What amazing Artist they were.

"bummed out city" (global a go-do) and "ramshackle day parade" (streetcore) would  be a bit contemporary?

Inspired from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros's rendition of an old Irish folk song of the same title by Thomas Moore. The song was used at the end of Ridley Scott's film Black Hawk Down which was where I've discovered it. Done entirely in Photoshop CS2.

Finally got Streetcore after listening to bits of it here on RP. This song needs to go back into rotation.

Agreed. Well put.

I like it, it's just a great song, but, in all seriousness, and to be entirely redundant, Marley did it better.
It is such a great song that I always enjoy hearing it, even when the version is somewhat subpar. Sort of reggae's version of John Lennon's "Imagine" -- has that kind of effect on me. Not best suited to Joe's talents, but what the heck.
I'll join the minority here and say ***FANTASTIC***. Like everything else Joe Strummer did, this is wonderful. The mescalaros stuff is everything the clash would have gone on to do had they stayed toghether, makes me sad he is gone now.
silly!
Please make it stop! Whatever I did, I'm sorry! I'll never do it again. Please, please just make it stop!
Excellent choice. That's all that needs to be said.
Not bothered by most remakes but this one sort of grates on me.
His voice is like some weird melding of Johnny Cash and Homestar Runner. And not really in a good way.
I like it, it's just a great song, but, in all seriousness, and to be entirely redundant, Marley did it better.
well, i liked it. plus it reminded me of that old star trek episode where the (not obviously) sentient being they're trying to annihilate says "no kill i".

Sometimes remakes (no matter who do them) don't need to be done. This is a fine example of this.
Sometimes comments only need to be made once. This is a fine example of this. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Please don't play this again, Bill. I'd hate to be remembered for my mistakes more than my triumphs. Let this song fade away and play anything else of his.
Mercy, mercy. Pleeeeease don't play this ever again...

I like all the other stuff I've heard from this album, in fact, I just ordered it. I wish he would have chosen a more obscure Marley tune to cover though, plus covers are best when they are almost totally re-written. I really do not see what Joe Strummer brought to this song, other then himself. I know reggae has been a lasting influence in his career, but that is no excuse.
What other whitebread artist could do such an authentic take on this Marley classic? I'll always be impressed by Joe's ability to meld various musical styles from around the globe.
