Uh well, dance all night, play all day
Don't let nothin' get in the way
Dance all night, keep the beat
Don't you worry 'bout two left feet

Shake it up
Shake it up, oo yeah
Shake it up
Shake it up

Dance all night and get real loose
You don't need no bad excuse
Dance all night with anyone
Don't let nobody pick your fun

Shake it up, oo, oo
Shake it up, yeah yeah
Shake it up, oo, oo
Shake it up

That's right, I said
Dance all night
Go go go
Dance all night
Get real low
Go all night
Get real hot
Well, shake it up now, all you've got, woo

Dance
Oo dance

Uh well, dance all night and whirl your hair
Make the night cats stop and stare
Dance all night, go to work
Do the move with a quirky jerk

Just shake it up, oo oo
Shake it up, oo yeah
Shake it up
Shake it up

Uh well, dance all night
Go go go
Get so light
Get real low
Dance all night
Get real hot
Shake it up, with all you've got, woo

Shake it up, make a scene
Let them know what you really mean
And dance all night, keep the beat
And don't you worry 'bout two left feet

Just shake it up, oo, oo
Shake it up, oo oo, yeah
Shake it up, oo, oo
Shake it up, oh, yeah

Shake it up, shake it up babe
Shake it up, oo, oo
Shake it up, shake it up babe
Shake it up, oo, oo

Shake it up, shake it up, yeah yeah, shake it up
Oo oo, shake it up
Shake it up, shake it up babe
Shake it up, oo, oo

LOL! Too funny!

between a brune and a blond    perhaps :)    désolé i'm français :)
Another that makes me
ohhhhh, I thought the 'quirky jerk' was a person.

I'm not saying I've been called that before or anything, just one of those misheard lyrics.
For eight summers in a row, there was nothing better than putting the latest from The Cars in the tape deck, cranking it up, and smiling! What a cool, fun band!
Bacon & cheese burger category!
GOOD TUNE!
Elliot Easton!  Killer guitar solo.

Fellow Berklee alumnus.
Wasn't a whole 'thing' with the Cars about how they supposedly made these songs with a wink? Like 'we want to be a Serious Band but here's a goofy number guaranteed to be a pop hit'?
Hope your quirky jerk doesn't mind doing the moves with you?

read that Ocasek would get his mix listening through car speakers.
A classic groove, thanks Bill. If there was to be a theme for this musical comment on Pop culture, this track should be followed by the B52's "Planet Claire" and then Outkast's "Hey ya". Cheers.
Dammit, Ric, why you gotta go and die? :(
And we lose another one. RIP Ric - thanks for fun tunes and great memories.
This takes me back to spending summer days by the swimming pool with pals and the local rock station blaring.
The Cars are classic, as is this simple little song. Deal with it people!
Ugh. The mixing on that guitar.
Most of the Cars material is thin, vapid, trite, and wretched. This doesn't even rise to that.

I see what you did there Bill.. Songs about planets and space -> Songs about the earth -> the earth moving -> moving and shaking. Someone's feeling clever.
This is why we listen to RP, no?

Shake it up, alright.

Looks like Bill's dustin off the playlist from 2005. This song is and always has been cheezy but for some reason its ok to listen to every once in awhile, in my not-so-important opinion anyway.
Its Fun, Fun, Fun - nice break from how serious things have become these days.
i never liked the cars tunes where ric ocasek sings lead.
My daughter loved this song when she was 2. She would sit in her carseat and go "Sake it up!" It was cute.

That was an awesome film!! Ogre! Ogre! Ogre! Ogre!

I find all these positive comments about the Cars terribly unsettling, not to mention the fact that they are part of the RP playlist to begin with.
This fits snugly within the category of Songs that Fly in the Face of Criticism. You know, seeing as how it reminds me of jr. high and has some unavoidable associations with it. Good ones, to boot. Jr. high school! Good connotations! Yeah, I can't believe it, either. For that miracle alone, the song should rate a 10.

I gave it an 8, but I'm not the first to do so, as the rating scale already showed an 8. Candy-O is by far my favorite Cars album . Most of the tracks on it would get either 9's or 10's out of me. Definately one of my top ten trapped on an island disks. A couple others would be Def Leppard - High And Dry, and Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight
I would have automatically given it an 8, but since it followed that oh-so-annoying Chemical Bros Shake song, The Cars bumped up to a 9.

Wow, this is so... high school. Bit o'the way'back machine there.
You guys have an earthquake out there? Interesting long theme.
bill, i really like the mood you are putting out with this set...
dumb-ass Bimbo rock, gotta love it!
Cars=OK, this song=overplayed by commercial radio...NOT OK..
The "Shake it Up" tour of the Cars (1981) was my first rock concert! I absolutely loved this song and it will always remind me of Freshman year in high school.
can't go wrong with a lil Cars
Wow... now this song brings back some memories. I loved this song in grade school. I always wanted to be one of the girls in the video.
