Always adored this album. Shocked at such a low rating. This is surely incredible music by any measure?
I Agree!
First time I noticed that one of the labels wiki puts on Santana is 'Yacht Rock', never heard that term before.
Anyway, this piece of music is awesome, regardless of how it is classfied.
GREAT TUNE!! I did some research. "Yacht Rock" is soft/ mellow rock, aimed at a middle aged demographic.Inappropriate genre label for this tune!!
here's RP's top 13 and 5 of them are P-Flo. unreal

You should check out The Promise of a Fisherman, off the Borboletta album. (Next after Caravanserai.) One of of the most beautiful and passionate tracks I've ever heard.
Cool! I will! Thanx!

I Agree Completely!! ..."Yacht Rock"?? ...Too Funny!! I just read the WIKI definition, I don't consider it to be a positive complement! ...YOTT Rock -argh!

The whole album is wonderful.
I agree too....only 5 are PF tracks? ;-)
Actually, the biggest surprises to me are 1) no beatles (fine by me) and 2) #11 Echoes...a 22min jam is really almost a 9.5? wow...and that's from a big PF fan!
LONG LIVE RP!
Bill plays too much Pink Floyd.
And Robert Plant

I Agree! One of my top 5 albums of all time.
. . . driving as fast as you can away from it.
Too funny!

Because you are prob. young :)
This record was near of the Jazz rock fusion sounds like Return of forever ( C. Corea ), Mahavishnu Orchestra and Larry Corryel band and some more that I got to know and see in the middle of 70's :)
Makes you strong!
I nominate this post for the Best RP Inside Joke Award.
+1!
Thanks, Bill, for playing this amazing guitarist regularly.
I'd rather eat raw offal.
Makes you strong!
But it was one of the heralds of fusion. And unfortunately fusion turned out to be an evolutionary dead end music-wise, but for about a decade we got a lot of very good music.
I don't think it's that good or that bad. 7
Back in '72, I would never have had the patience to listen to this...
Spring is coming
I must agree!
I'd rather eat raw offal.
Wooo.
An other Santana track that I actually like.
8!
Eternal Caravan
You KNOW Clam Caravan HAS to be next!
Sounds like someone needs a hug!
And find his happy place—perhaps with a Happy Meal!

I also like "Welcome" and "Love, Devotion, & Surrender" in addition to this. Yes, different from the first three, but fine nonetheless.

Same here. Most excellent, IMHO.
Govi - Andalusian Nights ==> The Doors - Spanish Caravan ==> Santana - Eternal Caravan/Waves Within
(sequence) ** 10 **
Yes — another example of why we all live at RP
Caravanserai is a band standing at the top of a musical and spiritual mountain.

Based on that logic, Brittany Spears and Hannah Montana are musical greats too.
Sounds like someone needs a hug!
A bit like making pointless posts to fora, eh? ;-|
This number bores me numb, but that's just personal taste - others will love it to bits. Maybe it is "self-indulgent", but then so is most, if not all, popular music - few musicians go into the trade out of some selfless urge to bring music to the masses, rather they usually make music to express themselves, and if the public like it then so much the better and they become rich. I'm hard-pushed to think of an artiste/band that couldn't be called "self-indulgent". There's always the mute button, mate. Shame there are no killfiles, mind.
Indeed! Always one of my faves since its initial release all those years ago.
But hey William , Guitar solo!!!!!
