Inspirtation,
Oh, she barely waits a moment
Elevator doors open
Hear her footsteps touch the stairs

Words walk by
Describing definition
Stop and talk about it

Narcissus
Is just too easy to see
We're always looking
When we see fishes
When we go fishin'

Thoughts meander
Risin' all around us
Rise and fall and rise again
Oh, we stop and talk about it

Strong beliefs
Like ideas come to life
Turn atoms into rain and stone
Sands and tall trees

Worlds passed by
Defyin' description
Stop and talk about it
Talk about it

And Maia, she dances
She dissolves into the light
Illusions of light
Oh Maia, she dances

Deep romance and poetry
Songs and movies
Virtue for la de da
She dances in the light
Dance in the light

Maia, she dances
Oh Maia, she dances

Whats this "Mandalorian" thing you're talking about that came out 21 years ago?
First time I’ve heard a WSP song not knowing who it was and not hating it!

pretty sure it was porcupine tree
but not 🤷
This tune reminds me of my buddy Casey in Chicago... we used to listen to Panic and the Dead and a plethora of other jam bands, and sometimes when we would get drunk - we would laugh and dance with the music loud...  just happy and simple and joyful.
...and I thought they were singing, "Oh, mercy dancers"

Oh Bill... You know we love it when you talk all authoritarian and slightly dictatorial
Then you go and spoil it by talking sensibly for most of your post...

So you've been living in your car since 1994.
You should get out more.

One shouldn't accuse someone of "ripping off" another artist when it may well be the other way around.

the WSP lads came over to party after they played a gig at a Chapel Hill, NC bar one night, circa 1988 until the wee hrs of the mornings, at the time they were a little known Athens, GA band. Gifted musicians and very nice guys. Hatfield was one of my favorites circa 1993 when I was a white water guide on the Chattooga River on the GA/SC border. I got turned on to Big Head Todd around that same time and just saw them play here in SoCal last month. River memories...

WSP show memories.... Just heard Coconuts on the radio up here keeping motivated during lock down. Just saw Big Head Todd in norcal on same tour. They were awesome as was JD Simo. Missing some live shows for sure right now.

There's too much of that in these comment threads anyhow, often from people who seem to know little about music history and/or theory.  It's a damn synthesizer in this song; they've been widely used in popular music for over 50 years.

That warbly guitar or keyboard effect was used a lot by Porcupine Tree hence the similarity that others refer to,
I really love this song! Very moody and emotional, love his voice.

To me this seems like a sound which long preceded either band.  Plenty of bands from the 1960s and '70s had tunes with this sort of mildly psychedelic groove.  I guess we all hear different things though.
LOVE this little ditty. Used to be able to hit all the vocal notes, but could never get the guitar part and the vocals going at the same time.
For me, one of the most eloquent songs I've heard describing the creative process, the act of catching a thought, framing it and putting it down on paper with words. I know from personal experience the origins of this song intimately.

I'm hearing alot of Pink Floyd's Division Bell in this.

It's that strange warbly sound in the background - I think it is an effects modulation on the keyboards.

I keep thinking this is intro to Dear God by XTC. I still like this song too though..
WSP= Good Jam Band. Pardon the oxymoron.

This song is soooo good it puts a spring in my step again this winter day...

on January 27th, Widespread Panic will play in la República Dominicana...

LOVE Widespread MF Panic!

Good tune.  WSP has others I'm more preferable to, but this is a good one.

Lots of JJ Cale influence in their work.
I think this is a pretty good song.

This song is transcendent. It reminds me of a dear friend.. at the same time.. it takes me to another place. *sigh*
pretty sure that this is a night time set list that is just on robot play, but i feels like bill is really doing a set of water theme and in my current state here in japan it just feels right and...weird i guess.

From 'Earth To Atlanta' - 2006

great tune
This song reminds me of a friend who is very ill. She loves fishing, so we listen to this song.. it is so beautiful. 10+++
a perfect follow up to a pair of dead tunes.  i heard once somewhere (who knows where and if it is true or not) that during an interview it was asked of jerry what would happen if the GD ceased to exist?, his answer...WIDESPREAD PANIC

Panic has a terrific range, Country to Rock, slow, fast, they do it all.
Holden Oversoul is my fave!

RP gang.  This station is amazing.  I'm a big time widespread panic fan, and your panic collection has room for improvement.  I think the RP fans would really love some of the other parts of WP's portfolio...  Try "Wondering", "Diner", "Jack", "Surprise Valley", "I'm Not Alone" and on it goes...
waiting for this to end so i can turn RP back on..
Nice tune, great bunch of guys....they hung out at my pad one night after their gig in Chapel Hill, N.C. (UNC) circa '89.....

Always loved their tune "Hatfield" too

You funny!!!

I think this is one of Porcupine Tree's better songs. Wait, what's that? Oh, nevermind.

Er where's the angst?

I really like the sound of this song, the pace, the guy's voice, etc . .  but the lyrics are fairly weak.  Good Tune!

I bought Widespread Panic's Don't Tell the Band because I heard Little Lilly on RP.  I like this band a lot & I'm amazed I hadn't heard of them before.  I played them for my 72 year old mom the other day and she was thrilled!
This song moves me in a special way. The whole album has that kind of affect n me, but I don't know why.

I love this tune.. no clue what it's about but any song that can add the sound of casting and reeling has my vote. And I don't fish.

This is one of the most underrated bands around. Try "Surprise Valley" off "Til The Medicine Takes"..one of the most tremendous guitar lead-ins around. Or "Chilly Water" or "Space Wrangler" off the Space Wrangler album. If sooooo many American Bands sound like this, why dont they have a following compared to the Grateful Dead as these guys do?

Today, too. The funny thing is that everytime I hear it, I mistake it for Dave Matthews and think, well, maybe DM is not so bad after all. Then I look and see it's Widespread Panic.
I love this song and this album...and Widespread Panic!

Funny to me that people always have something wrong with Dave Matthews. And also funny how people for some reason think it is important to compare an artists' sounds to that of another artist or band that they think is a better version of what they're hearing. for instance.... Widespread Panic sounds like bad Grateful Dead John Mayer sounds like Dave Matthews WP is crap compared to Phish Phish is the wanna be Grateful Dead Trey has too much of an ego for Phish Dave has too much of an ego for Dave Matthews Band Dave and Trey play together and its GREAT. moral of the story...too bad Jerry isn't around for Mayer and him to collaborate it can go on and on
Nice laid back relaxing Song. Nothing wrong with that.
