As a skinny drug-addled anti-authoritarian of that generation all I can say is {#Moon}

This song is what got me interested in this band when I heard it played on WRNR in Baltimore on a drive down I-95 to Columbia. The quiet dark mood fit the night perfectly. Every time I hear this song I can see the dashboard light from a '76 Ford Econoline.

Agreed. Not only does it sound whiny, to me it sounds NASTY. Like the voice of a skinny, drug-addled, sociopath. It evokes a visceral dislike that I just can't get past. I have no idea what he is really like, but the persona present in that voice for me is really, really aversive.

Memories.  Awesome cd and the first time a lot of people heard the pumpkins.  I love the wha guitar solo in the middle of this song.  I used to rewind to that part over and over.

come to mention it, i did hear billy corgan ruin a lolllapalooza appearance back in the 1990's, castigating and scolding the crowd and playing terrible distortion as everyone booed - forgot about that fine memory. they were great for teenage angst and dreaming, though. they helped me become a motherf*cking ninja.

Jesus Lizard (David Yow) is also a "real jerk" kinda goes with the business, eh? Saw them in Rotterdam in 1992 or 3. He was too drunk/high to stand up and didn't participate in the "music" just yelled obscenities at the crowd. Very disappointing since I did enjoy (if you want to call it that!) their music and that of previous band Scratch Acid. The best of Chicago is (BTW) Tortoise (Prekop), the Sea and Cake, Isotope 217...Thrill Jockey et al.

This is an AWESOME album!!!!..my friend gave it to me when he bought it (back in high school) 'cause he didn't like it...he thought I would enjoy it 'cause it has the Pumpkins on it...BUT it's got Uncle Tupelo, Sarah Mc, Soundgarden,so much great music!

I agree. I normally don't mind some bad singing voices (Randy Newman or Tom Waits, for example), but that Smashing Pumpkins guy's voice is just aggravating. I'll give it a 5 (being generous).
