed like a really nice guy. He seemed surprised I'd heard of the Alpinestars' song 'Snow Patrol'. Apparently there's no connection.
c.
There is NO amount of Snow Patrol haters, even on RP, that can ever stop me from loving their songs. OK, a few of them. Since they all sound the same, it's so darn easy to adore... just a couple.

But they don't! There's a few more songs from this album and others that get played too (just click on the artist's name link).
And it's a nice song too imho.
Why do you always play this song
I had to turn it off. Bland. Repetitive. Unimaginitive. Dire. Pile of shyte.

Picked up 3 of their albums, oops.  It all sounds just like this, gag, Musak.  "Lifeboats" seems to be the only tune that is worth hearing, and even that is open to debate.  This is pablum that simply occupies ear space that could be filled by so many other more talented and appealing options.
Great mix tonight, Bill, on the night of the Trump inauguration {#Foot-in-mouth}.  Knew you would come through.

Pretty much anything Snow Patrol does calls to me.
Great songwriting! Lightbody!

Damn! I love this song!

thanks
Snow Patrol I've come to think of as very like Coldplay: cold, corporate, efficient, technically proficient, content-free lyrics. Suit music. The Spandau Ballet of the noughties. This song started off an 8, but has fallen to 3 and keeps falling.
....... as it finished yet
I have purchased 4 songs in the last 1/2hr!  I love what you play at RP and I am always introduced to new music that I had never heard before; thanks for the great station!!
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE I AM STARTING TO LOVE THIS AND I AM SCARED
They do have some very good songs - this is not one of them - PSD.
Oh God! not the Snow Patrol!  Please!  So Boring!
I love Gary's voice - I always tune into a Snow Patrol song because I recognize his voice. Nice.{#Clap}

Meh.
sounds like biffy clyro in this song - pretty dull.

bottom line - it's 'indy music' by numbers - formula. zero originality.
{#Whisper}  I have a theory:  Bill added the PSD option because he knew Snow Patrol was going to stay in the playlist.  One of his relatives is in the band.  {#Group-hug}   {#Nyah}

Really like Snow Patrol.. how could you not?
I cannot say enough good things about this band!  One of the best to see live if you get the chance.

I love a band that takes simplicity to the level they do.  Keeping it simply but still entertaining is an art.
Seems a bit precious and overwrought.
I've always thought this song was a bit dramatic. I also find myself enjoying it every time I hear it. The conundrum that is my life in general...
Not again! 'Primal Music' I don't think so chaps.

Bill, you've played it once too often! Snow Patrol are overrated - not total crap, but not very good.

Feelings of boredom are never far away when this band are playing... To the 'Patrol: If I did tie you to a rocket and send you off, would you take your sound equipment with you and stay out of earshot? Or just patrol distant snows quietly? {#Doh}
YET ANOTHER LONG BORING JAM!! 3 chord narcolepsey. You must be planning to play some actual **music** soon, eh?
I've heard some good tunes by SP this is DEFINITELY not one of them! Could we some others instead...please!
why won't psd work. please!!!!!

I have really tried to like these guys, but they seem so repetitive and ultimately bore me to tears or annoy me to distraction. There. I said it.

Thanks for turning me on to this group Bill, they just keep coming through with good music. I think the first time
I heard them was 3-4 years ago along with PorcupineTree (for the first time) and they have become a permanent and enjoyable part of my days and nights... Old dogs can learn new licks.

Still can't figure out the attraction here.  I hear it from time to time but not enough to really keep me fully interested.

I interpret your remark to mean that anyone who has a critical comment about a sappy, mediocre soft-rock band has an unwarranted high opinion of their own opinions, or, something like that.  Not really.  I was just stating my reaction to this oozing sap factory that goes by the name Snow Patrol.  In all truth, I am stating a fact.  It's what they do for me.  They are a radio-safe soft-rock band with mediocre talent.  True, I could surely not produce music like this.  I don't think it matters though, becuase they produce music for people to buy and consume.  I have very good reason to judge it.  My judgement:  it is sappy, mediocre, pleasant music, sometimes it's pretty good.  Nice soft-rock fare that I will never pay money for.  Not quite good enough.  I bought one CD and I sold it as soon as I could.   It's not exactly high art.  Hey, it's my opinion, what do I know.  You know what, I am not even going to charge you for my opinion.  You get these little golden nuggets gratis.

I was alive... but I don't remember it.  I do distinctly remember a few years later when we lost the Challenger.  I was watching live at school.  Sorry to be such a bummer, but it is such a strong memory still.  Much like 9/11 in that way.  Absolutely tragic.

That's funny because I was in the process of writing:

This is the sort of band that will always be acceptable to a wide varity of musical tastes. Years from now people will be humming along to the chords at bars, trying to remember who's song it is.

This is a true album (with one shitty song that I ignore).  It seems to tell a story and this is a great one.  I do not believe history will ignore this band.

And then you said, "Pff, maybe you just don't get it."

I like these guys. I met the drummer once, at a friend's wedding. He seemed very nice, no 'rock star' about him at all.

I tried to ask him about the name of the band, because there's a song by Alpinestars called 'Snow Patrol', and the chorus includes the line "Snow Patrol / Saved my soul". I still don't know if there's any connection though.
"And I knew the beat 'cause it matched your own beat"

Too deep for me...

If irony is "a state of affairs or events that is the reverse of what was or was to be expected; a result opposite to and as if in mockery of the appropriate result" (per Merriam-Webster) it seems to me that that both Alanis and the RP poster are free to consider their situations irony—it's based on their expectations.

If I she expects to get some good karma on wedding days and other big events, it's ironic if she doesn't. If she thinks fate is mocking her by letting her meet her dream guy after he's married, same thing. And if the poster expects his son to like a band with a bizarre name like Stone Temple Pilots or Shiny Toy Guns, or Death Cab For Cutie and he likes one so normal it's actually his job occupation, where's the problem in calling it irony?

Anyway, that's all I've got time for. I'm going to a concert by my favorite band: "The Pedantic Grammar Mavens."

Well, I like it.

HATE THIS BAND!
Here's the story for the failed sequel to Weird Science:

Anthony Michael Hall and the brown-haired guy put pictures into their computer of a number of better-left-forgotten 90's bands such as Verve Pipe, Jars of Clay, Dishwalla and Creed. But Instead of Kelly LeBrock popping out of the shower, Snow Patrol plays on Radio Paradise.

A mediocre 90's band in 2010?!  That's not Weird Science...that's just plain cruelty!

I'm personally not so fond of this track, but is there something wrong with liking a certain kind of music or a group?

I bought Final Straw because of how much I liked what I heard here on RP and then when I got it home, I listened to it all the way through several times, unable to find any hint of whatever it was I liked in the first place. But this song, I like! Maybe they're only good out of context?
Can't believe I haven't rated this song yet. A definite 8.
This has a nice tune but also sounds a lot like everything else on commercial radio.
