There's gotta be a record of you someplace
You gotta be on somebody's books
The lowdown - a picture of your face
Your injured looks
The sacred and profane
The pleasure and the pain
Somewhere your fingerprints remain concrete
And it's your face I'm looking for on every street

A ladykiller - regulation tattoo
Silver spurs on his heels
Says - what can I tell you, as I'm standing next to you
She threw herself under my wheels
Oh it's a dangerous road
And a hazardous load
And the fireworks over liberty explode in the heat
And it's your face I'm looking for on every street

A three-chord symphony crashes into space
The moon is hanging upside down
I don't know why it is I'm still on the case
It's a ravenous town
And you still refuse to be traced
Seems to me such a waste
And every victory has a taste that's bittersweet
And it's your face I'm looking for on every street
And it's your face I'm looking for on every street

still a 10 and always will be
The guitars  playing at the end just make me smile. Every time! Got to turn it up!!!
This song (esp. the ending) shows the power of the right combination of chords. What a masterpiece!
so glad this excellent tune lives on here on radio paradise!
Yeah come on. This rules

Solid "9" from me! ;))

So glad Mark ditched the ridiculous ubiquitous head band thingee...I think that what drove my dislike of them in the 80's...was creating too much mental association with Loverboy.  So cringy.  Anyways...this is pretty great.  Sorry for the tangent.
Crazy to think Dire Straits' last album is now 30 years old.
I personally loathe the saxophone as an instrument, but in this track is just too damn good.

My Lord ! If this hasn't been the best, most eclectic hour and a half of music I've heard in an eternity!

GREAT MIX !!!
THANK YOU R.P
Such a groove...
So close to perfect...so close.  Tail end of DS too...and they still cranked out stuff this good.  What a band...and what a lead singer/writer/guitar/etc. in MK.
Awesome.
One of my favorite Straights songs, never played on the radio.
Ah Mark 9 for this guy

Well, I think you should take it easy on yourself. But if you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have realized that was a sop sax in the background. Now that I know, this is going on my sax playlist, so thanks!
I love the groove it turns into...

Mark I LOVE YOU!
It just gets better and better.
Love the arragement
I prefer the live version, but I'll take this. 9
Look out, here comes the hook . . . TOO LATE, it's gotcha!
Play Mark Knopfler.  Anytime!

Love the steel pedal guitar. Someone needs to rescue it from its near-exclusive use only in country music.

orgasmic ending.

An amazing songwriter. An incredible player. And all the emotions conveyed in his songs. The man is a master of his craft. A guy I would love to chat with. Play some more from his solo albums please.
Nice to hear a couple cuts the past few days from this somewhat overlooked but excellent album.

Not my favorite song!
Ton of bricks incoming {#Stop} the feels!

Must admit...I have succumbed for this same reason once in a while. I truly think some artists are careless about assigning artwork to represent the music therein. The old days of vinyl and larger album art seemed to lend itself to more attention to the artwork per se. It seems to be in vogue these days to have lazy, careless or sloppy artwork...these days its almost trendy to do something that makes people go..."wuhhhhh?". Ok...soapbox over and done with.

I agree; great song, crappy artwork.
With vinyl making a comeback hopefully there will be a return to better cover art.

And of course not to forget the phenomenal work on the pedal steel by Paul Franklin, the world's best! Especially in the live version from "On The Night"!

I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. Bill, you should play the live version too, from On the Night...
that Riff can go on and on until other Alien creatures hear us in the universe and say: ......lkjljlökjöklkjlkjljljlkjdkhhgdgddg..........
This was the first CD I bought for my first CD player. It evokes fond memories for me.

Just don't understand why they never put out another album..... would be SOOOO welcome

Not familiar with ARCHOS, thanks for turning me on, I avoid Apple products like the plauge.  Delicate pieces of poo they are.

Dear streets.  (Any fans of Pilkington in the house?)
They used this when the TV transmission was bust, which for the BEEB, is a lot.

Well, it is the worst they put out, but  you can't really complain about 18ct. gold vs pure when so many other artists are putting out silver at best.
Pure gold listening😝
A great song from a great album.
A thoroughly under-appreciated album.
FANtastic segue, Bill!!

Sublime.

Pure bliss!
It's Dire Straits - that's nap time for me.   just set me alarm here... {#Sleep}

I'm always amazed that this song comes from an album as recent as '91. It feels like it's been with us forever.

Great album too... From the tongue in cheek brilliance of My Parties to the soaring heights of this. Love 'Straits.
9—>10... Even though I still prefer the On The Night version... : )
I just had the greatest memory of being on vacation in the Caribbean...dining in a seaside restaurant with the wind gently blowing over perfect azure waves...and being enthralled by On Every Street as it played in the background(the wine certainly helped the scene). So beautiful and brilliant, and so agonizing in its desperation. I believe there are many of us who can empathize. Knopfler doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Amazing song. The best of rock guitar ends it. Takes me many places, many streets, thinking of people I know everywhere. What are they doing? How are they?
Issue now is that I listen to RP is I purchase a lot of what I hear. Excellent work Bill.

Mesmerizing ... Knopfler at his best.
Still a 10.
I was working in myheritage.com, adding people to my family tree, when I heard this start with the lyrics, "There's gotta be a record of you some place; You gotta be on somebody's books; the lowdown - a picture of your face..."

I wasn't a big fan until the above albums came along.  Now Knopfler's quitar stops me in my tracks.

I love "Planet of New Orleans" from this CD.  Wish someone more tech savvy than me would upload it.

I like the rising action.
The rest of the CD might have been blah, I haven't listened to it for a loooong time.  This track I thought was superb, especially the outro.

So absolutely true, unless its "Ride Across The Water"
One of Knopfler's best for sure...
Four years later.... !!! I feel the same way !!!!

This riff is TRANSCENDANT ! ! ! ! ! !

wonderful music. simple and great. perfect warm sound. goosebumps.
Bittersweet indeed. Just when the song begins to soar..and we know when that is..it begins to end and WE DON'T WANT IT TO. But I did find live recordings from a few years ago that are close to seven minutes long! On YouTube! AWESOME!{#Bananajam}{#Roflol}{#Mrgreen}

+1! and you probably also want guitar never to stop in last solo..

This what I call Masterpiece.

Marvelous song.   I hear Dire Straits influences in Arcade Fire and The Shins among others.
