Agree. And the stage act of this song is superb there, with Peter tugging the phone cable from the booth, until the returning force put him back. Life's Harmonic Oscillator.

Sinéad was with PG on their WOMAD-USA tour in 1993.  I was at the Milwaukee, WI show - it still may be the single best music day of my life. So much great music.

I saw PG again in Milwaukee with the Milwaukee SO (2010?) and his daughter was the other half of the duet on that night.  More beautiful music.

This verson is so superior to the live version with Paula Cole trying to flex beyond her range. Sinead's voice is so beautiful and is a complement - always love to hear her backing others, as well as her own music. Peter Gabriel is generally interesting, if not sharing his latest self-analysis.

I agree with the others; worst thing I've ever been through.  Would not wish it on my worst enemies.  And my kids were adults.  They and I have an extra-special relationship, perhaps in part because of it.  Help your friend find a little peace to start his journey back.

Aw, that's so great!!  I've seen Gabriel in concert, and it was absolutely amazing :)

How I wish I could attend with my own daughter...how fitting this song is for the two of us.  We haven't spoke in many years, though I'd sure like to.

There's really nothing to defend the length of this song. Way too much repetition and lack of build-up and construction. Just adding more instruments won't do it for me – if I need it at some point I can always dig up Tubular Bells. {#Roflol}

You will find this a lot- same set today. They craft sets with an "ear" toward themes or connections, and well in advance. One or more songs in a row may have night in common, or a producer, or any other thing you might imagine. The main thing is they think they work well together,and I really cannot fault them on any part of the set you reference.

The point is, you will not hear this same set for a while, and I do not think there is even a one or two week loop. Carefully cultivated variety- I love it. And, it gives them a chance to do other things like find more music, make more great sets, sleep, etc.

Bad news if you were hoping for a request line, though. Just not that kind of station.

It's weird, it makes the song strangely anemic compared to the powerhouse that is the live version. (Paula Cole's voice didn't hurt either.)

I love this song, but not this version that is poorly engineered IMHO.
An excellent tune from an excellent album.  He has a unique sounding voice and his lyrics are special.  A real talent from Genesis forward.

I never got why the song on the album fades out (at all, because fade-outs are the weakest possible ending), and given that it does, why it takes around 45 seconds to do so. There's practically half a minute silence before the beginning of "Love to be loved". But still, I give the song a 10. At least the live version does not fade out ;-)
