How come I end up where I went wrong?
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
You reel me out, then you cut the string
How come I end up where I started?
How come I end up where I went wrong?
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
First you reel me out and then you cut the string
You used to be alright
What happened?
Did the cat get your tongue?
Did your string come undone?
One by one
One by one
It comes to us all
It's as soft as your pillow
You used to be alright
What happened?
Et cetera, et cetera
Fads for whatever
15 steps, then a sheer drop
How come I end up where I started?
How come I end up where I went wrong?
Won't take my eyes off the ball again
You reel me out, then you cut the string
Not fond of this one at all. Don't particularly like Talking Heads, Houses in Motion much either.
But then I would be extremely disappointed if RP with its eclectic music mandate and historical range did NOT play lots of music by both these bands. The talent is obvious; the positive critical reception and enthusiastic following are well known.
And FWIW, I never use the PSD function. I want the DJ to play stuff that stretches me and that means the odd song that annoys me.
Lord knows, some of my favourite music irritates others, profoundly.
I completely agree with you up to the use of the PSD function. I love being turned on to new and different music, but I find (maybe due to my advancing age ;-) that when I hear a song I don´t care for, I don´t grow to like it when I hear it 5, 10 or especially 50 more times. Even music which I have loved for years starts to get moldy (to me) when I hear it every day. (i.e. you mentioned Talking Heads, and this comment thread is under Radiohead) I try not to make negative comments, partly because the world is already divided and contentious enough, but mostly because I realize that everyone´s tastes are different, and in the case of music, that´s perfectly cool. I *do* use the PSD, and unfortunately, much of the time it´s just due to repetition. I would LOVE it if RP would create an "autoskip" function for songs I rate as 1. Then individual listeners wouldn´t have to hear songs they don´t like, (or have heard too much), everyone else could enjoy them as they wish, there would be less negative commentary, etc. There is already a function where I can hear my favorites, but then I would miss out on some of the gems Billiam throws in. I want to hear everything except the songs I either don´t care for, or that I still actually like, but don´t want to start hating through endless repetition. It would be a win-win situation! Anyone who listens every day knows what I mean. There are many artists we hear every *day*! I would simply like to be able to temper some of the repetition. Thanks for listening to my mini-rant!
Bravo! I truly appreciate your comment. My faves tend to get a lot of grief. On the other hand when I hear tunes that aren't my cup O' tea, I prefer not to crap on other peoples taste. We're all here for the same thing and different things simultaneously. But it's great when someone, like you, can still post positivity and show respect for your fellow listeners.
Very well stated!!

Every song ain't for everyone, but I think most of come here for the unrivaled variety

I'd like to propose a new rule: Anyone rating any Dylan song higher than a 3 should be disallowed from complaining about anyone's voice. Can't have it both ways, mate. It's why you'll never see a sewer worker walking into someone's kitchen to say, "What's that awful smell?"
I heard a sewer worker say that just a few days ago - apparently he didn't like the smell of chicken korma.

There's never enough said. Period. Case closed.
You should also remember that your not liking it doesn't mean it's bad.
No, but the fact that it's bad causes me not to like it (and he's still whining).
Could be, but he's still whining ... remember kidz - just 'cos it's popular, doesn't mean it's good!

I'm a big Radiohead fan. But this song? Meh . . .
How do you know those 313 folks (presently 336 out of 525) were all "knowledgable(sic) and discerning music aficionados" and not at least partially comprised of some hoodwinked simpletons whose aesthetics are defined by popular opinion and/or the opinions of others? Anyhow, good tune.

And that's just the tip...of the iceburg ;) Chilling thought, I know..
Sure had me chair-dancing like a maniac at the computer... solid solid 9!
It may also be Quite Excellent.
Haters will hate, but its the ratings that (mostly) dictate the tunes played here by Bill. Apart from a few notable exceptions, songs that have a low rating are usually culled from playlists.
But how marvellous that this challenging and excellent piece is played here. Hurrah!

That's a funny joke.

Where I come from, this is what we call hitting below the belt. Allow other people their opinions. We don't need a Taliban mentality when it comes to matters of taste.
Everyone is always afforded their opinion, but RadioHead is one of the most influential and talented music groups of the past 20 years. They definitley have a sound that I can see some not being into, but I so love this band- they give me hope for music. Play on.......
I totally agree with you, but many people don't see it that way.

I am so with you... some people take me as illiterate but... I just cant' seem to understand what's so good about radiohead... I can count with the fingers of one hand the RH songs that I kind of tollerate and still have 3 or 4 fingers to spare!...
I guess there is no accounting for musical taste. Some have it, while some (like you) do not.
The mute function does not suffice here, the audio player must be stopped. Somehow the fact that a stream of data is still being assembled into its insidious ear-fouling analog, unheard but lurking below the thin membrane of a silicon junction, is just too disquieting for me.

Musically they are good and unique it is just York's voice that is terrible. I guess it could be worse, it could be autotuned.

Thank you greedy corporate assbags for blocking that link in the US. I hate American Idol, but I love Muse and I was in marching band in high school, so I was really interested in seeing it.
It isn't like they didn't make enough money off it the first time, and I highly doubt that you will ever see American Idol on DVD. At least I hope not, watching that show once is bad enough...
Hilarious & right on if you think about it! thanks for making me laugh!

Throwing Muses: Two Step
Faithless: One Step Too Far
Grateful Dead: Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo

I think you mean 5/4 time, and, having been in a marching band myself, it WOULD have been tricky to learn!!...well, march to anyway...
Ah yes, the marching band days. 4/4 was easy as most music is written in 4/4. 3/4 was a bit of a challenge.
Of course, I was a percussionist, so there is an argument that was frequently made that we didn't march at all, just walking around the field with heavy drums on.
I remember some sort of interview with the marching band about how hard this was to learn because it was in 4/4 time (if I have that correct). I thought that was kind of cool.

As if the studio version wasn't awesome enough, they were able to recreate this amazing song with just Johnny on guitar and a marching band.

7 at best for me, what's so special about this track?
Yes Stingray, you are viewing, so you stay very "best in photography" to make comments on this record. (Now, whenever you are angry with you girlfriend, hypothetical, you come here to release your frustration, hate to write in red ink, so there)
I wish all of you "MERRY CHRISTMAS",
wherever you are - whoever you wanna be!
Christmas is a sweet-naive tradition -
not a religious event!
I like it anyway!
Still - I hope Bill takes the chance
to rock the christmas-tree to pieces tonight!
"Happy Christmas

The "Three Wise Men" - Melchior, Balthasar + Caspar
are buried in a golden sarcophage in"our" dome, the famous
"Cologne dome" - the third highest church-building

A gothic building of extra-class!

It's useful to remind myself that the diversity of taste and opinion is what makes the RP community so interesting.
Can someone fill me in on the Lindsay Buckingham comment?
It was Lindsey Buckingham's idea for Fleetwood Mac to perform his song Tusk with the USC Marching Band, way back in 1979. . .
Can someone fill me in on the Lindsay Buckingham comment?
That's interesting; I don't think I've ever seen or heard any musician or band compared to Paul Auster. Not that your comparison is inaccurate — he's just kind of a unexpected person to bring up. I've barely heard any mention of Mr. Auster since the early 1990's.
Lindsay Buckingham is a friggin genius.
Hahaha, I checked...and YES, it was the USC Marching Band! Wow, I have to agree, I like this version better than the recorded, electronic version. Of course I love marching bands.

I was just thinking about the same thing. Another possibility is he heard it multiple times before it came on here and had already developed a well considered opinion.
It's more fun to just assume he is a tool, so I'm gonna go with that.
For consideration: read the string and ask yourself just who the "tool" is here.
A 1? Really, that's just knee jerk.

Not true, there are Radiohead songs I really like. It was more a reaction to the song itself, especially the way it begins.
Judging by the previous comments, I'm going to get crucified for this. Have mercy, just being honest...

One of my favorites from In Rainbows. . .
