I can't see you mama
But I can hardly wait
Oh to touch and to feel you mama
Oh I just can't keep away
In the heat and the steam of the city
Oh its got me running and I just can't brake
So say you'll help me mama
'Cause its getting so hard - oh

Now I can't keep you mama
But I know you're always there
You listen, you teach me mama
And I know inside you care
So get down, down here beside me
Oh you ain't going nowhere
No I won't hurt you mama
But its getting so hard - oh

Ha ha, ha, ha ha, ha, argh
Ha ha, ha, ha ha, ha, argh

Can't you see me here mama
Mama mama mama please
Can't you feel my heart
Can't you feel my heart
Can't you feel my heart oh
Now listen to me mama
Mama mama
You're taking away my last chance
Don't take it away
Can't you feel my heart?

Ha ha, ha, ha ha, ha, argh

It's hot, too hot for me mama
But I can hardly wait
My eyes they're burning mama
And I can feel my body shake
Don't stop, don't stop me mama
Oh make the pain, make it go away - hey
No I won't hurt you mama
But its getting so hard - oh

Now I can't see you mama
But I know you're always there
You taunt, you tease me mama
But I never never can keep away
It's the heat and the steam of the city
Oh got me running and I just can't brake
So stay don't leave me mama
'Cause its getting so hard - oh

Don't go no no, don't go
No no no, don't go...

The Magnum P.I. episode is "Death and Taxes." This was the creepy murderer (shudder).

SWAK!
What a GREAT Song, love this!
What a horrible, annoying song!
they should have left this as an instrumental.  I've never heard this before, but before he started singing, this sounded so powerful, really evocative of a large epic stage production, mechanical and atmospheric, full of steam and darkness.  The singing wrecked it, IMHO

Mostly agree although some of Genesis' more pop-oriented works—which seem to have Collins definitely leading the band—aren't bad. I came to like "Invisible Touch" for instance, esp. "Land of Confusion." The video with the Spitting Image puppets was a lot of fun, and the cover by Katzenjammer was great.

Some of the pop hits that I've hated back in the day weren't that bad. It was all the relentless hype and excessive number of plays that got to me.

I'm thinkin Miami Vice.......you know it's 2 a.m...... crocketts driving the black daytona, all brooding and self absorbed...Tubbs is sittin there starin' straight ahead after stuffing shells into the sawed-off......this is playin strong in the background.. intermittent flashbacks to their ex-cop buddy who just took 2 to the ticker......they're blasting thru the deserted streets of cocaine infested 80's Miami.....they're gonna Get those bad guys!!!
i love genesis. i dislike this song very much.

Me too!  A strong 8.  One of the best ex-Peter Genesis numbers.  I found the rating experience rather exhilarating.  Positively 'liberating'.  In light of some of the vehement commentary on this thread......
I Love all the Gabriel Genesis albums, and I feel opposite about Collins Genesis.
This song was used during one of the best episodes of "Magnum PI."

Awe don't. Back in the day he/they ruled... there live shows were awesome. The band was tight with Lee Sklar on bass and Darryl Strummer on guitar and Chester Thompson on drums (except on "in the air tonight"

The lowest of the post-Pete period.
Here is a song I thought I'd never hear again in my lifetime. I distinctly remember when this song came out (I was in high school) as it received a lot of airplay in my neck of the woods.
Trent Reznor could really drill this song!

Wow Wow Fred. Genesis in the studio from 1969 - 1997. Whilst longevity is not an indicator of quality, the band certainly had something going for them. In my view they were certainly a great, original and innovative band certainly up to and including the album, "And Then There Three" in 1978.  Whilst I am not a great fan of Phil, I think he really damaged the band, I am great fan of Peter Gabriel and particularly the music he continues to produce since leaving Genesis.
I've been vindicated.  I like Genesis (with Phil at lead) and Bill plays them so {#Ass}
no.

I loathed, and still loathe, Genesis' output, and until I started listening to RP I'd always associated Peter Gabriel with that pretentious pile of prog, but I now realise that PG did himself a big favour by leaving Genesis and that he's close to a musical genius. Phil Collins, on the other hand, is a self-regarding pillock with barely a musical bone in his body. I loved it when the brilliant and vicious satirist Chris Morris gulled Collins bigtime in the (in)famous Brass Eye 'paedophile special'. Instead of taking it on the chin, Collins was so egotistical that he considered legal action against Morris. A pompous prick of the highest order who's deservedly sunk into the dustbin of history.

Wow, Fred... just wow.  Tell us how you really feel.

Phil Collins was one of the heaviest handed drummers in the business back in the day.  Eric Clapton tabbed him to do all of his drumming in the mid-80s.  This while he was having incredible successes on his own as a solo artist and with Genesis.

Even though you don't like his work with Genesis, he did guide the band to phenomenal success in the 80's.  Duke, Abacab, Genesis, and Invisible Touch (all albums that he was integral in creating with the band) ALL went #1 in the UK.  His solo albums Face Value, No Jacket Required, and Seriously Folks...  ALL went #1 in the UK.  No Jacket Required was the Grammy winning album of the year in 1985 and featured 3 #1 songs in the US.  No other artist had as much success in the world in 1985.  In the Air Tonight is one of the most iconic songs of all time.  We get it that you don't like a particular type of music but you are WAY off base saying that Phil Collins has "barely a musical bone in his body".

As for Brass Eye... I can't imagine why Phil was upset.  Everyone likes to have a good paedophile joke played on them, don't they?!?

BTW:  The reason Phil doesn't play anymore is that he has damaged vertebrae in his neck and can no longer use his hands properly.  It's probably just karma because he is such an egotistical, pretentious, and pompous prick.

At least we agree on Peter Gabriel.  That is something!
I love the extended versions even more.
I had a hard time believing this was Genesis sans Peter Gabriel!  Surprisingly good!
Now I remember why I hate Genesis. Ha-huh-huh.
Genesis wrote this after listening to Einstürzende Neubauten and  Grandmaster Flash.
Phil = Lame
What a surprise, but not the pleasant variety for me. 5
Bill you just be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This tunbe is one more perfect definition of SUCKO-BARFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry you feel that way.  Phil's drumming is some of the best ever recorded.  I dislike almost all of Phil's solo output, but his work with Genesis is brilliant.

Listen to more of their pre-1986 output and you may find yourself giving out that rating a lot more!  :)

Phil gets a bad rap for Genesis' 80s stuff - but they did a lot of great Rock music.

"Get-Over It" the fact that Peter left.

Perhaps this song is now considered an historic oddity.

Not a bad song, except for the part that sounds like a cross between a laugh and an up-chuck. Seriously, what did he think that added?

Phil got the idea from Grandmaster Flash's "a-haha-ha-ha" laugh in his song The Message, he was doing a riff on that with a more sinister vibe (he's said this repeatedly in interviews).
Not a bad song, except for the part that sounds like a cross between a laugh and an up-chuck. Seriously, what did he think that added?
Such brilliant musicians. Such a waste of talent from the "Then they where tree album" and later. Going from prog to pop to puke. No difference between Collins solo stuff and Genesis post 70s.
Ha Ha, Heh Heh

If only Phil Collins had kept Genesis going in this direction. I didn't mind his middle-age nostalgia trip per se. But he never should have let down his bandmates by turning them into backup musicians for his solo act.
Listening to this today, it's hard for me to imagine that I liked this stuff back in its day.
Summers at the beach and Genesis albumns on the turntable
genesis was bad enough when peter gabriel was involved...
You can say what you like about Phil Collins but there aren't many who can pull off what he did in this song. Awesome song, shame that a poor mp3 rip of it is being played.

Wow. Perfect summation.
Sounds like he could use some Mucinex.
I sure do hate Phil Collins.
Awesome!
Great Song! Was a big fan back in 80's.
My 80's hangover....
this sounds like a really bad mp3 rip!
Ha-ha Heh! Ha-ha Heh! Ohhhhh!!!!
