Wait for hours in the line again
Take your check, go home, and buy your bread
Or maybe down a couple of drinks instead

Don't speak you mind now

And it's time, You want to sleep,
To ease your mind, where nothing runs so deep
and suicide is all you've left to meet
and still you say to me "Bartender, fix me one more drink."

Drink alone with me 'till 5am
She's waiting up to ask you questions
you've no answer but the rise in rent

Don't speak your mind now
You'll wake her child

And it's time You want to sleep
To ease your mind, where nothing runs so deep
and suicide is all you've left to meet
and still you say to me "Bartender, fix me one more drink."

Don't speak your mind now
Cause no one cares
No one's there

And it's time, You want to sleep,
To ease your mind, where nothing runs so deep
and suicide is all you've left to meet
still you say to me "Bartender, fix me one more drink."

Had enough of everything, everything I've had
Big surprise, the years role by , fix me one more drink
Need it all, need some more, needing everything
still you say to me "Bartender, fix me one more drink

(alternate ending)
Had enough of everything, everything i know
Big surprise the years go by and leave you on the floor
needed more, need you more, wanted everything
still you say to me "Bartender fix me one more drink

"P.S." is an apt acronym for this grunge-lite.
didn't recognize the michael stipean phrasings until this listen.

ha... and guess who follows in the rotation?
Used to spend a lot of time in Charlie's Seaside Cafe drinkin' with friends and listenin' to Toad play live.
Why nothing from the new TOAD-CD...?
Miss these guys....A good singalong pop band you're not embarassed to bea fan of. Rare commidity.
.."a toad retrospective"?..would that be a "retoadspective"..?..(*ducks*)..
This is really cool. Love the Toad.

Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle with Toad the Wet Sprocket, has had to have an elbow removed after falling off the back of a motorcycle...

I used to have that whole bit memorized back in 1980.
This is a 7 song in my book. Not bad for Toad. Really dug the REMish vibe, then, of course, Bill follows this with REM.

Wrong.  They are besmirching the reputation of Goleta, the Good Land, from whence they came.

Will go by the good word of the Toad fans who have posted here that this is not a good song to judge the band by.

Otherwise, would not be interested in exploring further.

Sheeeesz, Stingray.  Perhaps you should take a step back, deep breath, exhale....there you go.  Keep with me now...deep breath...exhale...deep breath...exhale.

Now, do they still deserve to die?

It was from a Monty Python skit. In writing the skit they wanted a name that was funny, of course, but also so outrageous that no real band would actually use it. Apparently they came up a little short on the second requirement, though both were true at the time.

Not unlike Death Cab For Cutie, lifted from a song the Bonzo Dog Do-Dah Band was playing in the strip club in the Fab's Magical Mystery Tour video.
Josh Joplin-ish
Totally harmless.

I totally agree, and am a huge Toad fan as well. FYI, they're touring with Big Head Todd (another favorite of mine) for a few shows this summer in CA. It's a little far for me, but I'd love to see such a great pairing. I'll have to see how I can swing a short vacation.
they're also doing their own shows in June... (click here) June 2006 2 - Baltimore, MD - Rams Head Live 3 - Elmer, NJ - Appel Farm Arts & Music Fest 4 - Sayreville, NJ - Starland Ballroom 15 - Indianapolis, IN - The Vogue 16 - Madison, WI - Majestic Theater 18 - Chicago, IL - Toast of Randolph Street

Maybee someone could confirm or deny, I thought I heard a mandolin in this song. It would be interesting if they did have a mandolin.

Tame... but not lame.....
Album cover looks a lot like No Code (Pearl Jam). Guess this is intentional (?). EDIT: Oops. Guess this has been noted 100 times.
Not the best song, but I do miss these guys. Great guitar tones and lyrics.
8O It came from the 90's 8O These guys never got any better. They're simply okay.
Uninspiring.

Putting aside this merely decent song -which was one of those add-ons to get fans to shell out for a best of/retrospective CD - TOAD is one of my all time favorite bands - serious musical and lyrical ability - they can rock out, they can go a little country, they can go dark and moody or light and happy. I'm so glad they reunited long enough for me to finally see them. Now, check out Glen Phillips solo albums, and Todd and Randy's new band, Lapdog.
Saw them several times back during the Pale, Fear and Dulcinea tours.... each time I got to meet them and told Glen I was Donna Summer so he might remember me next time. It never worked...... somehow though, it should have!

The remarks about this band being "like REM" or "too happy" or this song being "generic pop rock" must come from people who aren't familiar with the Toad discography. This song is not representative of their catalog and most of their songs are slower and quieter. Don't judge a band based on one song! I mean, everyone is obviously allowed to have their own opinion, but if I just heard one Pink Floyd song (don't worry, I'm not comparing Toad to Floyd!) and didn't like it, should I assume they all suck? No! We'd all miss out on too much music that way. This band was one of the greats and I wish they were still together. Glen Phillips' solo cd just doesn't measure up to the band's sound.

And when I was a kid, 20 year old music was "oldies." Nowadays 30-year old music is "classic rock?" :-$

They are back together again....I saw them just two months ago at the Vic in Chicago!!

tHEY DON'T HAVE TOO MANY "HAPPY" SONGS DUDE. Listen to them before criticizing. At least know what you are talking about.

They are reuniting. They open in Santa Barbara in Dec, then will be playing some shows opening for Counting Crows, then they will be doing a 20 city tour next year. Go to www. glen phillips dot com. Check it out

I'm sorry, perhaps I should have simply said "I find them to be endlessly annoying and lacking any real musical substance, personally."
That is an odd comment. Most of Toads and Glens solo songs are dark and somewhat depressing, or like previously posted, intospective. Yes, they have a few happy ones, and quite honestly, I prefer their darker, slower songs, but please make an educated critisism. Listen to other Toad. :D

That's sort of a strange comment given that most of their lyrics are, if not dark, at the very least introspective...
\"Rick Stardust, lead electric triangle player with Toad The Wet Sprocket, has had to have an elbow removed following their recent worldwide successful tour of Finland.\"
one of the more underrated bands out there - such a shame they are no more. His is such a comforting voice! "way-too-happy"? They really don't have that many "happy" songs...

I have so many good memories associated with this band, this CD, and this song. I like the song a lot all by itself too. :)
