Like it but the lyrics are hohum. Repetitive to say the least
Brings me back to the late 90's when BBC's live stream used this in promos

My God, what a shock at the first time...... Not my preferred artist, but this song stays in my memory, don't ask me why !
This still makes me weak. A fantastic throw back.
When I was 13 (1995) we were experimenting with audio on computers. There was a program called Impulse Tracker. We used borrowed bleus LP albums for samples. My musically gifted friend would tune them to the same note height and we would have fun creating sort of Moby like tracks. It wasn't very difficult to get interesting results because the bleus samples gave a lot of atmosphere to the entire thing. I miss those times. Nothing came of it but we had a lot of fun.
Not his best tune.
That's just lazy writing

Just after reading this comment, this song was followed by "The Goat Rodeo Sessions"... is it a coincidence ?

I always though moby was a joke. Rarely did i hear much of him. The reality and RP hit my judgmental character. I rarely enjoy being proved so wrong!
there is nothing that I like in this song.  Repetitive, nothing new, voice is lame, well  PSD for me  bye !
Simple chord sequence. Simple lyric. Complex and beautiful.

I can hear it
you're still in there mixing!
it's such a pleasure
you're really good at it!
i'm a huge fan
Why did I gave this an 8?

I must have been angry.

Easy 10
. Fixed :)
WHY does RP love Moby so much? His music is tedious.
This album has aged so well. His earlier faster bpm stuff pales in comparison and most of his later work has never quite had the same *oomph*. But with this collection he really was touched by grace; still lovely after all these years.
This album is a must have and one of those few that can be heard again and again even as years pass and which remains a good as on first hearing. I love Moby !!!

For better or worse, he mainstreamed electronica with this album.

I love this style of Moby.
I don't pay much attention to the "techno" stuff.
But this, and his other more chilled out tunes, are terrific.

Moby did a remix of the "Mission Impossible" TV Theme a few years back.  From what I understand, it was a rejected submission to the movie.

I went through a Moby phase a few years ago and bought Play, I Like To Score, and Everything Is Wrong.  After awhile, most of it sounds the same and there's some stuff that gets quite annoying.

Me too. Now I have to turn it up and listen. It's an odd, bizarre sound and I really like it!

My son, Josh, loves this song. I've heard him sing it around the house. This is the first time I've heard Moby sing it. I like Josh's version better, but I'm his Dad and he's sitting here right next to me.

Funny, true, and also true of many others; however, that still doesn't reduce my perceived value of this particular track. . .

Sorry, but I have to disagree.
Moby is for middle-aged white people who think they are Getting Down. Like me. I just downloaded the Bourne theme (\"Extreme Ways\").

This is one of the more inspired sampling choices I've heard from Moby, or anyone for that matter. I just LURVE how the beat and sample go together.

ok, this song meant something at the time of his release, something I can't remember because please, stop now, I can't listen to it anymore.... way too much overplayed.... everywhere....for everything...
this has always been my favourite from this album

I don't have much Moby patience at this point in my life, and I realize that the song is just built on one sample... but damn it sounds good.

You don't have to relate the two, you just have to hear them too much. I agree with that poster. I'm suddenly--and I mean just as of hearing this song this very morning--tired of Moby too. -mt-
I'm really not a Moby fan at all, but for some reason this song just works for me.

The voice on this song comes from early recordings of folk songs in the fields-- some of its quality comes from the scratchiness of the recording. The CD is great to do work to, and this song always makes me think.

Good memories from back when this was released. (Spring '99, good times.) However, the album hasn't really stood the test of time for me. Moby's tracks are all very formulaic.
good album - got it!
Great song off a fantastic album. As for the rest of Moby's ouevre... he's just a little too hit and miss for me. But Play (A, and the B-sides companion) is awesome from end to end.

The original track is interesting: totally a capella, just her voice. It's kinda eerie, but moves very slowly. While I sometimes wonder whether more appropriate music could have been used with this, it is interesting at least.
I kinda like this tune....
What is this....blues gone disco? I am sorry, but this is atrocious!!
Love, hate, love, hate........
Stick a harpoon in Moby, he's done. And why is the sampled singer bluesing about "nobody knows my troubles but God...?" Um, hello, at the very least, the 13 people currently listening to you on RP also know way too much about your troubles. How many times do I have to say it: "Think before you sing!"
There was an album out in the last few years on the indie scene with a lot (might have been all) of classic spirituals like this. Anyone know who did it?

Eminem shot back on "Without Me," calling Moby a 36-year-old bald headed fag. At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, Eminem called Moby a girl and said he would hit a man with glasses.
