There was tear gas in the poisonjester's mask
Shed a tear, dear, for the clown
Tried to fight fire with water
It went down on the ten o'clock news

I bought the paper and walked back to where I'd parked
The man on the movie theater steps
Can always find his needle
But I wonder where's the thread?

Chorus:
How much more can we bare
'Til the way is paved?
For the revolution
There'll be nothing left unchanged

Tonight I'm tired and I'm worn, so I consent
To cede control to the remote
To wrap me in its airtight void
And keep me from my own

(Chorus)

For the revolution
There'll be nothing left unchanged

We fight just wars and we build just walls
We raise cities and make cities fall
We raise children and we write their names
On granite walls, we don't like losing games

Yep - Wales too!!

Quite. Celtic music is that music which is produced by Celts, which includes folk in Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Nova Scotia, New Zealand, and for that matter the US. There is no celtic genre, but instead an incredibly wide variety of music from a host of backgrounds, which in Scotland in particular fuses into all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations (Salsa Celtica, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Runrig, Capercaillie, to name but a few of many bands in the Scots musical renaissance). If yer man means 'hi-diddly-eye' music then that'll be Oirish, I reckon, but Solas or Cranberries sure don't fit into that genre.

Hang on, this is not Sinead O'Connor?

Streets ahead! Doesn't have the depressing downturn at the end of each phrase that seems to be Natalie's trademark. She sounds much fresher and more dynamic, without any affectations. Very pleasing.
like, like, like...the brit band renaissance from the 70s

I love the album cover photo from the main concourse of the 30th
St. Train Station in Philadelphia. It is one of those beautiful stations from the golden age of train travel.

Nice tune too.

Take your break ... make it a very long one.
Guitarists talk about tone all the time.  Tone, tone, tone.  Gets a little tiresome.  Then I come across a piece like this, with tone that expresses something quite apart from the melody.  Hard to define, but straight to the core.

Your tongue is very nimble, careful you do not trip on it while not really saying anything of value.   BTW, I am none of the things you describe above although I was a borderline hippie.
Oh hey, they are from Philly. I thought I recognized 30th Street Station on the cover.

The Timmins' do just fine with the singer they have, thankyouverymuch.

I heard that too. Love JB - sometimes I have to put him on in the workshop and crank it up. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

I like this too - great voice.

Seen Solas live at least 3x in Minneapolis. Saw Karen Casey solo also, at The Cedar, worlds best music venue. Last time was their Montanta record.
Karan Casey is one of the best vocalists I've ever heard in any genre.

Seen them a couple of times. Solas is a superior band, true instrumentalists with tight vocals. Essbee may be on to something.
annoying melody over time

Cranberryish. Love it!

Gosh, that took a long time to die didn't it.
the lyrics :
'How much more can we bare'
INDEED !
Nice slow-building groove . . .
Like this and their other stuff too.
I recently re-visited a disk of theirs I forgot I had. After a painful listen I cannot remember why I bought or how I acquired it  - and why. There was very little of this style on it...

I was just there for the first time a month ago.  I've seen this photo before but now that I have some reference, it's seems cooler for some reason.

Wiki sez: "Solas has previously recorded five of Duvekot's songs: "Black Annis," "The Poisonjester's Mask," "Erin," "Reasonland," and "Merry Go Round.""

That's a beautiful and moving piece. Mature songwriting that made me feel good inside and out.

Well, this is a sort of hybrid Old/New World group, with American and Irish components. The Celtic influence reaches lots of places.

Somebody kick the MP3 player.  It's stuck.  Bad.
This is actually one of my least favorite songs off this album... I guess I'm just more of a fan of the more celtic stuff they do.
{#Yes} Not that bad...a little Cowboy Junkies, a little Steeleye Span.

What an incredibly wonderful song. Thought these guys were just Celtic. I stand corrected.
My coworker just said that this sounds like snake charmer music.

I will never be able to take the Cranberries seriously again. Thank-you.
EPIC
I love these guys.
Background looks like the trainstation in Nha Trang.
Hotpress says "it's not often that Irish music sounds that much fun". This was not fun. I guess we need to listen to other tracks. The Cranberriness is annoying on this one. Even though I like them.

This is why I contribute to your effort, Bill... you keep me coming back with bands like Solas. Don't listen to the narrow-minded naysayers; you're doing a great job.

Pretty good, but it sure does suffer from following Fairport Convention's Tam Lin. I like this singer, but she's no Sandy Denny. Then again, no one is anymore. Sigh....
Ahhh, good song for Halloween!

So that's the best you can do? I'm siding with the others: Solas is luminous, one nice groove after another. GREAT! Helchat wrote:
really well done!
A wonderful selection.
I love that Solas breaks out of the parameters of what "Celtic" music usually is. I love Celtic music in general, and Solas in particular, and it's wonderful to hear these extraordinarily talented musicians stretching limits.
I remember seeing Solas back in the day locally in Nashville. Speaking of, look for a great Nashville collaboration project with Solas contributing a song or two: https://www.handsacrossthewater.com
I rated this song back in July and I like it even more now!
excellent
nice jam at the end, sounds good with the bass cranked
This is what RP is all about. I'd never heard this band until this song.... its totally captivated me. Fantastic
I don\'t know anything about the band, but this tune really caught my ear. I\'ll keep listening for more!
