Thomas Lauderdale is so great! My bestie went to school with him. Says he has always been an outgoing, energetic musician. A local role model here in Portland, OR.

I don't hear that much other than the minor key and the so-called "Afro-Cuban" rhythm, but anyhow, it's the other way around.  This song (originally titled "No Problem") was written by Duke Jordan (aka Jacques Marray) and recorded by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1959 or '60, for the original soundtrack to Roger Vadim's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses".

Living part of the year in Portland, I've been getting a regular dose of Thomas Lauderdale & Co. for decades. I can't shake the impression that they are a pale shade of their source material. Congrats to them for building a sound and growing empire - but if I want modern tiki lounge, gimme Michael Giacchino (or the original Lalo Schifrin stuff)

Off to see this band with tremendous Australian comedian Tim Minchin at Kew Gardens a week from Thursday.  Myself and an Australian friend were convincing a German friend of ours to come see Tim.  She was almost in anyway and then we looked it up and saw it was a pink martini/Tim Minchin gig.  Our friend is a massive Pink Martini fan so that worked out well for all.  Fingers crossed for a fine evening but waterproofs on standby already because I've lived in the UK long enough to know.

This is one of the best songs on what I think is one of my top 10 albums ever. What is so cool about it is how many people ask about it when they are over and it is playing. I have turned a bunch of other people on to Pink Martini without even trying. Didn't like the follow up albums as much, though I still enjoy them.

Thank you Radio Paradise for introducing me to Pink Martini! Best concert at Richmond symphony in April 2007. Tom Lauderdale is a musical genius to bring this diverse band together.

After performing in Chico they hung out in the street, met the fans, and smoked cloves. They put on a delicious show and told strange stories. However, this track is a little bland compared to some of their racier stuff.

The Coctails! I had forgotten all about them. I saw them play a bunch of times in Champaign IL in the early 90s. They were fantastic. Unfortunately I think I only had them on vinyl, and I wouldn't even begin to know where to look for it now, even if I had a way to play it. Someone please UPLOAD SOME COCTAILS!
