The magnificent seven
Ring! Ring! It's 7 A.M.!
Move y'self to go again
Cold water in the face
Brings you back to this awful place
Knuckle merchants and you bankers, too
Must get up an' learn those rules
Weather man and the crazy chief
One says sun and one says sleet
A.M. and the F.M. the P.M. too
Churning out that boogaloo
Gets you up and gets you out
But how long can you keep it up?
Gimme Honda gimme Sony
So cheap and real phony
Hong Kong dollars Indian cents
English pounds and Eskimo pence

You lot! What?
Don't stop! Give it all you got!
You lot! What?
Don't stop! Yeah!
You lot! What?
Don't stop! Give it all you got!
You lot! What?
Don't stop! Yeah!

Working for a rise better my station
And take my baby to sophistication
Seen the ads, she thinks it's nice
Better work hard I seen the price
Never mind that it's time for the bus
We got to work an' you're one of us
Clocks go slow in a place of work
Minutes drag and the hours jerk
Yeah wave bye-bye

'''''Spoken:'''''
"When can I tell 'em wot I do?
In a second, maaan...
oright Chuck!"

Wave buh-buh-buh-bye to the boss
It's our profit, it's his loss
But anyway the lunch bells ring
Take one hour do your thanng!
Cheeesboiger!

What do we have for entertainment?
Cops kicking Gypsies on the pavement
Now the news has snapped to attention!
Lunar landing of the dentist convention
Italian mobster shoots a lobster
Seafood restaurant gets out of hand
Car in the fridge
Or fridge in the car?
Like cowboys do in T.V. land

You lot! What? Don't stop give it all you got
You lot! What? Don't stop. Huh?
You lot! What? Don't stop give it all you got
You lot! What? Don't stop.

So get back to work and sweat some more
The sun will sink and we'll get out the door
It's no good for man to work in cages
Hit the town he drinks his wages
You're fretting you're sweating
But did you notice you ain't getting?
You're fretting you're sweating
But did you notice you not getting anywhere?
Don't you ever stop long enough to start?
To take your car outta that gear
Don't you ever stop long enough to start?
To get your car outta that gear
Karlo Marx and Fredrich Engels
Came to the checkout at the 7-11
Marx was skint but he had sense
Engels lent him the necessary pence

What have we got? Yeh-o
What have we got? Yeh-o
What have we got? magnificence!
(Spoken) I say
What have we got?

Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi
Went to the park to check on the game
They was murdered by the other team
Who went on to win 50-nil
You can be true, you can be false
You be given the same reward
Socrates and Milhous Nixon
Both went the same way through the kitchen
Plato the Greek or Rin Tin Tin
Who's more famous to the billion millions?

Fantastic segue BillG!!! Obviously love this Clash!!! 10
This version along with the other versions of this song are overplayed IMHO.

Had to scroll through 2 years of comments to find the original and revive this. So worth it.... heh...
Important album - yes. Amazing song - f yes Ok, so find a quiet moment and JUST listen to this. Quiet on either side. No one did this in the 1980s. Listen to their flow. F’ing amazing MM
Turn it up you lot!
One of the most important rock album since the beginning........
See. Now that I can read the lyrics, this song makes a lot more sense.
Can we be done with this burger meme please - it's cute, but silly; this powerful song deserves a bit more reverence IMHO.  Pretty sure Mick & Joe would not find it so amusing.

I listened to this entire record for so long the needle cut all the way through the grooves and I had a spiral ribbon of vinyl come off the turntable.

Made me smile. Thanks!
Always wondered what Budgie's back story was.
Ah - just realized Budgie is a kind of parakeet!
Not one of my favourite Clash songs but I just read the lyrics and like it better.

Sorry, but for me this is so silly for such a powerful song from the Clash (I don't thing they would find it amusing at all).
 exjunkie wrote:

Because people were PISSED after suffering through disco! ;)
I know there's a lot of love for The Clash, but this is mediocre.  There are many far-better Clash songs that you could offer up, but this really sounds like they phoned it in....

It trivializes an important and powerful song (one perspective)
Yeah, I dug this the most but it just hasn't held up too well, innit?

Really not sure how you get disco out of this.

It is danceable though!

There's some uptight folks who don't like seeing animated GIFs in the song comments for some reason. *shrug*
At first listening, I thought the lyrics said: "The vacuum cleaner sucks up budget." I was a bit disappointed.

That's every day on RP.
Listening to The Clash today, I'm surprised at how much of a disco beat is in their music.
Great playlist today!
great to hear this again brings back memories
So many memories inside this song. God I wish I could jam on the dance floor like the old days. Image result for seven
Definitely one of their all time greatest tunes (among many)!
Very strong 9 to me, considering 10

Listening to it makes me wish for an instrumental version.
Any audiophiles out there:  The Clash on HiDef is excellent - you would never have thought.  I got the "greatest hits" collection off HD Tracks and it's quite impressive.  Of course it includes this tune that I even use for auditioning equipment now....who knew?!
damn, he's a rhyming fool, I wonder if he can break dance too
might be my favorite Clash song.
Did they invent Disco Music? Mwahahaha! {#High-five}

{#Roflol} Was there ever a 12" version back in the day?

"The Magnificent Dance", released on 12 April 1981 by CBS in 12-inch single format, is the dance remix of "The Magnificent Seven". The maxi single was released in the UK featuring an edited version of "The Magnificent Seven" on side-A, and in the U.S., where it was backed with the extended version of "The Cool Out". It is credited to "Pepe Unidos", a pseudonym for Strummer, Paul Simonon and manager Bernie Rhodes. "Pepe Unidos" also produced "The Cool Out", a remix of "The Call Up". This dance version "definitely capitalized on the funky groove of the original, adding in some very cool drumming."
All my early teenage years, trying to self-learn English by rapping on this song, as well as on the instrumental versions of Grandmaster Flash's The Message and Sugarhill's Gang Rapper's Delight. Still having gooseskin when hearing that particular sound of bass and guitar. Eternal.
Redefines adequate.

That's not how I'm reading it. At least not the dig, just irony.
The original white boy reggae rap.
Rated it at 7. A good, solid, magnificent 7.

Nobody is happy with Rolf today.  Seems "innocent until proven guilty" does not apply in the UK.

edit: definitely guilty and becoming more so by the day.

first time i head this album I was on mescaline.  I can still feel the beat taking over my nervous system.  Thanks too "Ed the Lock."
I like this song even better after reading the lyrics, which I'd never completely understood. Interesting stream of consciousness.
