Well the sound of your voice on the telephone
Make me feel distressed
Make me all alone.
Why do I feel so incomplete?
When you're not here I'm just obsolete.

My bed is burnin' all through the night.
You're the only one that can make me feel right.
Try to lay down my sleepin' head
But I'm tossin' and turnin' around instead.

I love you like a ball and chain.
(Make it alright now.)
Love you like a ball and chain.
(Feels too good.)

I'm a fool I know but I'm stuck on you.
I'm a fool I know and it's makin' me blue.
There's a river of blood.
There's a river of tears
I've been wasting all these years.

I love you like a ball and chain.
(Make it alright now.)
Love you like a ball and chain.

Ugg, I dislike very few RP selections. But this is at the bottom.

I was 24 and because I worked in an Alaskan music store with a manager who actually paid attention to current music; oh yes, did the Eurythmics blow my musical mind.

Alaska was always behind the 'current times' in fashion, vehicles, news, but when Pipeline arrived, in came Permanent Fund checks and you could actually spend 8 bucks on a cassette.  I spent plenty.  My bunch of rough  way out in the woods AK friends did as well, and we rocked beyond what was sane...or it kept us that way.

Cool Story.  Thank You for sharing it.

The sound got really weird on a mono bluetooth speaker, fading in and out almost to silence during that part. I guess that’s an artifact of the extreme phasing in the mix.

Or more to the point... It was not meant to be heard in mono.
I like it better now than I did then.
And, struck me that the guitar work is reminiscent of Prince’s.
Great Tune! But, the recording sucks!

Saw them at the Greek Amphitheater in Berkeley with Thomas Dolby opening.  Unforgettable and outstanding.
Paris, 1985, honemoon: buy "Be Yourself Tonight" on the Champs-Élysées in (what was then) a high-end CD store (RCA Records, pressed in Germany). Thank the lord that a CD didn't wear out the grooves of this tune -- which is still in my playlist 35 years later.
Awkward bugger that Dave, but could produce the shit out of pop music. Listen to that Shakespeare's Sister album in headphones. It takes acid to produce that level of attention to detail and space and balance.
This was at the first of CD'S  the sound of this is not what the original was.
This song has not aged well.
I woulda given them 5 bucks to buy some lyrics
AC/DC like foxy pop with a dash of Prince!  Fun little number imo

But with talent...and nicer legs!
The stereo effects at the end of the song are, uhhhh, interesting ... not in a good way.

I own this album, and this is not a good song - simple as that. Anyway, I think they weren't into making "albums", they were a kind of early 60es act: they would make great singles but when it came to the CD, you couldn't notice the difference between songs born to be hits and those meant to be fillers.

Are you listening in mono? The music is oscillating between left and right channels.

it "moves" from the right to the left speaker it's not their best song but I like it
Another education from RP. I had no idea the Eurythmics--generally a great band--made any noise so irritating. Yikes.

Can this chick sing or what, and this doesn't even sound like eighties music, both of them are very talented. She can write and sing like a bird and he can play a bad MF guitar. I hated their stuff from the eighties, but I liked the stuff after. Like Bare from Anne.
I've never understood the negative comments about this band. I always thought that they had a great vibe and Annie sings with such passion and soul. A great break from most of the other 80's swill that we had to suffer through.
This is a great album. I'm surprised at the low rating on this song! Oh well, to each his or her own....
I only ever heard their radio/greatest hits tracks so this one is new to me. Not bad at all.
