You know what to do
Alright mm, c'mon

I'm uptight, super-gutted, out of the frame
I shake my leg on the ground like an epileptic battery man
I'm making my move, lettin' loose like a belt
Little worse for wear, but I'm wearing it well

Tell me what's wrong with a little grind n' bump?
When the stereos erupt with a kick drum punch?
Once you do it once, probably do it again and again
You did it before, but you're more erratic than then

And you had a rough night and the ride's just begun
Let a little bit of this, put the past where it's done
Don't let it hold you back, but you've already said
No dead flowers gonna grow till the dirt gets wet

Put the elevator music on
Pull me back where I belong
The ambulance sings along
The fly on the wall doesn't know what's wrong

If I could forget myself
Find another lie to tell
If I had a soul to sell
I'd buy some time to talk to my brain cells

Gutbucket and a bottle of pain
It's like the schoolhouse lights will never turn on again
Till the bottom wears off of these high-heeled boots
The bodies all move to some backbone roots

Everybody workin' hardt till the yard is all clean
The dishes wash good in the washin' machine
Now you brush your teeth and you comb back your hair
You drive your vehicle like you just didn't care

And you walk into work with the boys and the girls
And you're doin' it to death, it's the end of the world
Now there's everybody's sweatin', forgettin' what's on their mind
With your hand like a mirror you can see what's inside

When you're down and out
Pounded and there's nothing that's real
It's like a plastic heart
Too amputated to feel

I got a soda can bible song
A paranoid Jumbotron
The Lord took the weekend off
The fly on the wall doesn't know what's wrong

If I could forget myself
I'd find another lie to tell
The bottom of an oil well
Cell phone's ringing I could talk to my brain cell

Come on
What?
All the dudes with banjos
Chicks with wicks
Animals with bananas
Got my hand like a mirror
You can see what's around

Na na na
Na na na
Na na na

How do people find this stuff out? Do you go looking for his religious affiliation or is there a site that "outs" people or something? How utterly ridiculous. Why the hell do you care??
The fact of Beck's being a Scientologist has been leaking into public awareness for the last year or so, from what I can tell. I ran across "the news" whilst seeking fan pix of him on the web. (Cuz he's just soooooooo cute :-) His wife, Marissa Ribisi - sister of the awesome Giovanni Ribisi - is pretty active in Scientology and talks about it at length on her web site. https://www.our-home.org/marissaribisi/ (click here) For me, I was tweaked at first to find out about Beck's Scientological affiliation, but you know, it's way more funner to just forget about it and groove... - as they say, Trust the art, not the artist....

Maybe an artist's personal views are nobody's business, but the fact that Beck is a scientologist really bugs me. I generally don't care about, and, respect opinions and beliefs. Certain sects and political radicals are the exception, though. That said, I still like his music.
I saw something on him about that and it was pretty apparent to me that while he was raised in a scientologist home and met his girlfriend through it (who seems very involved), he doesn't really care about it, it's just there in his background. Got the distinct impression he just doesn't give religion much thought.
Hooray for Beck!
Dross!

LOL. That was my favourite part of that CD too!

Me too. I'd be dancing between floors all the time if it did.

Scientology is the one religion where people are activly disappointed to find out someone believes. I've heard "Oh man! He/she is a Scientologist? That SUCKS!" It's not like you hear "He's a Presbyterian! Oh MAN!!" Pretty funny when you think about it.
Most other religions haven't made the news, lately, with some kind of illegal or borderline activities. As a recovering ex-catholic I am not crazy about that club, either. I am working on appreciating art or music without taking other aspect of the artist's life into account. But, then again: Shouldn't art be an expression of your soul and how you relate to the world around you? Grooving track, by that scientologizer.

This gives me a new appreciation for real elevator music.
I think Beck is an incredible individual. Regrettably, I don't own a cd or anything of his, but I think he is better now than he was 13 years ago. And I thought he was pretty good then too. I should get some of his tunes. He was on Saturday Night Live not to long ago and they were awesome. I was pretty drunk, but absolutely loved it. Not to many can do more with the telephone as an instrument
pretty ho-hum for Beck, does he just sample the same stuff over and over? This would have been original on Midnight Vultures, but just seems re-hashed 4 cd's later
you know what bugs me? the idea that people keep bringing up his religious beliefs. he seems to have done a pretty good job of keeping it to himself and he certainly doesn't preach about it in his music. given that, why should anybody care?

I wish all elevator music sounded like this.
His religious trip is for his own consumption, but Hey, as for what he puts out for public consumption, as an artist, he is undeniably able to come up with, crank out, and lay down groove after groove. And I must say that I do groove to most of what he does. Que onda, guero? Hey, check out that new Yanni cassette. Yeah, I'm takin' a ceramics class. Andele, joto, your popsicle is melting!
A little worse for wear, but I'm wearing it well
My new mantra. . .
Got respect for this song. I like the instrumentation and the vocals match the usual Beck theme, but somehow it seems fresh. If he's really a Scientologist, got ZERO respect for that though!
If you had told me, when Mellow Gold came out, that Beck would still be around and rockin' in 2006, I don't think that I would've believed it. I've been really impressed with his development as an artist, though, and I own almost every single album. Great work!!!
Please, no rap.

New BECK!
Correct. This is a good track, but wait til you hear "Cellphone's Dead" or "Think I'm in Love" or "1000BPM".
Hmmm. I dig it.
New BECK!
