You showed me how to do
Exactly what you do
How I fell in love with you
Oh oh, it's true
Oh, I love you

You showed me how to say
Exactly what you say
In that very special way
Oh oh, it's true
You fell for me, too

And when I tried it
I could see you fall
And I decided
It's not a trip, at all

You taught it to me, too
Exactly what you do
And now you love me, too
Oh oh, it's true
We're in love, we two

La, la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
We're in love, we two
We two

You showed me how to do
Exactly what you do
How I fell in love with you
You taught it to me, too
Exactly what you do
And now you love me, too

And now you love me, too

And now you love me, too

And now you love me, too

And now you love me, too

And now you love me, too...

For the curious, that's the Liver building in Liverpool in the background, though fair to say that the river Mersey isn'tideal for surfing:o)

The Seeds are proud Liverpudlians, Scousers DOC as Italians would say.

The Flo and Eddy version is much creepier....

LOL...  Still like it 3 years later.

Reminds me of the ridiculous surfing scene with Kurt Russell (as Snake Pliskin) and Peter Fonda from Escape from LA.

Really?  Based on what?  You may not have seen very many album covers if you think this one is among "some of the worst".  There are thousands of album covers with infinitely worse cover designs.

The Caesars - Jerk It Out

Notic
Can't beat the Flo and Eddie version.
There really needs to be a rating between Quite Likeable and Most Excellent. There's a Pretty Good... why not a Really Good or equivalent that takes a song byond the "oh that's rather nice, dont you think?" of likeable but not quite to the lofty heights of excellence. 7.5
Great cover art!
{#Devil_pimp}wheres flo and eddy ?
outstanding!
The beat sounds like The Doors - Moonlight drive
Yes it is,  only in another era..The Byrds did it as well    hippiechick wrote:

As a whole, I always felt I ought to like Lightning Seeds better. But I don't, they just feel a bit... I don't know. Lightweight?  Whiney? With lyrical lines as good as some of theirs I really should be loving them.
Oh it started off promising, but am I the only one who felt they turned into whingeing by the end? Almost like a parody?

Amen to that.
Loved the original....and this cover is growing on me.

I heard it too! Came here to see if I was alone...but of course not

Edit: Looks like they sampled the same Turtles song. Makes sense. It's a good riff!
Like this version-   {#Jump}

On the outside chance this question isn't a TIC comment, Mark "Flo" Volman and Howie "Eddie" Kaylan were essentially The Turtles. As The Turtles they did the original recording of the Clark/McGuinn tune. They later recorded as Flo & Eddie. Clear as mud? {#Lol}

I have no idea why this song sounds so familiar to me, I was reading the Wikipedia entry to this and it shed no light.  I would never have guessed it was the Lightning Seeds.

Nice. . .

This is a good cover but I prefer the original..

Yes, the De La Soul song samples the original by the Turtles.  I believe that led to the first case of a hip-hop artist being sued for use of a sample.

The original is in the playlist, but hasn't been heard since 2004!  Bill!!  Unconscionable.

I still have mine. Remember the artwork on the sleeve? It had them all standing naked with appropriately place leaves in certain areas. Mark Volman is not a pretty man with his clothes on, let alone naked.

Lovely!
You can drop the vocals in this version and end up with a nice Cirque du Soleil instrumental!

That's because the SBsofL ripped the riff from the Turtles tune. That drooping (sloping? slooping?) string line is really the only good thing about these three songs.
Indeed.

Pretty good song. Btw, did you know they got their name from Prince's song "Rasberry Beret"?

What a great cover--and great band to do it! The little sliding riff reminds me of the one in U2's "The Playboy Mansion."
yes, bingo! I'm a U2 fan but when I first listened POP in 1997 I immediatley think the same thing; lightning seeds done this one 1/2 years before
Nice groove.

Wait, aren't we supposed to pretend "Pop" never happened?
I just read that they are reforming and they're gonna tour.
Pretty good
Exquisite.

Definitely agreed. I turned up my speakers thinking I was hearing Morcheeba. Similar cool and calming rhythm. I dig it.
This is so much like the original that it's spectacularly awful.
Dianyla wrote:

I was just going to say that.
Opening bars, I thought it was Tom McRae's For the Restless... Nice song.

Isn't it luvly to hear some Lightning Seeds at RP. They are a great band, with interesting tunes and the voice of the singer. Good music to make your day better!
*groovin'* I think I like this...enough like the original to preserve what I liked about it, but just enough updated that it sounds fresh. */groovin'*
This is really a great cover, one of the few covers I like....they even sound a little like the original. Thumbs up!
Wow! Way cool Turtles cover! Follow it up with some Zappa era Flo and Eddie and we got something cooking!
Yet another FLAMING LIPS sound-alike! Not bad on its own. A6.
This is the wierdest thing I've heard in months. Not sure if I like it, but . . . it's unforgettable, give it that.
This is an old, but goodie. I like this remake. (The memories are even better.) I like it when people take the better tunes from our generation and find a bit of interest in the music. Thanks!
What a great cover--and great band to do it! The little sliding riff reminds me of the one in U2's "The Playboy Mansion."
I have always really liked the original AND I am a big fan of this cover version. I disagree that this version adds nothing to the original concept of the song. The electronic nuances of this version are subtle, but they really add to it. I also like the vocals.
I like the song, so my rating is skewed by that. But I wonder why this one was recorded. It doesn't really add anything to it that makes it worth listening to instead of the Turtles'. MT
