This is actually a song written by a South African band called "Bright Blue". Their version is infinitely better than Mahlasela's. (See https://www.new.co.za/~currin/bright_blue.html)
I noticed that you have been playing quite a little bit of Vusi!! The other day was the first I had heard of him and did a little search on him. His voice is beautiful! and translates surprisingly well with the world beat sound. One thinks of this type of a tenor singing Irish ballads. I am going to reccomend a listen to my friends into the world sound. Thanks for the introduction.
OK... this is the same vocal, same instr. arrangement as SSQ (Soweto String Quartet) off their album from the mid to late 90's call "Renissance". Who is Vusi Mahlasela? guest vocalist on that album? I'm at work but can't check my CD.. but I'm pretty sure he's not with the SSQ band. But the song "Weeping" I just heard, the strings, arrangement, vocals are all the same. He has recycled this song it would appear for the new album from Vusi. What gives? you guys should be playing SSQ... maybe I'll upload some!
