It was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember
There was snow, white snow
Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze, down below
When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low
If you love me, won't you let me know?

It was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And a fox became God
Priests clutched onto Bibles
Hollowed out to fit their rifles
And a cross was held aloft
Bury me in armour
When I'm dead and hit the ground
My nerves are poles that unfroze
And if you love me, won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier
Who the captain of some sinking ship
Would stow, far below
So if you love me, why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to Violet Hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still
Said if you love me, won't you let me know?
If you love me, won't you let me know?

Zep to Coldplay, that is like downshifting from 5th to reverse. Hard on the gears.
I have noticed that ''Violet hill'' comes every 1st in the month on the Radio Paradise playlist... Just noticing. {#Innocent}

Thanks for the link. This is fun:
By writing this letter, I am indeed sticking my head far above the parapet. The big danger is that Cold Play will retaliate against me. It'll most likely try to force me to develop an eating disorder although another possibility is that its activities are a sociopolitical tragicomedy. On the one hand, they leave us in the lurch, but on the other hand, they strip the world of conversation, friendship, and love. The most entertaining part, though, is that the unalterable law of biology has a corollary that is generally overlooked. Specifically, many people are incredulous when I tell them that Cold Play intends to siphon off scarce international capital intended for underdeveloped countries. “How could Cold Play be so brusque?”, they ask me. “It doesn't seem possible.” Well, it is obviously possible, and now I'll explain exactly how Cold Play plans to do it. But first, you need to realize that if it would, just once, demonstrate real and genuine concern for others, Cold Play might begin to realize that we find among narrow and uneducated minds the belief that it can achieve its goals by friendly and moral conduct. This belief is due to a basic confusion that can be cleared up simply by stating that Cold Play likes to argue that the majority of saturnine, brassbound recreants are heroes, if not saints. Admitting the apparent correctness of this contumelious argument, we may prove the contradictory of its conclusion by an unassailable argument of our own, which is called an elenchus. My elenchus begins with the observation that Cold Play is not only immoral but amoral. Anyway, I hope I've made my point, which is that Cold Play is trying to hold itself up as a cultural icon.

Actually I agree with you, but for totally different reasons. It gives me the opportunity to skewer the suck ass songs when they play them and that brings me joy especially during mundane work days. So, yes thanks RP!{#Cheers}

Oh and b4 you label me a hater or troll, my positive comments outweight my negative over 2 to 1.{#Yes} Look it up if you are so inclined to do such a thing. I think the Beatles´ examples you quote are simple, but effective. And I agree there is nothing wrong with repetition in poetry, songwriting, etc. I just think the whole imagery is a bit lazy..."by the rooftops I remember it was snow, white snow".

Well I don't know that I agree with you that Rush of Blood was Coldplay's only good album, I thought Viva La Vida is pretty damn good, and Coldplay are finally starting to synthesize their influences into something resembling an original sound (I'm sure that Chris Martin crosses himself before shows, mumbling "to the Bono and to the Edge and to the Larry and Adam).  If Coldplay have one good album in them, it may be Viva La Vida, or it may be Rush of Blood, or even Parachutes, but none are that much better than the others. If Coldplay have one GREAT album in them, then I don't think they've had it yet, but I do think that it's coming.

As for other bands (and I'm not sure you were addressing your question to me, but what the hell) I can't think of any off the top of my head.  All the bands that come to my mind have had several good albums, or I wouldn't remember them.  Who else did you have in mind?

Yeah, they did that in Charlotte. During the second set (one of these was set up out on the lawn) they did an accoustic cover of "Billie Jean" which was pretty good.

I'm still not quite sure why this band is such a big deal.  Their music is average to slightly better than when compared to other acts.

There's a throwback quality to them.

For some reason, watching them live and especially on this track; I find there's something very FGTH "Welcome To The Pleasuredome"  about it.  Mash that up with some U2 "Sunday Bloody Sunday".  Let's not think for a moment that Chris Martin is anything close to the frontman that Bono is now or ever was, or that Coldplay musically can even hold U2's jocks.  As a vocalist; Martin pales even to Holly Johnson of FGTH.

Some good hooks here and there on their first release, but really so far I just haven't heard anything from them that sticks.  It's all pretty forgettable, really.  "The Cure" wrote better songs that sounded similar.
