The lack of subtlety makes this completely uninteresting, in my opinion. Sounds like something you would read on a fortune-cookie message. For it to go on any longer than that is overkill.
i don't see how "tatoos while you wait" it a quirky or good line. if not done while you wait, how do you get your tattoos?

My favorite BC tune is Wondering Where the Lions Are. This one's decent though. I like a lot of the stuff on that album with the black cover too. The one with the Christmas song. Cool stuff.
But not the Christmas album! Haha! Haven't heard that. Didn't realize he had a Christmas album....

This is a lovely tune, with BC's quirky perspectives (tattoos while you wait), but I found the rest of the album quite weak. The gasoline tune is embarassingly insipid from one of Canada's best singer-songwriters.
I'm a big Bruce fan, but this CD is not one his stronger efforts. Saw him in concert very recently and I swear he played every friggin' song off the new CD. Come on Bruce, with a catalogue like yours, mix it up a little!

Bruce COCKburn. Damn - Life is too short to listen to this sucky song.
I like pronouncing this guy's name phonetically. Peurile, I know...

Well, not so much "moved on to" as returned to. When Cockburn first came out as a recording artist, he was a 100% old fashioned folkie, right down to the grannie glasses and pillow concerts. He became rockier and more militantly political throughthe '80's. Having received USA exposure only in the 1980's, he's not remembered as anythinbg else.
Good observation, however I would say he was more passionate than militant. True, "Rocket Launcher" has a violent tone, but I've heard him say in interviews that he was inspired to write that song in response to his own feelings of rage at the injustice he'd seen in Guatemala. His take was, if he, as a foreigner who can go back to the security of his homeland, could feel such anger at the injustice, how difficult it must be for the victims to keep themselves from violence toward their aggressors. "Rocket Launcher" is more about exploring the dark side of the human condition than an incitement to violence. We can all be tempted to be violent, but we only become militant when we give in to that temptation.

Simply nicely tired.

That would be unlike RP. They're rarely not playing this song.

This isn't my favorite song from what is a very good album, although I like the trumpet solo at the end.

That's funny and disgusting at the same time. Go back to your hole.
Can't stand this song

Great Song...
Nap time. Good night.
I've seen that billboard, too, along a sweeping curve of I-95 in Florida, seems like near Melbourne, perhaps Daytona, where it is advertised "tattoos while you wait." It is also the official slogan of Tattoo Charlies in Louisville KY, I just learned. https://www.tattoocharlies.com/html/home.html
Al, you're tone deaf. This is a perfect example of a purposefully understated tune. Bruce is a modern master, and few artists have ever put together the run of albums that he has in the last 10 years. From Charity of Night onwards, each one chock-full of sleek guitar work, brilliantly complex arrangement, and the most soulful lyrics anyone is writing today. Al_Dente wrote:

A nice meaningful song -- but I swear this has been played just about every day around this time...

almost too direct
Hey Bruce, does your cockburn?
I like Bruce Cockburn (you gotta like a guy who writes "dirty IMF" into a song lyric), but this particular song is played an awful lot...
my first 1/10. This is dung.

When I first heard Bruce in 1984,FM radio was playing a tune of his named If I Had a Rocket Launcher.A bizzare mad as hell type of ballad that friends in my circle at the time where like ( have you heard that song about a rocket launcher?)About that time some drunk chic that was at the party that I was at said I thought that song was about a rocking lawnchair. I'm glad Bruce has moved on to acoustic folk rock stuff....

That has to be one of the best mondegreens I've ever heard!

He wrote that song in response to his experiences in Guatemalan refugee camps in Mexico where he witnessed the Guatemalan military attacking their own people by helicopter.

I've heard a lot of Cockburn over the years and, listening to him I can't help but feel he's an artist I'm "supposed to" like, but somehow I just don't that much.

My wife thought Eric Clapton had managed a hit with a song called "croquet". Keep that a secret.
I thought Neil Young was singing about 'Forgetting Ohio"

Not digging this one - seems trite and derived. and repetitive. And redundant. And .. oh forget it!! Just call now.
Does anyone know, did Bruce do the production himself? He's been on a roll the previous 3 albums and its nice to see he's still on it.
Right on time. He's playing about 50 miles from here tonight.
I just saw him last week. Wonderful concert. Bought the CD. It's very good.
Life Short Call Now - good advice. Edit: There's a lot of good stuff on this new album. Of course, It's Bruce C.. but the production is fantastic. And, as expected, he has a lot to say.
Ahhhh, New Bruce! Very nice!
I don't think I've ever heard him sing. I like!

i agree wholeheartedly.
Nice song in a nice set. Thanks B & R.

I agree, Bruce is a great musician and surrounds himself with the same. I've seen him live several times and I've never been disappointed.
If you read the liner notes to his new album, you'll see he's got Ron Sexsmith, Hawksley Workman, Damhnait Doyle, and Ani DiFranco singing with him at various points.
... yeah, I know I'm a shameless promoter. So sue me!

Gorgeous song. I love how he sets up the chord progression in the chorus to sound like something predictable, then makes it turn upward, in a direction you never expected it to go. And the musicianship... so tight. I can confirm (empirically!) that they're as strong on stage as on the album... definitely worth seeing on tour this fall. ... yeah, I know I'm a shameless promoter.
