Solo seems to be Frank Black's release from the constraints of previous bands. He can write rock n roll like water flowing from the tap. The guy has genius that is evident in any band he's with.

Black Francis or Frank Black or BF or FB or Puff Daddy or P. Diddy or whatever moniker he goes by these days, is not the Pixies, nor even close. I think he suffers from the common malady that so many who were front persons in great bands, like Ric Ocasek, Roger Waters, Sting, etc, suffer from. Their solo work pales in comparison to the work with their former bands.
