The only thing keeping this from an 11 is it’s just too dang short! It’s not hard imagine just how exhausted these players are after bringing it, hard?! Full sprint for a little longer than a world class 800M specialist for the near perfect masterwork of recorded music history, Respeto ✊🏽 !
Easy to say in 2024?! Hindsight makes wisdom keepers of us all; if we’re so lucky 🍀

There's a level of "wait, this is a COVER?!?!?!?" here that no one but (maybe) Jimi Hendrix and Whitney Houston approach in the history of pop/rock music.

It's a nice song, but pales in comparison to the version Otis Redding unleashed on the Monterey International Pop Music Festival. The man and his band were out to kick ass, and they really socked it to the audience.

Indeed!  As Otis acknowledged at Monterrey in '67:

This is a song that a girl took away from me.  Good friend of mine.
This girl, she just took this song.
But I'm still gonna do it anyway.

According to the LA Times:
So Shelley <Aretha Franklin's publicist> graciously agreed to forward our question to her boss. A few days later, a message was left on our voicemail: “Hello, this is Aretha Franklin. Barbara Shelley told me what’s been going on out there. It’s ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care of T-C-B,’ as in taking care of business.”

From the Archives: Aretha Franklin once called The Times to explain some lyrics from 'Respect' - Los Angeles Times (latimes.com)

Taking Care of Business?  That was the name of the Motown TV show that came out the next year.
Haha.  Love that there are slivers of red and yellow on this song.  It takes all kinds.

What a voice!!! There will never be another Aretha.

We're already on Aretha's side on that one.  Note that it's US terrestrial broadcast (AM/FM) stations that are exempt from paying royalties to performers. Internet & satellite stations definitely do pay.

I always thought the acronym was "TCB" - which meant "take (or taking) care of business", even before the BTO song or Elvis Presley's use of the term.
