Sat at my window watched the world
Wake up this morning
Purple sky slowly turning golden,
Distant elms so orange
You'd swear they're burning

All this flowing water
Has got my mind wandering.
Do you ever finally reach
A point of knowing
Or do you just wake up one day
And say, I am going?

What will I tell you
When you ask me why I'm crying
Will I point above
At the Red Tail gracefully soaring
Or down below where it's prey
Is quietly trembling?

Two thousand years ago Jesus is left there hanging.
Purple sky slowly turning golden.
Cowards at his feet loudly laughing.
Loved ones stumbling homeward
Their words reeling.
Red Tail above my head quietly soaring.
Waters turn from ice, creak is roaring.
He says, enough of all this shit I am going.

Thanks, Bill. I never tire of this song. I’m a huge CB fan and this is my favorite song of theirs.
Just one time, Bill. 11….please?

Ever since I listened to the Trinity Sessions and hearing a great version of sweet jane, this group can do no wrong in my eye, so to the people who diss this station, SCREW YOU

A masterful piece of work, I agree. Not just the actual performances, but the care they put into the production. Meticulous.

I cannot help but feel that most people who seem so eager to diss this amazing Canadian group must never bother to contemplate or even read the lyrics. I am almost always brought to tears; if not by the lyrics, then, by Margo's powerful singing. The end of this song never fails to rip my heart wide-open, and that's a good thing; a thing that only Art or Love can do. I myself think that few groups or singers have the power to move the mind and heart like Cowboy Junkies, and I'm grateful every time I hear them on RP or my iTunes playlists.

Okay as someone who gets a bit sick of all the Cowboy Junkies on RP, hunh, I kinda like this one.
Funny this should come up....I was just thinking that I was hearing Margo's voice singing background on the Great Lake Swimmer's song a few songs ago.  :)

Love this song so much... this is ten years after the album was released—

I knew it was the Junkies!

ergo, thanks to RP for introducing me to more home team music. <g>

Hmm, might have to get this CD.

If only my amazon.ca account had not been hacked.....

Everybody in my church loves this holy moly song...

brilliant and beautiful...  this quality of high art is rare...  special...  love it love it love it...

Love anything by these Junkies!                        {#Daisy}
Maybe one has to be a junkie to appreciate it?
nope. not right now anyway.
But still mighty good. Gotta love the Red-tailed hawk.

yep, this song is 'bone chilling' ....... in a bad way.
The Boring Monkeys, as I call them, never get out of second gear--stuck, it seems, in a world of soporific melancholy. The beauteous Margo Timmins wouldn't know an upbeat tempo if it chomped on her cute little bum.
Hated these guys since the Trinity Session.
Loved these guys since The Trinity Session.
WTH? When did this song come out? It's so different from Caution Horses, Trinity Session, even Lay It Down... It's so great, in an entirely different way. I'm glad they can evolve and still be high quality. Rock on, Junkies!
yes yes yes! great song. made my day so much better.
I like this album a lot, this band is sooooo worth seeing live
"Enough of all this sh*t, I'm going." This song is bone-chilling live. One of my all-time Junkie favorites.

And what other forms of hearing loss can you recall? If you think Margo's out of tune, I'm not sure who, if anyone, will stand up to such measurement. A computer, perhaps? Love the Junkies...still a likeable tune.

This really is a Good Friday treat, well, it's Friday here anyway, it's 08.47 actually and the sun is warming the perishing frost from off the blades of grass.
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! (BIG contented sigh.)
Nice. This is one of my favorite songs off of this album.
Perhaps your opinion needs changing. Many of us have been fan for years. This particular album is not exactly new either. s buck-arkansas wrote:

All this flowing water - has got my mind wandering. Beautiful. Even better live. s
the c-junkies seem to be expanding their sound; more diverse instruments, fuzz guitars and, at times, rockin' drums and bass. if you listen, you'll notice the difference. they're changing. perhaps our opinions need to change as well.
