Well, we know where we're going, but we don't know where we've been
And we know what we're knowing, but we can't say what we've seen
And we're not little children, and we know what we want
And the future is certain, give us time to work it out

Yeah

We're on a road to nowhere, come on inside
We'll take that ride to nowhere, we'll take that ride
Feeling okay this morning, and you know
We're on a road to paradise, here we go, here we go

We're on a ride to nowhere, come on inside
Taking that ride to nowhere, we'll take that ride
Maybe you'll wonder where you are, I don't care
Even when time is on our side, take you there, take you there

We're on a road to nowhere, ha, ha
We're on a road to nowhere, ha, ha
We're on a road to nowhere, ha, ha, whoo

There's a city in my mind, come along and take that ride, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away, but it's growing day by day, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
Would you like to come along, you can help me sing this song, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
They can tell you what to do, but they'll make a fool of you, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
There's a city in my mind, come along and take that ride, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away, but it's growing day by day, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
Yeah, would you like to come along, you can help me sing this song, and it's all right, baby, it's all right
They can tell you what to do, oh, God, they'll make a fool of you, and it's all right, baby, it's all right

We're on a road to nowhere, hey
We're on a road to nowhere, ha
We're on a road to nowhere, ha, ha
We're on a road to nowhere

that's putting it mildly. i switched from the main mix to the rock mix for this reason (well, one example as to why) and it's the same problem on the rock mix.

but, i agree with you - 9 months later, same thing still going on.
still one of my top songs to sing in my helmet while motorcycling 🎶

Hey, it could be worse. You could be listening to Sigur Ros or (way overplayed here) Radiohead.

great album but hearing it just reminds me that the band was in rapid decay by this point. not musically, but as a group they were about done with each other. as much fun as the album is, it just puts me in a funk.

It definitely felt like a step down from the previous albums at the time. The beginning of the end.

Same goes to REM
The first album I ever bought. On tape actually. Greenacres mall in Gqberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth (weather fine)).
Did they just randomly shift into 6/4 time for a moment after "and we're not little children"?
This was an absolute barnburner in one of the best shows I've ever seen.  Byrne and his (mostly brass) marching band show..
This rotates in my private playlist since years. I love this number! Starting with a 9 in my rating.

Actually, they rank #13 on the amount of plays on RP. Look it up!

Who exactly are "the arty middle classes"?
"Well we're" - click. Some sucko-barfo (IMHO, natch) songs on RP are a test of reflexes, and any TH effort gets me hitting mute or next in a split second. The Who have the same effect. Byrne to me comes across as an awful pseudy ponce, for all (because?) he's adored by the arty middle classes.

A lot of the tunes BillG is playing seem to have the "this fits the pandemic playlist" quality to them; must be something about popular music in general.  Long Live RP and stocks of TP!!

Wow Bill is on a Talking Heads roll today.  I think this is the 3rd song in a few hours either by or written by TH - go Bill! {#Smile}
The first time I heard this song was when I was working at The Gap in Edinburgh ... it was on the 'loop tape' that repeats every 3hrs. I loved it the first time I heard it and loved it every time it came on !

One of least-obnoxious TH tracks, but it's still TH/DB.

Insta-PSD to The Moody Blues — Tuesday Afternoon
One of the best tunes ever.

As a kid I found a cassette on the street and there was lots of music on it I had never heard before. This was - among other great 80s stuff like Kate Bush's “Running up the Hill“ - one of the songs on it and I never knew who the band was, because the tape wasn't labeled. That was before MTV or the internet so my only source for music  and info was the radio. That tape was a real treasure.

Ah, happy memories …

the only "Talking Heads" i can bear, but this one i like it ...
a lot
i wonder if TH is not a good illustration of "love or hate" group

This song is worth it just for the hollering at the end: "HAH!! HAH!!" Love that.
This came up in response to hitting the PSD button, and seems ideal as I sit at my desk working on this dull grey monday morning.

Don't be shy!  I gave it a 4.

I admire the chutzpah of a guy making a success of such a hideous voice, and I really like the group's rhythms, but Talking Heads snapped up fresh new shelf space at a time when the listening public was stampeding in horror away from Barry Manilow.  Who could NOT sound good after THAT!

It took me one song - Psycho Killer - on the Max's Kansas City jukebox in 1977 to appreciate TH.

Souvenir Foto assignment No. 7: Forced perspective & Faux tilt shift

I was out in Folsom briefly on Sunday to take my cats to the vet, and since it's not far from nowhere, I drove around looking for a shot that I could faux tilt shit and this seemed to fit the bill. I had fun with the program, and would like to play around with it a lttle more. I think it'll open my eyes to photo opportunities I may not have noticed otherwise.

I haven't been feeling too great this week, so I haven't had a chance to get out to take any other photos. I'm really hoping to be able to capture a forced perspective shot today before the deadline, but even if I don't, my interest in forced perspective has been piqued enough that I'll be doing one very soon, even if it can't be for the group. :)

When I was young I had a 90 minute cassette with Talking Heads Litlle Creatures on one side and Ganggajang's self titled first album on the other.  I had to make a 3rd copy because I destroyed the first 2 by overplaying in my cheap knock off walkman.
Grab a DVD of the movie Stop Making Sense and watch it on a set equipped with good sound. Then you will know the Talking Heads.

Their lyrics may or may not be intelligent/profound or they may just be silly - I'll never know because I can't get past David Byrne's terribly annoying voice. And since I can't really stand the tune or melody, that doesn't really leave anything. Amazing how people's musical tastes diverge.
