Here's a name you cannot forget
Her name is Glynis, yes
And with these tears of respect
Conforms a sadness
For anyone who's ever lost
One who's dearest, and the love of a friend

On our worried knees
Given to all beliefs
Scarecrows and disease haunt us all
Ooh, bury your heads in the sand
Ooh, bury your heads

So have we stumbled from grace
Are we being punished for fate
My god is subtle and great
He can't be wounded
By the gossip and the hate of the frightened
Who took their paths on the sand, yeah

Fear that grips us all
Gives us an awful sound
Can't help anything but ourselves
Ooh, bury your head in the sand
Ooh, bury your head, yeah
Ooh, bury your head

Ooh, I believe in one love
Ooh, I believe in one love
Ooh, I believe in one love
Yeah, yeah

Nirvana contemporaries and tour mates who followed a somewhat different vision.
Billy is a visionary responsible for much great music.
As a skinny drug-addled anti-authoritarian of that generation all I can say is {#Moon}

This song is what got me interested in this band when I heard it played on WRNR in Baltimore on a drive down I-95 to Columbia. The quiet dark mood fit the night perfectly. Every time I hear this song I can see the dashboard light from a '76 Ford Econoline.
takes me back. rather enjoyable.

Agreed. Not only does it sound whiny, to me it sounds NASTY. Like the voice of a skinny, drug-addled, sociopath. It evokes a visceral dislike that I just can't get past. I have no idea what he is really like, but the persona present in that voice for me is really, really aversive.

Soothing song, much like Cupid de Locke.

Okay, shame on both of you then.

Memories.  Awesome cd and the first time a lot of people heard the pumpkins.  I love the wha guitar solo in the middle of this song.  I used to rewind to that part over and over.

OH! i love this cd!

and..glynis. nice.
come to mention it, i did hear billy corgan ruin a lolllapalooza appearance back in the 1990's, castigating and scolding the crowd and playing terrible distortion as everyone booed - forgot about that fine memory. they were great for teenage angst and dreaming, though. they helped me become a motherf*cking ninja.

This guy is a real jerk, not to mention his band is wretched. For the best of Chicago try Jesus Lizard, Mount Shasta, Kelly Hogan, Silkworm, ANYTHING but this narcissist.
Jesus Lizard (David Yow) is also a "real jerk" kinda goes with the business, eh? Saw them in Rotterdam in 1992 or 3. He was too drunk/high to stand up and didn't participate in the "music" just yelled obscenities at the crowd. Very disappointing since I did enjoy (if you want to call it that!) their music and that of previous band Scratch Acid. The best of Chicago is (BTW) Tortoise (Prekop), the Sea and Cake, Isotope 217...Thrill Jockey et al.

Shame on me too. I just can't get past it.

The only thing I care about is his MUSIC. I really don't give a shit about his personality. I'm a great landscape architect but people don't equate my design skills with my personality. If they did, I'd really be up the creek!
This is an AWESOME album!!!!..my friend gave it to me when he bought it (back in high school) 'cause he didn't like it...he thought I would enjoy it 'cause it has the Pumpkins on it...BUT it's got Uncle Tupelo, Sarah Mc, Soundgarden,so much great music!

nice tune - I don't much of their stuff - is this a departure for them, aurally speaking?
Hey, Billy, Cubbies season is just around the corner!
Corgan could be singing the most beautiful song in the world and I wouldn't know it because I cannot get past his whiny voice. Shame on me.
This chick sounds like billy corgan! i kiiiiiid, i kiiid!
I don't dislike SP, just Corgan's voice.
Why did I give this a 2? Post-Xmas generosity, I guess.
Hard to find these days. A favorite SP song.
SP... used to be cool. Great song.
I wish we had an alternative...
I totally forgot how much I love this song and album. Man, I need to upload this to the ipod! I love nirvana's verse chorus verse
i like them...

Okayyyyy . . . interesting expression, that. That aside, SP aren't on my list of favorite bands. But I like this better than most of their stuff. It's mostly Corgan's voice that bugs me. And it bugs me less here than elsewhere.
I agree. I normally don't mind some bad singing voices (Randy Newman or Tom Waits, for example), but that Smashing Pumpkins guy's voice is just aggravating. I'll give it a 5 (being generous).
With Billy singing, an 8, with another vocalist, even higher!

Wow, best Pumpkins song ever!
Somehow this song totally lifts my spirits. I really like it.
was this only on this cd? ( I think I have it somewhere)

Yes.
Nr.1: Why haven't I heard this SP-tune before!? Nr.2: Why the hell is "They might be giants" and "No doubt" listed as related albums/artist to this song!?! WtF! 7/10, and yes I'm a sp-fan.

The 90s were mostly great. Smashing Pumpkins was one of the lowlights.
Definately a song to gel to.

RP could probably add 70% of that disc to the playlist. Pretty sweet for a compilation, that's for damn sure.

Yes! I especially like the Buffalo Tom track.
nice crescendo
Like it when he just sings. Nice find - never heard this one before.

totally agreed platy :nodhead: not surprising, though, is it? ;)
The Bob Mould song on that album is also a winner. Good find.
