It's a strange day
No colours or shapes
No sound in my head
I forget who I am
When I'm with you
There's no reason
There's no sense
I'm not supposed to feel
I forget who I am
I forget
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia
My dog needs new ears
Make his eyes see forever
Make him live like me
Again and again
I'm wired to the world
That's how I know everything
I'm super brain
That's how they made me

Saw them live several years back -- Allison bust into an operatic vocal improvisation that was nothing short of ethereal -- she is as amazing to listen to as she is to watch.

I heard this while doing chores in my van down by the river, just before I was getting ready to fry another piece of spam on the Sterno stove and do some laundry in the creek.  I had to rush to my Packard Bell 386 laptop and log onto AOL via 2400 baud dialup so I could joyously give this an "8".

Marvelous as always, Goldfrapp earns solid 7, maybe more if my pet ocelot also did not ask for scraps and distract me from my morning routine.

Nah, it was Most Excellent.

Must say I was petting a rat while eating 30c instant noodles in my mothers basement.  Agree on the excellent though.

The more i hear goldfrapp the more impressive RP is the more i despise commercial music radio
Definitely one of the best of its time, and, I think, laid lots of foundation for sounds coming after, and I am grateful for this!
Bjork, anyone? Had to do a double-take to see if it wasn't that wonderful ball of fun from Iceland. Close, though.

Who?

“Fascist baby,” that's a weird mondegreen. I wonder what's she really saying…
Oh.
This album is one of my top20 of all time.  For me, the band went off in the wrong direction with all that glam-rock bobbins in later records; this trippy symphonic stuff is much more in my wheelhouse.
I dreamed last night that I was in a house with numerous other people and a stack of books was handed to me that included Thomas More's Utopia. I awoke with this song playing in my mind. And now I hear it again. What the hell does this mean?  Especially in a dystopian era?!

Should be a 2, but I'll double it for the two images on the cover.

Nah. It wasn't Acceptable.

One of their best tunes, easily!

I'll take a goldfrapp venti with soy please...no ice.

Was she involved with any of the original Star Trek soundtracks by chance?

Put it on the wall of your room, please don't come to defile the page of Goldfrapp with Carnival figures and bully-bucks.

There's a big bag of John Barry hooks swirling around in there. But that is good, because John Barry is ace, and so is Goldfrapp.

Kudos to that! Outstanding in concert. Latest album is to die for (metaphorically speaking)
The cover brings a novel meaning to the term sexy hair.

Sounds quite like pet shop boys style.. before they got absolutely fabulous.  Like.

The UK government's new theme song? Fascist, baby!
Cool melody

I like most Goldfrapp, but this really doesn't do it for me right now.
Still just as incredibly brilliant as the first time I heard it. The "I am super brain, that's how they made me" line gets me every time. {#Eek} {#Propeller}
not  too impressed.  sort of contrived?

@calypsus_1  Stunning photo! I'm just now discovering Goldfrapp and I am mesmerized.

This sounds like it's a Sean Connery-era James Bond theme song written 40 years too late.

Maybe means nothing to you, but I'd have never known what she was talking about except that I've heard Goldfrapp on RP and felt oh so smug  that an old guy like me can identify pieces of young people's culture.  (Thanks, Bill!)

The movie is Hard Candy which is full of uneasy themes.  It does, however show that Ellen Page has tremendous acting talent.

That movie left me in a daze for days.
Really.

Except that Goldfrapp are quality and a positive contribution to the (aural) landscape.

I prefer female vocals too.  But judging rock songs by the quality of the vocals is like judging a book by the way it smells. I'd like to take this opportunity to plug Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  What a voice and what a rocker!

Lovin' the high-end warbling in the background! Reminds me of old B&W film scores.

Brilliant! One of the tracks from one of the best albums ever. Which is not Felt Mountain. Goldfrapp hasn't reached this deep again. But that brilliant album is Q magazine's free "Essential Chill Out"-album. Not that chilling out would be particularly cool or interesting, the same goes in my opinion of the more bliipedy-bloopedy tunes on this compilation, and most free cds that come with overpriced glossy magazines. But this compilation makes the rare exception.

1 Moby - Novio
2 Groove Armada - At The River (Radio Edit)
3 Kinobe - Slip Into Something (Radio Edit)
4 Fairport Convention - Who Knows Where The Time Goes?
5 John Martyn - Solid Air
6 Underworld - Push Downstairs
7 Moloko- Sing It Back (Album Version)
8 Oasis - Half The World Away
9 Nick Drake- River Man
10 Grandaddy - Underneath The Weeping Willow
11 Garbage- Milk (The Classic Mix By Massive Attack)
12 Goldfrapp - Utopia
13 Talk Talk- Inheritance
14 Depeche Mode - Useless (Kruder & Dorfmeister Session-Edit)
15 David Bowie - Art Decade
16 Mercury Rev - Holes

Looking back at what I missed.... I can't believe I had this at only a 6!  It's at least a 9!
