I can accept them growing and changing, isn't that normal of them?

REM is OVER. Someone please send them an email or call them to let them know. They seem to keep puting out albums and embarrassing themselves. =;
Did Peter Buck forget his electric guitar for this album?
This tune is ok but am I the only one who misses the raw mid-90s REM?
Ok, maybe I am. But this album and the last one get so bogged down with acoustic guitar and mandolin. Where's the anger? Where's the passion?

I agree. REM gives me Rapid Eye Movement. Just too bland!

It honestly pains me to rate an REM song "ho-hum."
Was Bill Berry really the lifeblood of this band? I haven't found any of the recordings since he left to be interesting in an REM way.
Beautifully bittersweet.
I'd say my boys from Athens are aging quite well.
Beeing an old REM fan/listener, I'm kinda dissapointed with their last work...
Or maybe it's just me wanting an album to top Automatic for the People...
The song itself is kinda flat and boring.
Like finding an extra track on an old REM CD. And that's a Good Thing (tm). Great hook...
:goodvibes.gif:
Betting that this song will be the theme song of some big blockbuster movie in the next 12
months... Even sounds like some producer could base his movie script on that song...
Possible script:
Boy meets girl (or boy);
Boy happily in love with his mate;
Boy has to leave town:
Script open for any conclusions....
Nice atmospheric sounds and good inner mood to the album.
Thumbs and a half up for this album...
Currius can't wait to see them on stage in 2 weeks and jump to Star 69 and It's the end of the World.....
"offering me solutions,
offering me alternatives...
That I decline"
(Something around those lines!)
This isn't a bad little pop song. However, knowing the great work they've done in the past, it's hard not to be disappointed. We're just never going to get another Reckoning I'm affraid.

bwaahaa! my sentiments exactly!

Nice, mellow song.
See https://www.radioparadise.com/modules.php?name=songinfo&song_id=32664 for their record with Coldplay and U2
I generally like REM, but still won't buy that record. I missed this one because I was on the road.

I like this a little more on every listen yet at the same time I find the backing track quite bland. In fact, it sounds very much like a backing track with vocals (if you get what I mean). A band as good as REM should be able to make their instruments sound more dynamic and less generic. I do hope the album has tracks of better quality.I'm not sure if the problem lies with the production or a lack of inspiration/interest from the band but they can definitely do better!
This is really growing on me.
I love REM. But it's not their best effort, sadly. I'd like to hear the rest of the album, though.

Thanks Stubby - I like old music because I am OLD! I do like alot of new music and try to be fair in all of my ratings. Just bought all of the Porcupine Tree albums (Thanks RP). I just can't stand REM on so many levels. I was going to reply about the MTV thing but as you pointed out, I have very little influence on Britney, Justin and the Simpson girls.
This is the first REM tune I've liked since Bill Berry left.

Well put! I for one am very excited about the new CD...it's been awhile since this "old time" sound of theirs!
Wow, this is really pretty! Great song!
great new tune for a great band

Same-o - Same-o! How many words can we cram into a boring musical framework? REM has to be the most over-rated band today.
