I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night
because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
behind a cigarette

And the message coming from my eyes
it says leave it alone

Don't want to hear about it
every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it from the Queen of England
to the hounds of hell
And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear,
but that's what I'll do

And the feeling coming from my bones
it says find a home

I'm going to Wichita
Far from this opera forever more
I'm gonna work the straw,
make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I'm pleading, and I'm pleading,
and I'm pleading right before the Lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
and I will think no more
And the stains coming from my blood
tell me go back home

All bios of this group should note the HUGE popularity of this tune's opening riff among sports fans.  And it is not just soccer fans--I have heard the chant at other US sporting events!
böse Gitarren
TURN IT UP!!!!

And the SKALD cover is just as good!
"And the feeling coming from my bones  it says find a home"

thumping drum beat

"The representative from California has the floor"

I keep hearing that every single time
8 for the song, 9 for becoming high in a soccer stadium.

So you all please quit anointing these average guitar players. They are not that good. Geeeeeeeez.

Not quite an illusion, just some electronic FX to make Jack's guitar sound like a bass, and that's why you hear a bass line.

It doesn't actually sound like a bass guitar. Bass strings are so heavy and thick, they don't vibrate as freely as guitar strings and damp themselves quickly. Compare super-slinky guitar strings against thicker metal acoustic guitar strings.

You can hear the "melodic" sustained vibration of the guitar strings very clearly during the latter part of this song.

On that album cover,  it looks like Jack just finished bopping Meg with that white wiffle bat! She looks sad......... she should call the 7N Army to bop Jack

Unfortunately, your argument is basically the same one we've been hearing from older generations since the beginning of time: "the music was better in my day!". I think that the truth is that guitar-based-rock is not a dominant force in popular music anymore so today's "great" guitar players are just not showcased in the same way they were in "our" day. You have to go look for them and RP does a great job of helping us old people find them.

I didn't truly believe the White Stripes only had two members until I saw them perform live in 2004. While Meg played the drums and sang 1 song (Meg is awesome by the way!) Jack ripped with his guitar while also playing the organ and singing. I wouldn't believe one person could do all that if I hadn't seen it myself. If that isn't being a talent, I don't know what is.
My son did a rendition of this on Tuba for his middle school band concert solo.
I've been thinking there is the part:

'every single WORM got a story to tell'
A thank you to the Italian football fans that made this song so popular worldwide

Thanks for the share, and I think it's pretty cool how he used the FX to "make" a new instrument....I'm a fan...call it an 8 (though the Ben L'oncle version of this tune is a 9 to me) - Long Live RP and musical creativity!!

That's funny because there is no base guitar on the song. There is no base player in the White Stripes and Jack White doesn't play the base guitar anywhere on this album. It's an illusion!! Or whatever you would call an illusion of the ear.

I truly believe what you a saying is a closed minded statement! while guitar playing is important the over all style of the song is important as well. this song for example is not about guitar, it's about the drive of the song. If Jack White were to break out in some kind of Page like guitar solo it would not fit in this song.  Not all music has to have the long drawn out over played guitar riffs ,Which at times quite frankly annoys me. Perhaps new music now a days isn't as guitar driven as it use to be. You truly are closing yourself off to some wonderful music!!
I was having a dream about this song this morning as I struggled to go back to sleep for one more hour before getting out of bed.  Very tedious. Like a Chantax dream.

Always a fun song!{#Bananajam}
Back in the '90s, Jack White played drums in Goober and the Peas, a little-known cowpunk band from Detroit. The band was known for its dark, offbeat sense of humor.

My favorite tune is Hot Women (Cold Beer):

I love hot hot women
And I love cold beer
I like hot hot women and cold cold beer
I love red hot women and ice cold beer
Yeeoh!

Gotta love a song with lyrics like that!

I don't know the White Stripes much, but if this track is anything to go by the guitarist is only average and no way up there with the greats.

The riff gets played to death by a wide range of recorded instruments and voices at sports arenas and stadia all over the United States.

That is absolutely no justification for giving a low rating to the original and wonderous version of this rock and roll classic.
