Are we having the time of our lives?
Are we having the time of our lives?
Are we coming across clear?
Are we coming across fine?
Are we part of the plan here?
Are we having the time of our lives?
Are we coming across clear?
Are we coming across fine?
Are we having the time of our lives?
Are we part of the plan here?

We had the drive and the time on our hands
One little room and the biggest of plans
The days were shaping up frosty and bright
Perfect weather to fly
Perfect weather to fly

Poundin' the streets where my father's feet
Still ring from the walls
We'd sing in the doorways or bicker and row
Just figuring how we were wired inside
Perfect weather to fly

So in looking to stray from the line
We decided instead we should pull out the thread
That was stitching us into this tapestry vile
And why wouldn't you try?

A nice song following a great song always gets a bump in my book and I'm not too proud to say so. Previous: The Pretty and the Fair, Jesse Colin Young, a song I'd never heard.

I was kinda determined not to like Elbow, but... late one night glass of a nice Islay malt in hand, channel hopping and caught them playing live, Glastonbury perhaps, masterful performance, been hooked ever since
This is an amazing album in it’s entirety. Not one bad tune in the bunch.

Just improves with time. Such a talented band.

One of my favorite bands.

Sounds WAY too much like he's consciously imitating Peter Gabriel, almost to the point of plagiarism. It's not just the voice. It's also the composition. Dude needs to find his OWN song.

Holy cow, I love this song!
I picked the album up a few weeks ago.  If you like this song, then you will like the album.  This is one of my favorite tracks (along with the bluesy rock track Grounds for Divorce).  The lyrics are like a fine tea, you need to steep in them a little to really get them.  At first listen, the lyrics appear to be disjointed and have no cohesion, but after several listens the story that is built into each song comes to the surface.
 Frater_Kork wrote:

No, but I trust you meant that as a compliment.

This sounds like it could be a Peter Gabriel tune if it had more aggressive percussion and syncopation and a ton more airplay here at RP.
Annie Lennox, is that you?
This is growing on me. I think it has the Peter Gabriel sound as well - and I like that.
I'd add that they seem to know their ass from their name. (sorry, couldn't help it)

Probably. But then, I'm still absorbing the lyrics, so maybe after a few more listens, I'll notice that hiss and it might annoy me. For now, though, I really am enjoying the whole of the song. Call me "absorption-girl." {#Roflol}
hmm... odd.. when even I hear this guy's voice I'm immediately creeped out... it's like he's ALL depressed.. voice & music... yucky.
I don't buy a lot of CDs, and this might be the only one I've acquired this year... I love it more and more every song I hear.  Unique style and such rich and varied songs.  Outstanding!
I was thinking the same thing.

Between Elbow and Porcupine Tree, RP has cost me a small fortune in CD's. IMO "Weather to Fly" is an excellent song and oddly one of the weakest efforts on "Sledom Seen Kid". I'm okay so long as "Grounds for Divorce" doesn't play while I'm driving. Pushes the Tach into the insane range.

Fantastic song and album!  I got the album from hearing it on RP and is one of my favorites!  Great job guys!  Can't wait for the next album!

This song is beautiful live - saw them play it twice this summer.  They start this song by gathering around and doing a toast of some brown alcohol that makes the violinists grimace.  The opening bit where they do the acoustic version is great. It's easy to find on YouTube.

Sadly the band says they are going to disappear for two years to write their next album.  In the meantime, someone please upload The Bones Of You so we can hear in on Radio Paradise to pass the time!

Two years?!? That is much too long!!!

I was just thinking of uploading Bones of You today. I just may do that.

Also, Asleep in the Back is being re-released with bonus tracks and a DVD. Don't know if it will be available in the US- as of now, you can pre-order on HMV. It comes out late next month.

More like gene splicing with Bowie, Gabriel and Sting.

And it looks like I will have to buy yet another CD because of RP. I was hoping internet radio would curb my music addiction not feed it.

Just listened to this flying over Calis. insane terrain with 3 marts. and a zanax starring from the window thinking what a wonder to fly.

I love Elbow and Seldom Seen Kid is an amazing CD. One of my top CDs of 2008.

Perfect weather to fly - Perfect Song! I bought this cd based on what I heard on RP and I was not disappointed. One of the best of 2008.

Elbow reminds me of Duncan Sheik. I wonder why RP doesn't have any Duncan Sheik in its playlist?
perfect weather to whine.....

sounds like a near-suicidal peter gabriel.. maybe what'd happen if you forced peter gabriel to tour with the indigo girls...

Nice opinion, dude.  Hope you're not a teacher.  I'll just enjoy listening to all the Elbow I can, with my ears intact.

I picked up "Seldom Seen KId" over Christmas after hearing it here and I'm very pleased with it, it's in heavy rotation in my car cd player.

Thanks RP for turning me on to Elbow.  This is one of my top albums of 2008, and I've since picked up "Station Approach", which is another solid effort.  Elbow to me is Peter Gabriel meets Pink Floyd.
Dude is seriously channeling Gabriel.
ooh go away, go back to bed, go see a shrink, take a deep dive in the ocean,
whatever,
but don't sing songs when you are so bored!!!!

i *do* think the vocal is peter gabriel-ish, but i have to say, this song destroys me every time i hear it.

i love this song.

i understand the "sounds like" stuff around here. i do it, too. yet, i so don't hear any gabriel at all in elbow. voice sounds completely different to me. love both elbow and gabriel, too. but i'm with you on completely different accent. i'm dying to see this tour.

The beginning of this song sounds like when you have those bitewings in your mouth for a dental x-ray.

Even though they aren't new they are my new fav band thanks to RP.

I'm starting to really like this group, they remind me the Blue Nile on some of their songs.

very pretty tune.  first time I'm hearing this.
I have GOT to get some Elbow.  I like everything I hear!

*wonders if Great Expectations is in the RP library*

Sting, is that you?
A new favorite. First it was Porcupine Tree, now it looks like Elbow.
Thanks RP.
I was introduced to Elbow by my son, who found a video of cats singing their cover of Independent Woman. I've since fallen in love with their sound. Scattered Black and Whites, Station Approach, Red, their cover of August & September — all brilliant.

I loved Elbow's song My Very Best, this one is okay too.
Nice.  Mellow yet cool.

Feels a bit slowed down like Strawberry Fields...........
