You can hold her hand, and show her how you cry
Explain to her your weakness so she understands, and then roll over and die
You can brave decisions, before you crumble up inside
Spend your time asking everyone else's permission, then run away and hide

Or you can sit on chimneys, put some fire up your ass
No need to know what you're doing or waiting for, but if anyone should ask
Tell them I've been licking coconut skins and we've been hanging out
Tell them God just dropped by to forgive our sins and relieve us our doubt

La la la la la la la...

Oh you can hold her eggs, but your basket has a hole
You can lie between her legs and go looking for, tell her you're searching for her soul
You can wait for ages, watch your compost turn to coal
Time is contagious, everybody's getting old

So you can sit on chimneys, put some fire up your ass
No need to know what you're doing or looking for, but if anyone should ask
Tell them I've been cooking coconut skins and we've been hanging out
Tell them God just dropped by to forgive our sins and relieve us our doubt

La la la la la la la...

Ask The Beatles (Hey Jude) or Simon & Garfunkel (The Boxer).

Normally I would agree, but I'm not sure that more lyrics like these would help.

DISLIKE!
Always love Damien. This song is easy listening and good to hum along to, however doesn't really make clear use of, or display, the full extent of this genius' talent.
Come back Damien.  I need another perfect album like the last 2.
Classic 6

And what is coconut-skin?

Not that I have no idea - but given the medium age
of our female-listeners - I keep mouth shut!

SONG means absolutely nothing to me!
With and without coconuts!

How did you not realize you typed that entire thing in all caps; even the part where you tried to emphasize the NOT in caps, but they came out tiny? Seriously.

Excelsior, man, why do you torture yourself?  You don't like much of what is played here, obviously.  There are other music sources, and surely there is one that would make you happy.  In the convoluted and paraphrased words of PhysicsGenius, only 10% of the RP lineup is crap, but you seem to find it to be 90%.  Seriously, I admit to having made my share of snarky comments, but, with all due respect, you seem heavily inclined toward bile.  Maybe you're in the wrong place.  Speaking for myself, you are welcome here, everyone is, but really, can you ever say anything nice?

Geecheeboy - having surveyed Excelsior's top rated songs - he seems to have found a pretty solid RP selection that he likes.  He's just more vocal than most of the stuff he doesn't like.  Keep cool Geecheeboy!!

I think the thing that keeps you, Excelsior and me coming back is the pure variety - its not always what we like, but Bill provides a balance of comfort and pure surprises that allows us to all to put RP on the top of the list of "stations" we play.

I have yet to hear a Damien Rice song that's actually listenable. Ugh.
I gotta tell you, when you play this song live people just LOVE It. Even people who never heard it before love it......
Someone hijacked the width of the site.... ontopic: Not my song...
Thank you! What a dose of reality!!

That's it. Difficult to keep up the standard.
I'm with you. I'm just not feelin' it. Too much repetition or something?

This is annoying the shit out of me.
Man this is bad.
This is not Slayer.
he really should stop contributing to the landfill problem
How I miss Taumata whakatangi hangakoauau o tamatea turi pukakapiki maunga horo nuku pokai whenua kitanatahu. Anyone else think the same thing?
At first I thought this was Ryan Adams, that's how good it is.

Prob'ly a reasonable song, but I was still in the afterglow of Taj.
I like Damien Rice, saw him live, and was captured by the energy. This song is umm ... lyrically tired, trite. His voice is still yummy, but sheesh, time to go back to the drawing board for the lyrics.
Please play The Blower's Daughter by this artist.
I love his "O" album. His new stuff is a little clumsy I think. This still gets a 7
I liked it...but doesn't seem to go anywhere. Oh well....it's where music takes you.
I assume that's Samantha Parton of The Be Good Tanyas on backup? Even so, this tune really doesn't seem to go anywhere. Just decent, at best.

but has anyone seen David Gray lately, i could have sworn i just heard him....
Saw David Gray last year. Love his earlier, stripped down stuff, especially Birds without wings. Live, he seemed very happy; wobbly head, lots of shiny energy, lots of musicians, and he might as well have been on tv . Sad. When he asked us to wave our phones in the air I wished I had stayed at home. Hope he finds again the man who wrote: "wishing that something would happen a change in this place 'cos I'm tearing off the fancy wrapping find an empty package"
HAHAHAHAHA That cartoon is so funny!! Consider the world as your fieldoffice! Damien Rice could be playing live somewhere!

Gives himself a "9", does he? I'll show him....
Mr. Rice doesn't generally appeal to me, yet I liked this song the first two times I heard it last week. Hearing it every single solitary day reminds me that Mr. Rice doesn't generally appeal to me. From now on, I shall associate it with the misery of tax season.
This guy really should team up with the guy who used to front Del Amitri.
If you bought tickets for his summer tour make sure to check to see if the location changed. The San Diego location changed, and we have to go and switch our tickets to the new venue.

YOU JUST ROLL OVER AND DIE!LA LA LA LA LA
Sounds like a less nasal David Grey (Gray?). Very nice
Although "9" is lacking in quality when compared against "O", this song is one of the absolute best he's recorded across either album. A 10.

Obviously not, we're still awake but has anyone seen David Gray lately, i could have sworn i just heard him.... BTW a few nights ago i saw Damien's old band Bell X1 opening (acoustically) for The Frames. Bell X1 were awesome and if they didn't get a new singer in than this was an extremely gifted band (to have had both Damien and the current singer) And The Frames just played the roof off the Oosterpoort in Groningen, unbelievably excellent

How many syllables in ass anyway?
As Damien is a good Irish lad, that would be 'arse', so at least he's got another letter to play with when trying to make the word stretch.

The lalalas sound like a cold car starting up in winter. How many syllables in ass anyway? Nice song.
uplifting, chin up, sharpened eyes, straight back, watered eyes, loving nostalgia, calm sadness, deep smile, all inspired by coconut skins
pretty good song, but the la las are annoying

I think this is what we'd hear if the lead vocalist of The Be Good Tanyas was a dude. Almost.

Thought it was Nils Lofgren singin' there for a minute...
I saw him and Lisa perform 9 crimes on Jay Leno the night after Christmas (a repeat). It was amazing. I've watched it over an over again on youtube. Very sad song, but just amazing.

He sounds like an "open mic night" favorite at the local watering hole.
"time is contagious, everyone is getting old" dry and wry - ouch, la la la indeed.
Decent tune, but that has to be the worst "la la la" chorus I've heard recently.
Another great album from Damien - love it I'm looking forward to Lisa's solo album next year.
man this is a tough crowd for damien. two of his songs RP's played just get trashed. what's the deal? they're absolutely great songs. hmm...conspiracy theory....

What happened? The "O" album was awesome. I hope this grows on me.
