Battle cries
We make a swift retreat
Paradise, it don't come cheap
Square up to fight
Like dynamite

The flight is young
We're getting deep
without an aqualung
Our will is strong
We've got to work out where we're
going wrong

Buttercup
I think we missed our turn
Back it up
You think I'd learn
Your gelignite
Sets truth alight

The flight is young
We're getting deep
without an aqualung
Our time is long
We've got to find out
where we're coming from
Square up to the fight
Like dynamite

The flight is young
We're getting deep
without an aqualung
Our will is strong
We've got to work out where we're
going wrong

Light years from here
We're going to burn up
in the atmosphere
It's crystal clear
We're coming swinging
on a chandelier

What did Jethro Tull mean by Aqualung?
Ian's
picture of the homeless man had breathing problems, thus the nickname
“Aqualung.” Anderson said the idea came from the TV show, Sea Hunt, (the
main character wore an Aqualung).

Really?  I have  lived in the UK for  very long time,   and never heard that before.

Skye's voice!!

To be fair, "aqua-lung" is the name of the self-contained, underwater, breathing apparatus which was co-developed by Jacques Cousteau several years before Ian Anderson was even born.  I believe a lot of divers still refer to a scuba set-up as an "aqua-lung"; so, it's not exactly the same as using "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (a unique phrase made up by John and/or Julian Lennon) as a title.  The lyrics of this song refer to that diving apparatus (as does Tull's tune), though it's very likely that there was some sort of homage and/or joke intended by Morcheeba using that word as the song title.

Love her voice.
Her voice, like velvet, playful, mischievous, child and woman (a. s. o.) takes me away. She is like several of my favorite female singers  all in one.
I would give this a 7.5 of I could.
Thanks to all those who cleared up the mystery of the title! 👍🏼

I responded to comments about this song title years ago but you probably have to scroll way down the page to find it.  You may have used the word 'aqualung" if you were a referring to a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (aka SCUBA tank) - which is what these lyrics are referring to.   I imagine they were also making a nod to the Tull song.

I saw your comments way back there when I chimed in, and yeah, I guess I do know the word Aqualung, it's more that it's NOT a common word whereas Angel is.  Again, this only highlights how quickly someone might see the track title and think  of Tull whereas Angel (as a song title) doesn't bring one specific song to mind (for me at least.)

From what I understand, Jacques Cousteau was very fond of diving in the Puget Sound, which surprises many to find out that the cold and dark waters have A LOT of sea life and way more color than one might think.

Long Live RP and our pointless discussions!!
love it !

OP's name notwithstanding, comparing tunes called "Angel" with song called "Aqualung" is like, well, comparing Angels with Auqalungs. I work with an Angel and refer to people as being "Angels" - I don't think I've ever used "Aqualung" in any context other than the Tull song (and this one too I guess.)

This tune gets an 8 from me...the Tull tune a 9....Long Live RP!!

I like Morcheeba. I've heard a few of the other songs that you play once in a while. Thanks for turning me on to the band.{#Daisy}
Great song.
Is this what Jethro Tull would sound like in some parrallel universe? Play "Locomotive Breath" next. Needs more flute and spittle.

I'm not sold on her voice yet. Seems a little too... ordinary. Maybe it will grow on me. Fitting for the tune, I guess, but seems like it needs something a little growlier. Shirley Manson, maybe?

I saw Morcheeba this weekend during the amazing Pukkelpop-festival here in Belgium (www.pukkelpop.be). Although Skye who sings on Aqualung is no longer in the band, the new singer is also amazing. I believe she's called Jodie. One of the songs in the set featured a saxophone solo by this amazing singer. It was pure bliss ! And the 2 brothers were still their funny selves, they were like asking the crowd to throw some marihuana on stage because they ran out of it. No need to tell you what happened next ;-)

Except I'm really afraid that it's because the artists have never heard of the original Aqualung. This is a perfect example of a track that really grabbed me, held my attention, and squandered it.

The original aqualung, invented by Jacques Cousteau & Emil Gagnan in the 40s

Another good song from Morcheeba that it isn't in "Parts of the Process"...
I read a comment here about one of the Morcheeba songs that started out \"Lesscheba please\" and although I didn\'t share the same level of disdain I wouldn\'t have minded less. However, I have to admit that Morcheeba is growing on me and I\'m liking it more and more. This is good.
I like.
Another fine song by Morcheeba. However, to steal a suggestion I saw earlier today regarding another Morcheeba song, perhaps it\'s time to have a little Lesscheeba -- there seems to be a lot of their material in RP rotation these days. (I guess there are a lot worse artists to have in regular rotation . . .)

This song, while being relatively likeable, has been getting more than enough playtime here on RP, IMHO.
Likewise, RP turned me on to the band, then my son (always watching TicketMaster...) told me that they were coming to town. Saw them in Toronto at the Opera House in Jan -- GREAT SHOW! Skye owned the audience that night. A refreshing change from a lot of the crap that's out there now... AJ
I LOVE Morcheeba and I\'m so thankful for RP turning me on to them. I\'d never have heard them anywhere else! Keep playing it!!
